Another Update seeing as I have now read up to chapter 10 of DMC. I think the main problem with DMC is the fact that it is so much a homage to fleming's past work. Instead of being a continuation of what has gone before Faulks seems to have delighted himself in putting in refrences to past Bond novels and creating characters that are cut from the same cloth as ones that have gone before. However the story, for me is compelling, the characters interesting, although some of them are very similar to characters gone by. in paticular Darius Alizadeh being effectively an Iranian Kerim Bay. As I said in my last post this will either put off readers or not. it does not effect me that much and therefore I have enjoyed what I have read so far and recommend it to a Bond fan or not.

Edit: I wasn't sure about the Tennis scene, although it was in the ilk of the Goldfinger Golf chapter it seemed to swing all to easily Bond's way. however seeing as I am yet to finish the book their may be a reason for this.

If so, I can't imagine jetsetwilly liking this book, as I recall his criticism of one book review in which the author delighted in The Governor from Quantum of Solace (the short story) showing up in a continuation novel whereas jsw 'gave a snort of disgust...'!

Yes, pastiche would be a fairly generous appraisal for Devil May Care!

Like Bond in Skyfall, you specialise in 'resurrection' Silhoutette Man! You give more threads a second chance than TK Maxx! :))

Well, it's getting nearer to Easter so it seems appropriate. There are some great old chesnuts here on AJB that can be reheated!
