Ian Fleming's final story: The Poppy is Also A Flower

I've written an investigative piece on Ian Fleming's final creative work, The Poppy is Also A Flower. It has many interesting parallels with Devil May Care.

Enjoy.

    Yes indeed thanks for that really interesting article. Can I ask is this film available on DVD at all? I'd love to see it myself -for although its reviews were not great -I bet now it would be considered well worth a perusal by any 007 fan and retro cinema enthusiast.

    The DVD extras for "The Wild Geese" highlights this movie and mentions Ian Fleming's contributions, I think because they shared the same producer.

    Interesting. I wasn't aware that there were any links to Ian Fleming in that film. Can you tell us more superado?

    Yes, SM, the featurette I mentioned if I remember correctly highlighted the career of Euan Lloyd, who produced The Wild Geese and The Poppy is Also A Flower, and I just learned from IMDB, Who Dares Wins: The Final Option as well. Poppy was directed by Terence Young, interestingly.

    I think if you search on the internet for it you should still be able to find a copy of it. -{

    Could you tell us more of Ian Fleming's involvement in The Wild Geese? I find this most fascinating as I've nebver heard of it before. :)

    Apologies, I didn't mean that Ian Fleming had any direct involvement with the movie, if that's what it seemed.

    I rented the film through lovefilm. A real oddity, starts with a public health warning about opium by a retired Princess Grace! Then has its Bondian moments, as if out of Thunderball. Goes with the aint drugs ruining our kids theme, and has something in common with The Diamond Smugglers, and so on. Omar Shariff, Yul Brynner, Trevor Howard appear, but it's a mess.

    BTW a nice hardback of Fleming's Thrilling Cities, both volumes, is for sale in a London Charing X road bookshop.
