long-sleeve Polo in Casino Royale?

Hello,

we have confirmed information from Sunspel, that the long-sleeve blue Polo (with the white buttons and NO pocket ;) ) is NOT from them.

Anyone with an idea, who could be the maker?

Couldn't be a John Smedley could it?

Yes, I think it may be the John Smedly "Leander" in what they refer to as "Blue Suede" for the color...the suede reference is just what they call it...it's not really suede.

When you look at it on the John Smedley site the buttons may not look quite right but I think it has more to do with the how color changes as you flip through the various color options...the color is filled in over a blank template so the buttons seem to match whatever color shirt is selected.

I thought I had read long ago that they did the cardigan and maybe the sweater from the opening scene as well. All I remember for sure is that they were credited in the movie.

I am pretty sure this is it. Anyone willing to contact John Smedley to confirm? Perhaps they could make some more up for us sad gits as they only have S and XS available at the moment.

    The Leander costs 112 GBP...about 220 USD.

Is it the sea island one?

I believe it is sea island cotton if memory serves me correctly. Again, I can't say for sure if this is THE shirt since it has not been confirmed by John Smedley but this looks as close as it can get. The screen seen shirt had kind of a brushed, worn look to the material (perhaps why they call it "blue suede"?).

I'd say the odds are pretty good that this is the real deal.

Too bad the only sizes they currently have are in "Mini-Me" sizes...

The "Canford" cardigan in navy looks very similar to the one used in the movie...

if i remember correctly, they went on record on saying two sweaters were used (the Richards model and one other one - though i cant remember that model name).

I do remember one was a roll-neck and one was a v-neck. the roll-neck always puzzled me because i couldnt figure out what scene it was used in. i suspect they supplied those two models but this does not necessarily mean it is in a scene in the final movie.

the polo lead makes sense but i have two additional thoughts:

    1) if you are going to trumpet your connection via the two models of sweaters, why wouldnt you also cite the polo?

    2) i would be surprised if it is sea island. having one sea island and a couple of non-sea island shirts from smedley the drape in the shirt in the movie doesnt seem consistent with sea island (it is very very thin, particularly the smedley versions). doesnt mean it cant be but id be surprised

I have a pair (light and dark blue) of Tasso Elba long sleaves that look simular to the Polos in CR. While it may not be the ones used in the film, they are soft (100% Mercerized Cotton), confortable and very price efficiant. You may want to look into them for those of us on a budget.

I am fairly certain it is not a John Smedley Leander: I have been wearing John Smedley polos for years and the collar shape is distinct, it is a larger, more stylised collar (and one they’ve used since the sixties, I believe) than the cutaway collar on the CR long-sleeve polo.

The finish of a Smedley shirt is also very distinct, their Sea Island cottons are knitted so you will notice the sleeve attachment is different, as is the overall look of the garment.

They do sometimes make Polos with a more standard looking cut-away collar, I believe the Cashmere/Cotton “Chigwell” is a current example of this.

I don’t recall ever seeing Bond wearing any John Smedleys, although apparently they did provide those two Merino tops for CR, perhaps we'll see them once deleted scenes are made available?

As for the CR long-sleeve polo, the search is on.

    Cheers
