CR Jacket color and reviews of Magnoli's repro?

Hey all.

I saw that Magnoli's repros of Craig's jacket seem to be brown, but watching Casino Royale tonight, it seems to be black. Also, considering the purchase of one of these – anyone have one?

Email me at dzaritsky@msn.com for a special article on Indy's company and this very jacket!

I'd be interested in this jacket too, although it seems like there's some things that should be modified (pockets should be a little higher I think). Mantis do you know if there are any plans for the jacket design to be improved upon?

I agree, something seems to be just off with this jacket. It is close but more investigation is needed and corrective action taken.

I think the jacket looks pretty good apart from the colour. The brown seems far to light. Or is it just me?

I think I'm sold on Magnoli's jacket, and will place my order pretty soon.

I had reservations about the color, but after speaking with a few people including Magnoli, it seems clear that some of the pictures are deceiving based on lighting, and that the jacket is a dark brown lambskin just as the screen used version. You can see some of Mantis's pictures of the jacket vary in coloring but in the ones with mild (or no) flash it comes out almost black.

Magnoli also told me he was able to take measurements from an authentic copy of the jacket, so at this point I have no reason to doubt this is the closest we will ever come to having a copy of it.

Filmjackets.com has good pics of it within their forums. I had the same concern about Magnoli's jacket. Knowing him to be a class act, I wrote him expressing my concerns. He indicated it was color referenced from an original Armani. I took him at his word that he was right – and later I find the pics at Fj.com. Of course, he was correct all along.

One of these days I'm going to learn to trust him and not monitors. ;) BTW, the jacket in his photos is not quite accurate, but from David Zaritsky's photos (and info from Magnoli himself), these flaws are corrected on the newest jacket.

I would rest assured that the details are correct – but I'll let you know my full opinion if I wrangle a jacket from him.

The material must cost about the same too, based on the pricing... Magnoli's is $385, and Armani charged Hemming 400 euros per jacket, which in late '05 would've converted to about $430 or so (certainly not today lol). I'm not sure one would want to pay significantly less and still feel they are getting a credible copy of the original.

I've seen the pics on Mathis' site and it does look pretty good. Colour is much better.

Does anyone know about sizing? Does Magnoli make them to any size?
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
    It is made-to-measure, yes.

The one Indy has pictured on his site was his first attempt...we made significant modifications and it is CORRECT!

He really should change it then... it kept me on the fence for a long time lol! :)

Not only did I tell him that but I sent him SEVERAL good pics...

    Mantis,
Out of curiosity, what were some of the jacket tweaks you and Magnoli had worked on? Like some of the others in this thread, I could tell something was 'off' in the prototype pictures but couldn't quite place what it was.

If I can presume to answer at least a couple –

The pockets were not close enough to the bottom of the jacket. The top pockets were too wide, and needed to be made smaller. Other than this, I can't see too much.

Looks like Magnoli heard us loud and clear - he just changed the picture lol :)

Just wanted to check in and say that my Royale leather jacket from Magnoli arrived, and I'm really happy with how it turned out. The leather is high quality and buttery soft. Its dark brown just like the screen original... my bathroom has two lights and depending on which one I switch on it will appear dark brown or black like in the airport scene.

The fit was also great. I took measurements from a close fitting Banana Republic jacket I had, though I shortened the overall length of the jacket measurement when I submitted it to Magnoli so that it would fall just below the waistline as the original did.

Anyways, all in all I highly recommend to anyone seriously considering it. Considering it's less than 1/10th the cost of the original but looks damn near spot on as good, I feel it's well worth it.

Good news. Looks like a price drop too. $385
  • urhashurhash USPosts: 986MI6 Agent
    Wasn't it always $385?

I don't have one of me wearing it yet, but here's a nice comparison shot between the real one (up top), and mine on the bottom. Sorry for the quality on mine... can't seem to find my digital camera at the moment.

The pic of the original came from the filmjackets forum... I believe it's sruzgar's.

I just made one of these to the same size as my mannequin, so I've updated the pictures on my site:

This particular jacket is now for sale in my "Overstock" section at a reduced price. So, if you're about a 38R, you can pick this one up for a bargain:

Thanks again to everyone who has helped out with this great jacket!

    Kind regards,
    Magnoli

The new pics on the site really do it justice! The earlier pics were cause for some concern among people about color, but these new pics are just like the version I received and it looked dead-on with the screen version to my eye.

    Magnoli,

It will be kind of cool if you had a power buy or something like that.. I bet many of us will jump in to get a jacket...

Let us know how yours turns out! Did you ask for any customizations?

Other then my measurements no. I expect it to be like it is shown on screen in CR. But I am a little worried about custom orders as I hope I did not make any measuring mistakes. So until I get it and try it on, I will be worried but excited at the same time.

    Any custom recommendations/suggestions??

I only made two to mine... one was to have it made label-less, the other was an adjustment of the measurement I provided such that the length of the jacket fell to just above the beltline.

I think you'll be very happy with your purchase, as long as your measurements were correct. It fits great! :)
