I'm up for that. If you want to work on the handguns and holsters used in the films we could do that together, between us we should have all areas covered.
Thanks for the nice words. I really enjoyed doing the article, and the good reviews have been encouraging.
I am indeed working up a couple of projects including a review of the gunfighting in the books and weaponry of the villians, not sure how quickly they will be finished. Someday I hope to run all of this together into a coffee table book version with lots of big colour pictures!
I think ASP9mm should take on the continuation novels ... I haven't read all of them and the last couple I did read ... well it was a long time aqo!
Movie weapons would be a pretty big challenge, as you would have too include attache cases, wrist darts, watch bombs and mini helicopters! I don't know if I am up for that one!!!
Thanks Again!
7289,
I'm glad you have something in the works. Believe me, I understand how long it takes to write these things. I started the follow up to the Bond Submariner, but I like to be thorough and not rush things. Time is also a big factor for me as well, although I promissed myself that I would crank out a little more this weekend. I am indeed looking forward to the gunfighting in the novels and weapons of the villains. Your initial article made me nostalgic for the literary Bond.
I'm quite sure Asp9mm can come up with the goods. I would probably break the movie guns article into sections like "The Handguns and Longarms of Bond - Connery through Lazenby", or something like that. Then do a follow up about Roger Moore's guns and so on. This is great stuff, I can't wait.

So, what sharp little eyes you've got...wait till you get to my teeth.
"People sleep peacefully in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." Richard Grenier after George Orwell, Washington Times 1993.
Agreed, Ian Fleming himself - the master of small details would be the first to agree that accurate research is essential.
This is especially true with James Bond because - as in the case of his firearms- so much piffle has been written by "experts" who don't know a Beretta from a Bazooka!
The joy of this forum is that we have in our ranks alot of people who do care about "getting it right"!
So I'd be happy to work with ASP9mm on the "Movie Guns" - as long as you contribute a chapter on your shoulder holsters!
I've already got the book's title, and a couple of open folders .........

In case you missed the MC section, I have come up with a list of the Bond used or touched firearms for the films. Quite a nightmare, but the novels should be easier.

That was a fantastic article, it is nice to know I'm not alone in obsessing about these things.
I've cataloged all of the smallarms and a few of the gadgets of the EON films James Bond series. I would estimate the project to be 95% complete. I have screen caps of every weapon in each film, in order. It was posted as a massive article on another (gun centered) forum.
I've messaged SiCo for permission to post it here. Just waiting for the green light. I think you guys would really like it and be able to help complete the project as there are still a few guns I can't ID.

If only we could get articles like this posted on the rather forgotten AJB Main Page at some point. I won't hold my breath.

I have the continuation article I worked on a few years back covering the Gardner era and Benson too. I have set up an area on my ASP9mm website, but never got around to polishing it and finishing it. I'll do that very soon and post it here too. It will cover Carte Blanche too.

It was given to me as a gift by a retired CIA Agent, a nice fellow from Texas missing an arm ....
Nah! Really I have to confess I did it myself, though the faux silencer has gone through a lot of modifaction to get the final size and shape.
The poor Beretta, once "Bonded" up is not much of a pistol. Alot of keyholing at five or six feet and last time I shot it into a wood block the bullet bearly buried itself in the wood. Though it remains an excellent choice for "fictional" spies and villians.
Thanks, LLWIII
From rereading the novels over the years and studying historical espionage work during WWII and the Cold War, I got the impression that at the beginning of Bond's tenure as a 00, his Beretta was his own personal gun that he acquired during the war and was really only a sort of weapon of last resort, since the main focus of his missions was purely spying and
gathering intel on foreign threats as opposed to eliminating them - that the "Licence to Kill" was only a sanction to assassinate if it was required - in which case (as in Bond sniping at Rockefeller Center to earn his 00) he would not use his Beretta obviously. During the novels up to Dr. No when he's given the Walther, there are obviously instances when a better pistol would have been more to his advantage (which is why he kept the larger pistol in his Bentley), but given the undercover nature of his work and that for some reason he had a personal attachment to the Beretta, I understand why he liked carrying it. It was easier to conceal than larger calibre pistols and as I understand it, smaller pistols were more favorable to supressing (such as the .22) which is why professional killers such as some in the Mafia would use them. Also, Bond would sometimes where steel capped shoes (LALD) and a throwing knife strapped to his wrist as additional backups (I WISH they would show him equipped with these in a future film). This to me always came across as more in line with what spies used during WWII as opposed to how people expect agents are armed today - and much of that expectation comes more from films than from real life.

I like the literary Bond's use of the Beretta because it springs from the imagination of Commander Fleming, who was deeply involved in the real espionage of WW2. Arguably ineffective and "goofy" the Beretta as written up is a very "personal" firearm, and is much a part of the Bond character as his Bentley, Battered Ronson and Morelands cigarettes.
I think those who argue for Bond having a more "deadly" weapon (Boothroyd included) often overlook the fact that oo7 is a fictional spy.
