I stand by my earlier post, however---'audio only' is vastly preferable |) Voice aside, she looks like she ought to be operating a Tilt-A-Wirl for a carnival somewhere.
) ) ) She does! That is a hilarious comparison, and unfortunately true. She does have a great voice....and a face for radio! )
There's no need to be calling her ugly, is there? I'm a bit uncomfortable with that.
|) Who here said 'ugly?' I saw a Tilt-A-Wirl operator at the Illinois State Fair last year who was quite fetching :x Then again---despite a certain undeniable bovine charm---I doubt she could sing a note
Advantage: Amy B-)
Sorry about the discomfort...It's just an opinion; that's all. Daniel Craig's face has been posted alongside a monkey, Eva Green's been compared to The Joker, etc., ad nauseam. My own personal comfort has rarely been a consideration in such things )
With me it's all about the emaciation, the bizarre behavior and the tattoos. God didn't do that to her; she did. It's fair game as far as I'm concerned.

True that, Loeff. In one of her early videos--"F-Me Pumps"--Amy has some meat on her bones and is tattoo free. While she wasn't a raving beauty she still looked acceptable. Now, though, ugh. . . But I still like her as a singer.

Word Loeff! Exactly what I meant too, and not to be taken so seriously. As usual emtiem, lighten up.
Regarding Amy Whinehouse, to me it's like Michael Jackson. He was beautiful as a young black man, still good looking when he became white, but who knows how many plastic surgeries later, he now looks like The Joker.

Sorry; I just thought there might be classier ways of talking about people than laughing at their appearance: I never really enjoyed the Daniel Craig/monkey stuff either. But I'll shut up.
Feel free to post a pic of yourself so we can all have a good laugh, though!
Nah; sorry, I've been a bit eggy about this. Not so much from this forum but on others where a lot of people are being very graceless and ungentlemanly about her. I'm not a massive fan or anything, but a lot of horrible insults have been flying her way from a lot of nasty people who hide behind the net anonymously and I think it can be a bit grubby. As I say, no-one here's being quite as bad but it's been winding me up a bit so I'm a bit knee-jerkish about it. Addiction is a disease, not a choice, and I class calling someone ugly as a bit of a personal insult.

While that's admirable, there's a lot on the net (and in these forums, a lot of them your posts) that get me eggy. I tend to ignore it and let other's be, it's not going to change.
No one has used the term ugly, no one has laughed at her addiction. Personally, I find tattoos (in particular on women) vile and I don't care for the style she goes in for, just like I don't care for Beth Ditto's style (which by extension some people may interpret as "fat" or "lesbian" rather than make up, clothes) or Christina Aguilera (who is certainly not ugly, in my opinion, but don't care for the hooker appearance). Each to their own personally, and I'm quite sure they'll find my style boring, conservative and non-descript and they're entitled to it.
As for addiction, yes, it's a tragic disease, but when such celebrities as Pete Doherty, Lindsay Lohan et al treat rehab like a weekend break and continue behaving outrageously then they clearly aren't willing to be helped in my opinion (again, something that others may disagree with, but I won't be swayed). I wish that wasn't the case, both their sakes' and those teenagers that read Heat magazine and the like.
As for appearances of people who "hide behind the net", we're not the ones who've chosen to get ourselves in the papers and be famous. If you court the media, then you're putting yourself out there.
Again, you may disagree, and I don't really care if you do or don't, it's just my honest opinion.
But yep, the internet is full of things that everyone will be irked by, it cannot be silenced or swayed, you just say your piece if you're so inclined, accept that it won't dent the world, and move on.
Ah, never a truer word, it would indeed by hard to justify some of the website's darker/sicker jokes, though I don't think it's too overripe today, thankfully.
Eggy...that is a good description! Every time I have a go 'round with emtiem it reminds me why I post so seldom now. I want to think of AJB as a camaraderie of friends I've had for 6 years now, where we used to laugh on threads for days and not pick apart each and every comment. When did we get so PC around here and so sensitive? Oh yeah..now I remember.
I know times change, and people move on, but it would be nice if things were like they used to be once in a while. It was a joke, a throw away clever comparison, I appreciated Loeff's wit...that was it!
I think it's admirable you admitted you are knee jerkish emtiem, because I don't really see how asking me "to post a picture to laugh at" is taking the high road at all.
When did we get so PC around here and so sensitive? Oh yeah..now I remember.
Sorry- I just really hated all the 'Craig as a monkey' stuff- it was really, really nasty; enough to make anyone sensitive. As M5 says, you can't put a dent in anything, but you can state your opinion and move on.
I think it's admirable you admitted you are knee jerkish emtiem, because I don't really see how asking me "to post a picture to laugh at" is taking the high road at all.
It wasn't really supposed to be; I was just making the point that people are people, and if one is laughing at them personally rather than professionally I don't think it really makes any difference as to whether they are posting on this forum or not. Hence, if we can laugh at how ugly we think Winehouse is (I know no-one used that precise term- I was paraphrasing for the sake of brevity; let's not pretend anyone was being complimentary) then we should be prepared to be laughed at by each other in a similarly unpleasant way: that's the point I was making. If you found the suggestion to be lower than the high road, well that sort of makes my point for me. I'm not laughing at your appearance personally and I never would; but it seems that you wouldn't like it if I or anyone here did because it is so 'low road'. That's all I'm trying to say.
Apologies for spoiling anyone's fun, I'll be moving on from this now I've said my piece.
Ahh...they'll get you for that every time, my dear :v
My most sincere apologies go out to ride operators around the globe. Many of them are decent people---working long hours, suffering a transient existence and earning an honest living---and they didn't deserve my cruel words. I shall endeavour to do better.
As I've previously said, I'm a new fan of Ms. Winehouse's music, but---personal problems and 'ink' aside---she's certainly not my type.
To be fair, neither is Tom Jones
Reminds me of an ongoing joke with some friends. It goes: "I'm not gay, but there are some men I'd sleep with first." )
Still...I have a lesbian friend at work who assures me that Amy Winehouse is, in fact, quite hot. There you go---for everybody, there's a someone :x

I completely agree with Loeffs and Monique on this one. I do NOT like Winehouse's looks, at all. No class, and all those tatoos, and the drugs make someone totally and completely unattractive to me.
I very much agree with Monique on the absolute necessity for wit and being a LOT more laid back here.. we're talking about James Bond, not about the Middle East peace process. It's certainly not a serious topic, let alone of any importance to what matters in life (well it does matter to us here, but that's just because we're.. a tad sick?? ) )).
Loeffs your comparison was hilarious!! ) )
On a musical note, I am not happy with the choice. While Winehouse is indeed very talented, I prefer MUCH more refined stuff for Bond, and after that tragic thing we had with Casino Royale, I don't want to end up with yet another weird choice for QoS. Let's just hope that this round Winehouse surprises me. (though I doubt it to be honest )).
Also, standing ovation to Moonranker 5 for what he wrote about being a celebrity, putting yourself in the public eye AND that whole thing about rehab: great points.
"Are we on coms?" (if you don't know where this is from... you've missed some really good stuff! )
My most sincere apologies go out to ride operators around the globe.
That made me laugh out loud again. I feel like the kids in the back of the classroom that can't stop giggling over something their teacher scolded them not to say. )
I think what gets me about Amy's appearance besides the horrible tattoos and Cleopatra eye make up, is that God awful bee hive hairdo she constantly wears! It's cool she wants to be different, but it's like she goes out of her way to look bad!

I'm with Loeffs, cracking talent, belong to a bit of a head case unfortunately.

It's a carnival/amusement park ride with spinning cars on a spinning wheel that itself rises up and tilts:
