My project which I and my grandfather invisioned when i first started this topic.. is now back on.. and progressing very nicely indeed
I am developing my own metal golden gun and My grandfather is making his own from brass as far as I know...
all I can say at the moment.. is that both guns are of our own design .. and study of the originals... No SD or other replicas have been reffered to at all ..
both Golden Guns.. will be of a different design .. we are making these separately...
both guns will feature woking lighters and bullet chambers... both guns will feature real writing fountain pen / gun barrels... wearable cufflink triggers and the handle will store cigarettes like the original did.... this is going to be one of the most functional replica props ever made... will be finished .. this year some time and both Gold Plated etc etc .....
and both guns will fire a loud flash bang ! in the barrel when the trigger is pulled.
so all the functions that EON achevied with 3 separate Guns.. we are making happen in one .
I would only have to worry about the laws if I was selling this as a product .. these 2 guns are for my own personal collection for the time being.. but if there is an interest in them.. they may be made available... But both Myself and My grandfather agreed.. these will only be made to commission under certain .. circumstances and conditions...
as I say .. I am looking forward to unvailing the guns to you .. its looking very good so far

ok, i'm not sure what you intend to use for this 'loud flash bang'.
regardless of whether you intend to sell this item or not, it is illegal (to the best of my knowledge) to produce an article that will chamber even a blank round.
if you intend on making your own caps, its also illegal to produce your own black powder. black powder will also give an unrealistic effect, but regardless, its still illegal to make it.
although a gun is in alot of cases, a simple device to design and build, it dows need to be made out of the right materials and pressure tested in a safe house. i'm not sure about blank firers, but i do know that de-activated weapons need a certificate declaring them safe, and that certificate is provided by the proof house at birmingham, uk.
now i know your GG you intend on making isn't going to be sold, and it isn't classed as a de-act, but it certainly would raise eyebrows and i'm guessing it would come under the 'replica firearms' or 'blank firer' catagories. if it does, them i can assure you, it is most certainly worth checking with your local firearms licencing department within you local police force to make absolutely sure that you aren't breaking any rules.
i'm not concerned about you making any article here mick, i'm just looking out for your own safety and trying to offer some advise about legalities.
for instance, if you make a gun (even a blank firer) out of the wrong materials, in the wrong way, you could risk blowing you sodding hand off.
i even saw one case where a guy fired a browning, the top slide fractured and went through his skull, killing him instantly. i mention this, because even professionally made weapons sometimes go wrong, and when they do, its curtains.

Looks like every time he proposes something cool, he gets negative comments. Do you really think he will get in trouble with the law for making a cap gun, that even don't look like a real gun? I have never seen a real gun made out of gold. And firing a cap, will definitely not make this gun explode.
I must admit I am not familiar with the law in the UK, but this really sounds ridiculous. I even get the impression people are just jealous.

i've been in touch with mick for some time, and his work is excellent.
i don't have any problems with him making his own GG, i'm not jealous becasue if i had the time, i could make myself one anyways. 'jealousy', for me, has nothing to do with it.
the isssues i higlighted regarding uk gun law is important however.
since the handgun ban back in '96, uk gun law has become tighter and tighter, and with gun crime still on an increase, local authorities and national goverment are both treating guns extremely seruiously, as they should do.
in the uk, one man a few years back got shot outside a london pub by a firearms responce unit. the reason he did was because he was overheard in the pub, talking in a strong irish accent. he was carrying a table leg in a bin liner under his arm in the same manner as you would a shotgun, and because of the mis-information, he was shot dead.
when stuff like that happens in the uk, you have to be extremely careful what you do regarding guns.
now whether you class the GG as an imitation firearm or not, it has a barrel, is in the same configuration as a normal pistol and mick stated he intends to make it work with similar effect to that of a blank firer.
all i did was advise mick that he should seek advice from his local firearms licencing department regarding the legalities about his project, that way he can avoid any problems with the law. the law still applies whether he intends to sell it or not, so he should do his homework first.
mick - keep up the great work, your props that i've seen are amazing, and you should keep up your great hobby. be careful though and if you need any firearms advise, give me a call.

My Grandfathers the one you should be concerned about ) as he is a retired Engineer.. I was talking to him while he was making parts for it etc .. and he says things like .. '' in theory if we modified this spring here and here... and rifled the inside of the pen casing... we could make it fire a Golden Brass BB or fake bullet.. could be a REAL Working Golden Gun '' )
Dont worry his is going to fire caps aswell juts via a different mechanism from my model.
he just likes coming up with ideas and designs for mechanicles etc etc

Reading what you said about your grandfathers design, couldn't you theoretically turn this project into an airsoft version of the GG? I don't know the laws regarding this, not to mention creating an airsoft version of the GG might be relatively difficult because the gun would have to come apart and be put back together. I don't know if you could accomplish that with an airsoft gun; if you did, I think you'd be the first haha.
Not suggesting that you do actually do this, especially since you've already got the project planned out; just thought it might be something interesting to look into for future alterations or modifications to your existing GG; once it's built of course {[]

anything can be made to fire .22 rounds, its a bit of a lame conviction.
however, she was dealing drugs and if there was intent on making the GG fire .22 rounds, then hell, chop her hands off.

the way i read it mick was it was a replica that could have been made to fire live ammunition.
as the article didn't state what material the gun was made from, but the offence was for the possiblilty of it being converted, i'd assume (woah, careful) that the replica in question was made of some kind of metal, as its golden, i'd guess brass.
firing live ammo through a brass gun however is near suicidal.
i'm not sure if the replica was an SD replica, but again mick, this all highlights the fact that you really really need to make sure you're not breaking any laws instead of assuming you'll be ok.
I am not making a golden gun now thats it ... just threw all the parts in the bin )

i'm only guessing it was an SD prop. i'd also guess that had the person been a law abiding citizen and not a drug dealer, the offence of having a replica that could be converted wouldn't even have been considered, and whats more, the person wouldn't have had their house raided.

i'm not sure if the replica was an SD replica, but again mick, this all highlights the fact that you really really need to make sure you're not breaking any laws instead of assuming you'll be ok.

i'm only guessing it was an SD prop. i'd also guess that had the person been a law abiding citizen and not a drug dealer, the offence of having a replica that could be converted wouldn't even have been considered, and whats more, the person wouldn't have had their house raided.
