Fake Bond Phone On Ebay

Just a warning...there is a TND Phone up for auction that is a replica being auctioned off as legit...the seller sent me excellent pictures and from them I wrote her back this letter:

That is, unfortunately, what I thought. I am afraid you have a replica and not a screen used piece...this replica was made by a fan (I have owned a screen used one as well as this replica and there are major differences.) I have included some pics of the screen used one but please feel free to visit my web page to see that I know something about this subject. Finally, I can get you in touch with the gent that makes these replicas for final proof.

Yes David I spotted the phone a few days ago. But I didnt see it as my place to correct the seller. But I am glad you did. Some poor Bond fan might have ended up paying over theodds for a replica.

Also Who is your friend who makes these replicas and can you get me one ?

    thanks

He is revamping his mold and should be coming out with them again shortly...it has been MANY years since he has made them...he is the same gent that now makes the spectacular Goldeneye Piton Gun!

I remember a company called Retro-props selling those phones along with other replicas from Bond and other movies a while ago. That wouldn't happen to be your friend, would it David? Let me know when your friend starts selling the phone as I didn't take the opportunity to buy it back then and am extremely interested in it now.

I guess, as always, it's "caveat emptor" on Ebay. I think Mantis did a good job of handling it diplomatically. I haven't bought a lot of Bond stuff on Ebay but I have a story to share from about 2 years ago...A seller from the UK was selling what he claimed to be the carved elephant that the young boy was trying to peddle to Boond in The Man With the Golden Gun. At first blush it looked like it was definitely the screen seen piece that it was purported to be and I therefore entered into the bidding for the item. However, my scepticism got the best of me and I cued up my DVD of that movie to compare to the listing. Long story short...There wasn't a snowball's chance in Hades that the listed item was the genuine article. I retracted my bids (one of the few times I have done so) and someone wound up getting that elephant believing it to be THE elephant. If it was real the I am a :(|)'s uncle. Too bad...I think that scene was a truly memorable Bond moment that was quite funny. I was looking forward to that being quite the conversation piece at my humbe abode.
