I guess we'll see what Eon announces. It wouldn't be in my own top ten (or twenty!) preferences for a title...but it's not a huge deal for me in the grand scheme of things---rather, I'd merely see it as a surprising failure of imagination from the Current Bond Regime...
If 13 years of Roger Moore (!) can't put me off Bond, a mediocre title certainly won't, either Might as well call the third picture in the arc "James Bond Triumphs Again" 8-)

I guess I'd have to see the title on a poster. Maybe it's a title that has "007" in it, along the lines of No Deals, Mr. Bond, which I know some people hated, but I liked. On the other hand, 007 can't be any worse than basically nonsensical titles like Tomorrow Never Dies or Die Another Day.
I'm going to agree with Loeffelholz that it's pretty unimaginative, but I do kind of like the title, and I think it'd fit if they used it. It works on a poster, I think.
Of course, anything's possible---which means that 007 MIGHT be the title of Bond 22---but I'll be surprised if it is. Like 'Shooter, I'm of two minds: On one level, it seems very cool...but on the other hand, it strikes me as rather pedestrian; a sign of surrender by Eon, even. It's a recognizable brand name, sure, but I'd have to lump it in with Licence To Kill as one of the least inspired titles of the franchise if it comes to fruition.
This issue brings me full circle to the whole issue of Bond titles. As I've said previously, it must be quite daunting to be clever without being trite. But then what do I know? I actually kind of liked Die Another Day as a title ;%
Agree with everything you say (including the DAD thing; I'd probably be pretty pleased with myself if I came up with that!). I don't think 007 is the title, but it's fun thinking about it hypothetically. I don't think I'd mind too much.
Does anyone think that the guys at EON read our forums? If so, please will they give us the best Christmas present of all and release the title next week? LOL.
I love the "mock up" for 007, but that tagline name.....number is now overused.

Nice work on the poster! But with the bland title it only looks like a teaser poster. I wouldn't be surprised if the movie was in theaters and passerbys would say 'That looks cool, can't wait until it comes out in the theaters' and then walk on by.
Every James Bond poster has had the '007' logo on it and a title, which makes this one look like it's missing the title. Like Loeffs said, this title has all the imagination of 'Licence to Kill' (not my favorite title). It seems silly to use an uninteresting title when Fleming has some that are crying out to be used.
I wasn't having a go about EON reading the ajb007 forum. I sincerely hope they do. I also hope they release the title in the next few weeks. I mean, why be so secretive? If they know the title then why don't they just tell us? ?:)
I agree about the 007 logo being on every poster, so have decided thet 007 is not a good title. What we need is a gritty, meaningful title, which Fleming used to great effect; one that can only be associated with Bond and nobody else. GF, YOLT, LALD, CR etc are all instantly recognisable as Bond titles. Even TWINE, TND and DAD are all unambiguous. What we need is another Fleming-esque title that just oozes Bondianism.
I still think that a chapter title would be a great idea [not mine], but as Danny said on Jonathan Ross, it's not going to go back to Fleming.
I mean, why be so secretive? If they know the title then why don't they just tell us? ?:)
Could be so no other film can be rushed out with a similar title to muddy the waters, also after a year the title can become a bit boring and 'last year'. Like, 'wasn't that the film that came out last year? Or was that just the announcement?' when the film opens in Nov 2008.
If they know the title then why don't they just tell us? ?:)
I expect that they don't know the title. I'm sure there are favourites and possibly one distinct favouite, but it might not be entirely agreed upon etc. just yet. Think of Tomorrow Never Lies/Dies- there's plenty of tinkering and presumably loads of to-ing and fro-ing whilst everybody and his mum in Eon and Sony agrees on what to call it.
Oh yes, I agree with you emtiem. I guess the committees have to meet and agree and tinker and argue and so on! Back in the day, Cubby would just have said a title and that was that!
That being said, Danny seemed sure [on Jon Ross]that there was a title. I bet that someone lets it slip before EON and Sony make an oficial announcement though. )
While I do agree that they could come up with something more imaginative and effective than 007, I don't think grabbing a Fleming title out of a hat is a good idea. That's what they used to do, and then they'd have to make the story fit the title, and we've ended up with some terrible Bond movies because of it. If an old title jumps out at the producers after the screenplay is done, and it works, by all means use it. But don't pick one just because it's Bondian-sounding and hasn't been taken yet...

To be fair, all of the titles Cubby used had already been thought up by Mr Fleming! And the one time there wasn't, there was plenty of faffing about as to 'Licence Revoked'/'Licence To Kill'...

Yeah...no doubt it was easier when there were still six or eight Fleming titles out there to choose from...I'm reminded of Craig on Jonathan Ross, saying that the new title didn't 'hearken back to Fleming'...
I do hope they don't just drop back and punt on this one.

I've been clearing through some of my books and I found my copy of 'Casino Royale.' Chapter 3 is entitled Number 007. Given that Craig's first film was CR, there might be some credence to the rumours that the film is indeed called Number 007.
I kind of thought that Property of A Lady was a very good title because it suggests a continuation of Vespers story. But as it is, i could probably live with 007 as a title. I liked the way the motif was used in the opening credits for Never Say Never Again. I am actually a little surprised it hasn't been used before.
I'm guessing it's a tribute to the brilliant Kentucky Fried Movie, in which George Lazenby gave a fine performance as The Architect. Am I right KFS? Or alternatively, am I wrong?

Hopefully, this is just a working title, something for the cast and crew to refer to the movie with during the shoot, while the real title is still being worked out. It's just too unimaginative to be the real thing, IMO.
If they must have the number 007 in the title, then they should try to build a catchy phrase around it.
Its hard to tell, before CR I never would have said that theyd make a movie called 007, but nowadays - who knows?
Personally I wouldnt mind seeing 007 as a title. However, I would mind seeing a movie with a title like Die Another Day or Tomorrow never dies. Let's face it, they were pretty simple titles. None of them were as inspired as something like You Only live Twice or The Spy who Loved Me.
The thing I hate is that I bet we get another really cringe worthy title, something that seems better suited to a Bond parody rather than a Bond movie.

You know what? I think that maybe we should have a bit more faith (not speaking to the anti-Craigers) that Eon will give us a good title. If they had the capacity to realize how crappy DAD was and completely revamp the whole thing, then I think that they will also have the capacity to not give us a lame title like 007. I think good old Danny is just pulling the press's leg like we know he loves to do and I personally don't think he even knows the title yet. The actors are usually the last ones to find it out, and with a good 11 months till the film's release, I doubt he has a clue to what it will be called. Besides, even if the title is crappy, it won't stop me from seeing it. Like Loeff said, even Babe Ruth struck out now and then. So relax everyone, it ain't that serious!
Calling it that may
And people just go to the theater and say: one ticket for 007, please.
LoL I what are you talking about, the last 5 films in theatre tat is exactly what I have done. "One for 9:15 showing of 007" :P I just assumed they would know what I mean and have never been questioned on it.

That's my bet.
