Trinian's star 'is new Bond girl'

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7174490.stm

St Trinian's star Gemma Arterton has been cast as a Bond girl in the latest 007 film, according to industry paper The Hollywood Reporter.

The 21-year-old actress will play a character called Fields in the movie, which has the working title of Bond 22.

No other details were available, but a representative for the film's producer, Danjaq Productions, told the paper it was "a nice-sized role".

Filming has already started and the movie is due for release in November.

Arterton was most recently seen starring opposite Rupert Everett as an unruly pupil in a revival of the 1950s boarding school films.

Her casting continues the tradition of Bond producers choosing less established actresses for the coveted part, including Ursula Andress in Dr No, Jane Seymour in Live and Let Die and Eva Green in Casino Royale.

The Kent-born actress joins Daniel Craig, who will be playing the role of 007 for a second time.

It is thought the new film will take up where Casino Royale left off and will be loosely based on the Ian Fleming short story Risico, where Bond is dispatched to infiltrate a drug ring flooding Britain with heroin.

Producers last week confirmed French actor Mathieu Amalric will join the cast to play Bond's main adversary.

I think Arterton's agent finally confirmed it a couple of days ago. Empire reported it as being official as well.

is the mention of "Bond is dispatched to infiltrate a drug ring flooding Britain with heroin. " official or just the BBC reciting the events of Risico?

A 'nice-sized role' sounds like something that will be very brief after Marc Forster edits the film down to the alleged 120 minute limit. With a name like Fields could it be a type of Moneypenny role, perhaps?

How about Moneypenney's younger sister, Miss Papermoney?

She sort of looks like Vesper, which is OK by me, 'cause I like Eva Green. Maybe she reminds him of his late love.

At which point he would probably become very distant with her...

I saw Arterton in St Trinian's. Nice bit of posh. She's the head girl, with attitude. I thought she was the best thing in the film. Admittedly, the film is awful, so there's not much competition. I suspect Eon will cast her in a similar type of role. That is as a bossy, head-girl type, who's actually a wildcat once you get to know her.

    I can imagine... :x :v :D

That's why I'd imagined her as the 'office' girl, a saucy sparring partner for Bond. Such a girl would have made a perfect foil for (and secretary to) the '00' Section...straight-laced exterior, the various Double-Ohs in competition to see who will 'get to' her first.

I'm slightly disappointed that she appears to be just another junior MI6 operative...but hopefully they'll do something fresh with her ;)

So she's our replacement for Moneypenny?

I don't think so...she's being referred to as 'MI6 Operative Fields' in one of the articles...which strikes me as a kind of Mary Goodnight, given her youth :# I hope I'm wrong about that...

Can we take bets on what Agent Fields first name is? I do hope it's not Strawberry. Will this see a return to Roger Moore-style double entendres? I can think of one or two things you could say about a girl called Fields. But they'd get me slapped.

    Lou Fields.

You need to think about it.

I would hope that if another character in the mold of Moneypenny should be introduced, they would call her "Moneypenny."

I'll never forgive the dunce behind "Villiers." Let's just say I'm glad he's not coming back. :v

If Arterton turns out to be another Moneypenny prototype under a different name, I'll be livid! X-(

Moneypenny was never an MI6 agent or operative or whatever they're calling the Fields character. She was a secretary. Fields sounds more like how Mary Goodnight was used in TMWTGG, at least after a one-sentence tag. ;)

I think they're keeping M running solo so Dench gets more screen time. JMHO.

Do you think Babs and Mickey asked for a copy of St Trinians, and then basically invited the entire cast to audition? "Hmmm... it's full of young nubile English girls... what could possibly be of interest to James Bond there?"

Dunno about Babs, but I'm sure Mickey would have been up for it. :)) Arterton proves herself pretty handy with a hockey stick in St Trinian's. I demand a scene in Bond 22 in which she beats up a couple of goons with one of those.
