Who should play Q and Moneypenny?

It looks as though there will be no Q or Moneypenny in QoS, but there's always Daniel's third outing.

For Q - I would ditch John Cleese and go for say Richard Wilson.

For Moneypenny - Samantha Janus.

What do you think guys?

Noooo on both counts. We need some serious actors to take this on, no more comic interludes. Arming Bond should be serious. I'd be happy if we never saw Q again, that was Desmonds role. As for Moneypenny, a secretary is a bit outdated now, if M had a PA, I'd like to see someone quite plain and understated taking the role.

Definately - bring Victor Meldrew into a Bond film, lots of "I don't believe it" when Bond does something to irritate him. Sounds great don't you think?:))

:)) ...and someone on another thread suggested Patrick Stewart as M. Hmm... very enterprising ;). All we'd need then would be Marina Sirtis as Moneypenny and we could boldly go where no Bond has gone before.

I Think the Q character has to have some quirkiness(Not necessarily funny ha ha)just a guy who takes his work serious(I never joke about my work 007)but comes across with a quirky edge. We don't need an M actor as Q then everything would be the same and why bother. I think Jim Broadbent of Hot Fuzz, Longford, Moulin Rouge! fame would do. He also played MOTHER in The Avengers movie.
As for Moneypenny they need someone who can play the role more like an executive assistant type, whose attractive but can play serious. She can pine for BOND but it has to be subtle(Almost Latent.)which would require a good actress. My vote is for Sarah Alexander who played Susan Walker in the BBC comedy Coupling.
Dominic Greene - "James Bond 007, License to Kill... or be killed I believe No? An instrument of her Majesties Secret Service. You are...how you say the spy that never sleeps. Tell me Mr.Bond what exactly is your business with me?"

I like the notion of Hugh Laurie (sic?) as Q. He's got a sort of quirky irreverence that could work.

I may have mentioned this before, but I want Honeysuckle Weeks to play Moneypenny!
Here is Honeysuckle standing next to Bond's best friend in the service: http://www.thecolumnists.com/miller/miller253art1.jpg

And here is aclose-up of her:

If you have seen har in "Foyle's war" she moves and feels a lot like Lois Maxwell, while she doesn't look a lot like her. Just like Craig moves and feels like Connery, but doesn't look a lot like him.

I think Hugh Laurie shouldn't play Q, only because he allready plays a quirky scentific genius - House.

I really would not want to change the portrayal of Q or Moneypenny.....they should just be left as Desmond Llewelyn and Lois Maxwell.

John Cleese mucked it up......just too cheesy.

My choice for Q would be David Harewood who is an amazing black actor currently in "The Last Enemy" in BBC1. He was also in Blood Diamond with Leonardo Di Caprio.

I think that a cool youngish black actor would be a complete shock to most people. David could play a weapons expert with complete skill and confidence and be completely plausible. Perhaps Q could have a Special Forces background in the new films. David could do that with his eyes shut.

Thats what the new generation Bond needs. Someone who is confident cool and utterly convincing.

I also went to school with David and I have been following his career with interest. He would be a terrific "Q".

    As for Moneypenny . . . . h'mm?

The churlish side of me would love to see Jordan get the part!!

But lets be serious now shall we.

How about Keeley Hawes? She was amazing in [spooks] and is an absolute hoot in Ashes to Ashes.

I think that Keeley would be terrific as Moneypenny.

ho...never thought of that! Hugh could deff. do it, but the only concern I have is that too many people would go "WTF is House doing in a Bond movie???" Although Hugh is an amazingly versitile actor...:)

I've seen her in MI-5... so either this would be right up her alley or all too familiar, but either way I agree about her probably being a terrific Moneypenny.

    for Q - I would say Michael Gambon 110 %

and for Moneypenny - I would love Jamie lee curtis shes still a hotty just watch true lies come on. you know what I mean

And having her as money penny would be realistic.

my second choice for moneypenny would be - Keeley Hawes , the ashes to ashes and the banks job actress.. http://img.thesun.co.uk/multimedia/archive/00399/ashes_to_ashes_399496a.jpg

    Loeffelholz,

I think your suggestion of Hugh Laurie is absolutely brilliant. He wasn't on my radar because his American accent on "House" is so convincing I rarely think of him as British anymore. Laurie has a sardonic wit that would play very well off of Daniel Craig. Absolutely LOVE this idea. {[]

I'm still up in the air regarding Moneypenny.

Indeed. I think that Craig and Laurie would have great chemistry. And Laurie could do well as a more subdued Q. If the producers do bring the Q character back they will hopefully be going in a different direction away from the lame gags that the character has been resorting too recently. Reading this post made me flash back to that scene in CR where they are talking Craig through what to do after he's been poisoned and he needs to shock his heart. I can just see Hugh Laurie as Q in that scene talking Bond through what to do, ala Dr. House.

I sugested jamie lee curtis as she is one of those women i thought could have been a bond girl many years ago possibly timothy dalton era....

however she would be the hottest moneypenny ...

Michael Gambon would be an outstanding Q -- anyone familiar with him will know exactly what I mean.

she even looks good with bond

I disagree about Jamie Lee Curtis, although she is a fine actress, but, Gambon as Q is an outstanding idea! I always thought he would be a good 'M' but after thinking about it he would make the perfet 'Q' for Craig's Bond, The chemistry between the two would be terrific!

Gambon for Q in Bond 23!!

I dunno. I will say that I didnt miss seeing either of them in Casino Royale.

That said, we're not talking about Desmond or Lois here, we're talking about all new actors. If they were talking about dropping Desmond as Q, I'd be in an uproar. But with no one attatched to the role I dont think I'd be too sad if they stayed off for a bit longer.

Do you mean in terms of acting ability or physical height? Granted, Laurie is a few inches taller than Craig, but in terms of acting talent, Craig can hold his own.

no way to HL ... he is a fine actor and my fondest memory of him was Bloackadder goes fourth...

but we need a more serious actor learn from mistakes like Cleese in DAD ... although I did enjoy him as Q and he did a fine Job he just wasnt what Q should be now in my opinion we need seriousness to go with Daniel Craig .... and Michael Gambon is the man to do it

and saffron burrows as Moneypenny ... would put the cherry on the cake ..

Because John Cleese was much shorter than Pierce? :)

Why is there a problem with having characters taller than Bond? Jaws wouldn't have been very effective if fans had been running the series! :D

Personally I think that with the direction of Casino Royale, Villiers has been pegged to take Penny's role as M's assistant. It works well too, he seems like a character that reflects that not everyone in MI6 is destined to follow the kind of dangerous life that 007 leads.

As for Q? Well we all know Desmond Llewelyn was Q,AKA Major George Boothroyd. John Cleese's character is a classic too, but the Daniel Craig era is less about gadgetry, its about the drama of the characters. Q was and in many ways still is my favorite character from the Bond films. - Only superceeded by Craigs version of Bond. So personally I don't see that they need to introduce a new Q. Perhaps in time they could introduce a new boffin who does something similar to Q if and when there is a specific need, but that need is not there now.

If was casting those specific characters though?

    Sophia Myles as Moneypenny,
Kai Owen (Reece in Torchwood) as a young Q.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?

David Suchet as Q and Rosamund Pike as Moneypenny
(yes i know she was in Die Another Day but different Bond, and she wouldn't be the first to appear in more than one film as another character....Joe Don Baker, Charles Gray, and Maude Adams....)

    any opinions???

George? ?:) Where did that come from? We have NEVER been told Q's Christian name!! The only contender so far is Geoffrey (the real Boothroyd's name) but that's never been confirmed by either Fleming or the films.

I think rosamund pike as moneypenny is a fantastic idea shes fantastic and DAD didnt give her enough to work with and she did say shed love to be in a bond film with daniel craig....

david suchet as Q is very good also.

but I think Michael Gambon is the best actor to play Q...

another person I would say for moneypenny is

Keely Hawes from ashes to ashes on the bbc on of my favorite programs of recent times alongside its predecessor. and she was in spooks
