Devil May Care Sequels

Does anyone know if there are going to be more 007 novels by Faulkes after Devil May Care, ie: as Gardener and Benson did, or will there just be this one?

I suppose we need to see if DMC is any good before we can start hoping for sequels. Early buzz was that the novel was great, but I'm still not entirely convinced of Faulk's credentials. The proof, as they say, is in the pudding.

When the book was first announced--and the author's name was kept secret--it was said that this would be a "one-off" to celebrate Fleming's centenary. But who knows? As DH says, if the book is a hit, Faulks could always come back for a sequel. I don't know if, like Gardner and Benson, he'd sign up for a book-a-year contract, though. Faulks is a well-established writer with his own interests, and he might not want to commit himself to a project like this, especially since Ian Fleming Productions has a large say over what is published.

Faulks was just interviewed on Radio 4's Today- which may be available online as a podcast or similar. Here's a precis:

He enjoyed writing DMC, but doesn't think he'll be doing more. IFP were very nice to him. EON have read and liked the book, but he has no idea whether they'll film it or not. He would get some money if that happened. He read the Fleming books in the correct order before starting his. He compared the difference between his usual work and DMC to a classical composer, used to writing symphonies, being asked to write a three-minute pop song.

Faulks has said it's unlikely that he'll do any more, but IFP have said "there will be some more novels in the future.”

He also suggests "the Fleming estate should invite a series of other novelists to do one-off Bond continuations"- perhaps something they'll do? I'm sure they're looking at the idea.

there is some footage of the book being launched "in style" and an interview with Faulks (although it might be the same as above thread.)

Anyway there was a nice article on there too, that I thought you might enjoy.
