I agree that Judi Dench has been a very great M. Dench's M has been the best of all maybe because she has been so real and "warm". I mean that she has had strong feelings and emotions...Robert Brown and Bernard Lee were too faceless actors...they just did their job and that's it. Brown was still better than Lee because he wasn't so negative person in movies :D Judi Dench has given face to M.

We have seen 5 M's appereances starring Judi Dench and I think too that it is enough. Of course we see one more at least but I certainly don't want more from her. Dench is great but I think that we have seen all she can give and she looks too old already (and I mean very...maybe LITTLE younger M could be a good change now).

That assassination idea could be a good idea but producers and director should think that very carefully. That idea demands very much talking, discussing and different ideas...They should think other options (maybe better ones) too

I hope that in Bond23 or Bond24 at least they will present totally new kind of M. Maybe a man even this woman, Dench has been the best for now...

    We see...

A good way to snuff her out would be with a simple road accident, a car crash or something innocuous. However, it occurs at a crucial moment when M is needed to corroborate Bond's testimony or next course of action; it could lead to a power vacuum.

I think something cinematic and deeply moving would be a tasteful way to say goodbye to Dame Judi's M. I'd like to see her choke to death on a fishfinger in Daniel Craig's last film.

Mmmmm...that would be tasteful (and cinematic!)...plus the added drama of a botched or failed Heimlich maneuver, whilst the team back at HQ looks at their monitors in stunned silence :o

Of course, if Craig sticks around too long, poor M will be old enough to have a nurse cutting her fish into bite-size portions :v

While that is true, in Fleming's books M is a very cold person who very rarely shows any sign of warmth. M cares about Bond to the extent of professional duty of care, that's it. To that extent, I believe Bernard Lee's portrayal of M is the closest to the M that is envisaged in Fleming's books. That's the M I want to see back in Bond movies - someone (a man!) who is older, with the face of a tired old British sailor.

Judi Dench's portrayal of M is almost like that of a mother. She is too caring, too soft. I don't believe Dench's M is realistic. You don't get to the position of head of MI6 by being soft. You need to be cold, calculating and ruthless. You need to be able to make the hard decisions, and order people out on missions from which they are not likely to return. Lee's M, like Fleming's M, had no problems doing that, while you get the impression that Dench's M would spend time mourning the loss of an agent before moving on.

I love the idea that this enlivens the series because it is something we assume won't happen, the main reason why every death threatening sequence for Bond is not as exciting as it could be. Because you know Bond's not gonna die.
Also, I don't like Judi Dench even if she has improved her performances of late, she's still a rubbish M. Plus, they should have characters like Tanner reacting to yhe news in disbelief.
But I think the idea of Bond killing her is crazy. They could maybe frame Bond and do a bit of a Fugitive-esque storyline.

What about al-qaeda capturing her and holding her for ransom/MI6's humiliation. She could get the full execution video treatment on the internet/Al Jazera TV. It will give us a break from Quantum, get us a new M and get Bond out to the mid-east. It could also lead to a full commando style raid (a topic of a recent thread - seeming popular with many AJB'ers) with Bond providing Intelligence/taking the helm when it goes wrong scenario.

As long as she ends up dead... :v And I don't think simply killing M necessitates another 'revenge' storyline. It should be taken care of within the same film.

Although I'm sure Eon will stay well away from any obvious (or reasonably implied) Arab terrorist threat. Rightly or wrongly, I think the producers fear that kind of heat. But if anyone ought to give them a comeuppance, it's 007 :007)

It is her time. While she is a great actress she really has overstayed her welcome. Every scene she has is played exactly the same way. We need someone who can get back to a real naval guy who knows how to get his hands dirty.
    Bernard Lee is M.

Wow. Lets hope the people at EON read this board and take our suggestion. It doesn't have to be a violent death, just a spot of poison in her spot of tea.

I still say it's too predictable for M to be killed. We don't need another body for Bond to avenge.
  • LoeffelholzLoeffelholz The United States, With LovePosts: 8,998Quartermasters
Doesn't have to be about vengeance, and the unprecedented certainly doesn't have to be predictable. As ever, it would be in the execution...so to speak :v

Besides, the biggest stumbling block to any kind of a shock of this magnitude is Dame Judi herself---she can't keep her mouth closed on a red carpet! :)) After principal photography is wrapped, she'll be doing press junkets round the world, saying: "I croak it in this one!" :))

Actually, what about simply having M fired for allowing Quantum to not only establish itself, but build up to any significance. A government minister is in their midst, and her own bodyguard was on the payroll. And further more, she can't even control her newest Double 0...

If the producers do decide to kill M in the next one, can't they put a "gag" (no pun intended) order on her? If she speaks of Ms death, the producers can turn around and sue her.

I love the idea of killing her . It would make a good plot. And get Dench away from the character M.

Nah, no matter much to lead up to it, she is just going to be another body for Bond avenge of if she gets killed by anyone. I really think she should be the victim of a horrible political scandal that develops over the course of two films. Something so big that will shake MI6 to the core for years to come. We haven't done something like that in a Bond film.

In all fairness, we've never killed an M, either ;) But the notion of a political scandal might be even more effective. I certainly hope it's one or the other; time to pass the torch! B-)

M was originally a man and M should have stayed a man. Whats next, an American woman playing Bond?.....

IF this M gets killed it should happen this way:

Bond resques another 00-agent who has been held captive by QUANTUM in the PTS.
It turn out this agent has been brainwashed by QUANTUM and later kills M. And the next M should be male.

    How about this then,

In Raymond Benson's book, The Facts of Death, M's lover is murdered by a 'Ricin-type' poison. She could have called Bond in a last ditch attempt to save her, but he is too late to save her. That could bring in a new version of S.P.E.C.T.R.E. or a terrorist group which Bond could go after.

Or, she could be out for dinner, and the restraunt is robbed and, in trying to save some of the customers, she is shot and killed. It turns out to be a robbery gone wrong.

However it happens, I think it'd be a great scene, and Dame Judi could have a smashingly Shakespearean sendoff :x Better to have it stand for something, though, I think.

I like the idea of M having to resign. I think killing her is just too much of the obvious route.

I agree. Doesn't have to be brutal. Just a spot of poison in her tea. Could you imagine if she drank her drink in TWINE. That could of been messy. :v

As I said in another thread.....you don't have to kill off "M" just have her move on (become a special advisor to the PM, hell, have her run for PM and win). That way she could do a cameo in the films and we could have a new "M" without the tiresome and distracting Mommy vs rebellious wayward son that we have now.
