Okay maybe not a James Bond film but definitely Bond related.

What does everyone think of the Austin Powers fims?

I have just finished watching them all again on DVD.

Personally, I really enjoy them and love all the Bond related jokes e.g Dr Evils henchman being called Random task rather than Oddjob, who instead of throwing his hat - throws his shoe at you :)) .

My Favourite in order would be

1. Austin Powers (2) - The Spy Who Shagged Me
2. Austin Powers (1) - International Man Of Mystery
3. Austin Powers (3) - Goldmember

My 13-year old son recently began watching the Bond films in sequence (and more so during the Christmas break), and he asked me why Bond always has something clever to say after killing someone. I then told him that was the point why Austin Powers did that, as well as why Scott Evil goads his dad about not killing Austin Powers right away, and so on. Thinking that the Austin Powers movies were just straight forward comedies and not realizing that layers of rich Bond references actually existed, he now wants to rewatch those as well!

I absolutely love Austin Powers. The first one will always be the best, but the second was quite good too. Goldmember was awful, I think. However, the first two are just amazing.

I love Austin Powers, its absolutely hilarious. -{ My favorite is The Spy Who Shagged Me with International Man of Mystery at a close second. I've never been that fond of Goldmember though. They bring in too many celebrities and do a bunch of the same old stuff and it got boring real quick.

BTW, I read somewhere that they are considering making a 4th film. Has anyone else heard about that?

I haven't heard that, hope it is true :)

Just looked it up and you are right Austin Powers 4 is due out for the 14th of November 2008.
It will be more from Dr Evil's point of view this time around apparently

My feelings exactly. The second film, then the first, with the third trailing along for the reasons you mention- with the exception of Michael Caine who keeps the third film afloat.

I love Austin Powers too - brilliant trilogy. I wonder if they're making a 4th? My favourite I think is Goldmember, followed by The Spy Who Shagged Me. They're great fun, and I'd much rather watch those than the '67 spoof CR to be honest.

For some reason I fell asleep everytime I went to see these at the pictures. I don't think I'll be seeing the 4th. I'd rather wet myself at the daftness of Casino Royal spoof.

Just a rumour and not much in the way of news, but somehow AP 4 is moving forward and Gisele Bundchen (sp?) has been asked to sign as the female lead.

Anyway, I am not sure if I'd like a 4th film. It could turn really good, or atrocious, but like most recent Mike Myers vehicles, I'd bet on the latter happening.

(I wanted to make a new thread for AP4, but wasn't sure if it would warrant one. Btw, how about moving this thread to the off topic folder?)

In my honest opinion Austin Powers 1 is good , the orly thing that makes the second one good is fat bast*** and the 3rd one goldmember is 110% waste of electricity again only a few laughs nouthing you havent seen before,,

My main beef with austin powers is that 80 / 90 % of it is recycled comedy from other films and spoofs.... mainly copys the 1967 casino royale which is genuinely funny... legendary NIVEN AND SELLERS and how hot does usdula look. anyway thats my main thing with austin powers

you wanna see what i think is one of the best bits of bond spoofing comedy ever from one of my favorite spoof movies spy hard the total parody of the thunderballtitles seequence watch out for the poodle dog and the fat bond girls swimming LOL

I am with SGG, I think the original CR'67 spoof was pretty clever, and way better than it's reputation. If you don't like the film you can always just listen to the great soudtrack!

Austin Powers is pretty good too... although he gets too "randy" and OTT with the potty humour - but that's just the norm these days.

The first Power's film was the best, the second still pretty good, the third - not so good.

I disagree with both SGG and 7289. While I agree that the first film is the best, I think that the third film was the second best and the second film was by far the worst. I hated the second film (Fat Bast*** is in fact a major reason for my hatred of it), but I thought that the third film had come pretty close at times to capturing some of the brilliance of the first film. The first film BTW is IMO an absolute classic. I really loved it. :D

Sort of liked the first one, but I prefer it on video. I don't think the director knows how to give a film momentum, it works better as a series of sketches. A bit like Ferris Bueller, not great first time in the cinema (it takes a long while to get going and the sun never comes out on his day off) but so many classic scenes it's great to tune into when it's on.

Second seemed like a big budget rehash of the first, third it seemed like MM was having some kind of breakdown regarding his Dad or something, especially at the finale with Evil and Powers watching the film of themselves at the cinema.

The only Austin power's movie i like and find funny is TSWSM, the rest IMO sucked.

I'm with Dan Same in my ranking of the Powers films. While I enjoy all of them, I like IMOM most of all, as it just seems more fresh. GM, although a rehash I think it is well done, and of course TSWSM, another very funny film but one of them has to come last! ;)
