Aston DBS Solace - Gadgetry PROJECT

Hi there everyone .. as most of you know in this section I am a prop and replica collector and maker..

I have been given the great opportunity to design concept gadgets for the DBS in the new bond film qontum of solace...as part of a university design project

I will be making full scale models of what ever gadgets and designs I come up with.

I would love it if we could get a little brainstorming going here..similar to what everyone on the cast and crew did on 'Goldfinger'

I would love some suggestions as to what you would love to see in the aston in the next film ?

any suggestions would be great ..

I am leaning more towards in car gadgetry like Casino Royale.

I have some ideas like an collapsable assault rifle concealed within the passanger seat. and a gun and reconocance tray in the glove compartment ...

Please any help would be great ..

and who knows you sugestion may get made .. into a full scale working peice of Q branch gadgetry .

also any new guns or devices which the car could have?

this should be cool ..

If this topic generates interest I will post concept scetches and models for all to see.

Am I to understand that this is a request from the filmmakers themselves or is this a University project that you may or may not be submitting to the filmmakers in a somewhat unsolicited matter? Either way is fine, really. I think you do amazing work and that you SHOULD be working on the film itself. I'm just trying to understand for my own curiosity.

That being said, I think the collapsable rifle, or an HK UMP in the passenger seat is a great idea. But that should be the only actual "weapon" in the car. As far as I'm concerned every step towards turning the DBS into an armored assault vehicle is a step back to Die Another Day... and we don't want that, now do we? I think some practical surveillance equipment would be good. I've seen a device that picks up sounds in a room by pointing a laser at the exterior (windows, etc). Something like that, some infrared and starlight imagery. This would all feed to a laptop in the car, but be invisible on the exterior. Cool, but subtle. That's the kind of thing I'd like to see.

The weapons tray was enough, they could make a bigger one for the boot (trunk). I don't want to see anymore gadgetry in the DBS in QOS.

Apocrypha23 in answer to your question I am doing is purely for a university project.. but I will send off the scetches photos of models and plans to the film producers in hope it might be used in the film after 'Solace' And if I end up sending off the ideas to the producers I will give everyone credit who came up with the idea in the forum... If I do I will contact you individually for your name etc..

I do agree that the DBS should be weapons free and stear clear from the vanquish in DAD,

i also agree that it should have possibly a primary and secondary weapon inside the car for bond to take out and use. like he did his silenced p99 in casino royale.

I was thinking the car could contain a gun case which housed a rugger .22 long range target pistol alongside bonds p99 both pistols silenced.

survailance would be a good addition to the car as this has not really been done in a bond film its more killing weapons.

    keep the suggestions coming team.

    thanks

Apocrypha23 thanks again for the kind comments ... you will soon see many new bond props on my site including Dr No. hands. new golden gun and props I have been commisioned to make for others in a gallery ... so keep in touch thanks again.

the idea of blinding lights in the rear of the car seems neat for night time persuits.

similar to the aston the the goldfinger novel which rear lights changed colour to confuse enemy following cars thinking they were chasing the wrong car ..

All great ideas so far. Let's get back to some of the books, and other things that I have actually done on my cars. First, the blinding rear aircraft reverse light would ward off pursuers. Secondly, a disconnect switch which interrupts the ground to the tail lamps, rendering the rear lights blacked out to confuse pursing cars is one that I used to have on a rather modified Abarth sportscar. This new Bond does not want to push too many buttons, so let's leave the DBS almost as the first DBS, a purist's REAL delight. I think that the run flat tyres is a very practical defense mechanism. Leave the rest to Speed Racer, he is due out soon. I nominated my nephew's name to be either Nik Nak or Chim Chim. My sister was not amused. Keep up the great work, GG, and I hope to see you soon!

Are you from a naval family? Well, you see "bunt" means the swollen, or baggy part of the sail.

    Hello,

cool project and I would like to bring my "ideas"

First of all, I would think about using 2 tracks for the gadget car:

1st for the project alone, where the gadgets must be crazy and spectacular to ensure, that you are showing to the profs, what you are capable to do

2nd for the fans, who mostly agree on a low-profile, more down-to-earth gadgetry.

So for the second track, I would like to suggest a modification of the ejector seat: Your mission is to get unwanted passengers neutralized. This can be achieved thru setting the passenger seat under elecricity, or, to have a kind of taser gun function in the backrest. I also like the idea of the runflat tires.

For the first track you may consider a bullet proof front shield as well with any kind of armour, which can be switched out of the normal car. I too like the idea of switching the car plate with an LDC screen that illuminates in the night, when being hit by light from following cars.

Damned, I realize, that I am just transferring the ideas from the GF DB5, it seems, that they have thought about everything....

I wish i had a DBS LOL ! no I will mearly make some models to full scale which will work. of the best gadgets from the car however i am going to make a poster so to speak which will be illustrated and show were it will be on the car ... and I will give every one who had an input into the gadgets a copy of the poster.. ... or whos gadgets get developed.

posters will be printed using the universitys ink and poster paper of course ! LOL;)

I would have to agree with everyone and say make them plausable. No indicator rockets or stuff like that.

Hiding things in the car is a cool idea, love the rifel in the seat. Maybe you could do something with sat nav? A tracking system or such like. Most cars have them built in these days so that screen could be used for loads of things.

Sounds good, an update from the DB5 in goldfinger.

If you want to go a little silly I always thought that an off-road mode would make a bit of sense; have suspension that jacked itself up etc.

Another super-silly thing you could do is use the idea from the boat in Moonraker- have a section of it turn into a flying escape pod. I'd use the passenger compartment- have it release from the main chassis. You could fire a parachute from the roof so that it becomes a parascender- rather like the parahawks from TWINE. :)

When I was at design college there was a national competition to reinvent Bond's wheels. One of the winners came up with a design based on Bond's bespoke suits; a car with a holographic body car that could change its outward appearance (rather like the DB5 changes numberplates). Very blue sky, but there was some nice concept work in there.

is that not basicaly waht the vanquish did ... it didnt dissapear or vanish ... it projected images from one side..... you know the rest...

the project is on hold at the moment as i am doing other design work at the moment ... I have finished a 1:10 scale lotus sub... exact to derik meddings model. used on screen.

i am currently designing a range of childrens educational toys... for a design project... which should go into the university's design exhibition at the end of the year.

i will keep you all up to date with the dbs project

also the idea of the off road function was sugested to me by my father .... i agree a very good idea ,,, so your not the only one who whould like to see it...

it would make sence if it was done realisticaly ...

thanks for the sugestions.. i will up-load scetches soon.

    thanks to all again..

Well I think it was supposed to be able to turn into different cars. This was the year before DAD, anyway.

    o rite sorry i didnt understand ...
yea far fetched but cool idea....

someone in my uni class suggested colour changing paint that could change at the touch of a button inside the car. and the sheel could heat up and change the colour.

    something along those lines...
