Longest Opening Sequence

Google Alert (From Sunday Mirror)
The opening sequence of the new Bond movie will be the longest yet, stretching to 30 minutes before the credits appear.

Daniel Craig has spent three months filming a chase scene in Panama for Quantum Of Solace.

A Bond insider said: "It will be full-on action from the first second. Craig leaps from a Harrier jump jet into a speedboat and ends up in his Aston Martin. There is also a fight between helicopters.

"It is the big set-piece to rival the chase when Craig was up on the top of the crane in the last Bond movie."

Until now the longest pre-credit sequence of a Bond movie was 14 minutes in 1999's The World Is Not Enough.

Production of the movie, named after a short story by James Bond creator Ian Fleming, will now move to Chile.

Quantum Of Solace is due to be released on November 7.

Oh God no........... TWINE teaser should have ended after the bank scene, and I think many fans agree. How long is a teaser before it ceases to be a teaser? Thirty minutes is hardly what I would call a teaser. Isn't the film supposed to be 120 minutes? That would make the teaser 1/4 of the film! I think that part of the appeal of the teaser is to have that short opening sequence to whet our appetites for the rest of the film, leading into the titles. I can't imagine going into the titles 30 minutes into the film. If they're going to do that, why even bother having a teaser?

Ouch! I have to agree with you 100%. That seems like too much, unless it ties directly into the rest of the movie, I fear we are going to be left with less artsy and more fartsy. I enjoy action sequences but they don't replace story. If they want to spend that much time on acttion, extend it like the 144 minutes of Casino Royale.

If a British tabloid breaks a story about Bond, it's a LIE---at least, to me---until Eon confirms it. Period.

There really is no limit to how far these very remarkable organizations will go to misinform, disinform, fabricate and titillate. If they publish a story that our Earth's atmosphere is breathable, I'll have to go out and take a deep breath---and see if I die---before I confirm it :))

And don't even get me started about more important news subjects :s

Well, (a) no he hasn't and (b) no he hasn't. He's been in Panama for a couple of weeks filming scenes in a street in Panama that didn't involve a Harrier jump jet. So that's a load of boondocks in the second line, making me think that the rest of the piece may be just as reliable.

The more I think about this, the more ridiculous it becomes. We know for a fact that the film is picking up right after CR, presumably Bond capturing Mr. White and avoiding the bad guys. So how does he get from Mr. White's little residence to a Harrier jet in Panama in the span of an hour??? :s Methinks this would trump the mystery of how Bond suddenly has a new haircut since the end of the last film.

Remember when Bond said "they'll print anything these days?"

But what does it matter if the Sunday Mirror print a rubbish story like this - no one will sue them for printing this story. It will probably garner some attention that the paper might not have had. Why not publish it?

Watch out for spoilers on this scene though, folks, on mi6.com. I regret reading up on it, in particular how the scene ends... :(

Sunday Mirror was only a news in brief down side of the page, no biggie and not true.

I typically find that when a story sites "An Insider" as it's source one can just quit reading there. Real insiders are professionals and don't go leaking things to tabloids. That's why they are insiders, they can be trusted to do their jobs and be discreet about the filmmaking process.

One of the best things of CR was the short teaser,a wink to the first teasers of the Connery era.
A 30 minute teaser it´s a total downer for me. Please, no...They could repeat the last scene in CR, then cut to main titles when he says "Bond, James Bond". That should be it.

Considering the source I would take it with an extremely large pinch of salt. I wouldn't believe the Mirror if they said Daniel Craig eas playing James Bond.

I doubt this is true, but if it is I am not surprised because we all know how the traditions of the franchise are being thrown out these days.

I loved how the old films from back in the Connery and even Moore days had openings that were just for fun and had NOTHING to do with the film's main plot. Examples include Goldfinger, Thunderball, TSWLM, Octopussy, and of course For Your Eyes Only!

I liked TWINE's long opening. Even though ending it with the bank would have been alright I just think they knew that exciting fishing boat chase had to be in the opening. Think about how they could have followed that with something other than the credits and a song. It was so long and intense I think going straight to King's funeral would have been a little off. All of the credit sequences begin after a big climax and I think that bank escape just was not exciting enough. But that's just me.

I remember that most of the early reports concerning CR's opening free-running chase referred to it as the pre-title sequence, which, of course, it wasn't.

Perhaps its thanks to the Brozza films that the media assumes the first big action scene is inevitably the PTS, but I very much doubt that its the case here, especially after CR.

I agree with everything that has been said here, and more so.

Going back to the TWINE pre credit sequence, that was great but just a bit tooo long. I think EON learned from this, and that what we read in the Mirror was rubbish.

I think we'll have a short pre-title sequence, starting right after CR's ending. The first scene after the titles of QOS may well contain the caption...."THREE MONTHS LATER".

That would explain the longer hair! LOL.

I agree completely and that would be my theory as well. Longer hair, different watch. And a broody and obsessed 007.

I tend to believe that the writers of these articles for our tabloids don't even watch Bond films. in that article they say that it is an action sequence to rival that of the foot chase through madagascar in CR. That, although being the first big action sequence was after the opening credits. if there is any truth in this report and there might be a little I suppose it will be later on in the movie. If it is true that the sequence is set in Panama then it will most likely be mid way through the movie and not the first major action sequence.

I would be happy with just the ending of CR as the PTS of QoS...I don´t think that will happen though; it´ll probably begin there, but of course we don´t know what happens after he says "Bond, James Bond"; most likely he´ll have to escape, possibly in a boat, and he´ll be chased.
My dream beginning would be: Gunbarrel (with 60s flavour), short teaser, then main titles song (sung by Amy Winehouse).:)

That insane PTS sounds like a level out of nightfire or EON rather then an opening to one of Craig's Bonds

    Hang on a sec.

The original article implies the the PTS involves a chase through Panama?

    Have I got that right?

Everything that I have heard indicates that QOS takes up literally 2 minutes after the end of Casino Royale.

I'm confused but I'm pretty sure Mt White's lakeside home is nowhere near Panama.

I'm gonna wait for the film to come out before I make any judgments.

I think that right there proves the illegitimacy of the "source". We know for a fact that the film will begin right after CR ends. The producers, Craig, and Haggis have all said this.

Why are so many people going with sotries that Amy Winehouse is singing? So many singers have their names penciled in to sing the next movie. Need I remind you that Mariah Carey was touted for Die Another Day and Britney was rumoured for Casino Royale at different points.

Besides they havent even got a movie yet, let alone a title song.

We definitely need to see a return to the short, punchy pre-title sequences that don't last more than a few minutes. They are far more effective.

I´d say she´s in the list of the producers, and rightly so. She has the perfect voice for a great Bond song, plus she´s a talented songwriter with a 60s feel. Nothing has been confirmed, though.

Daniel Craig stated himself that QofS begins in film time 20 minutes after CR - note that is 'film' time and not 'real' time.
