Bilbao Tie....2nd Order

Just got off the phone with kevin. I was able to order FOUR of the Bilbao ties which will take a month to complete...and just in time! It seems that their factory will be closing in August and this will be just under the wire...

Here is who made the cut off list:
Zaritsky
Schofield
Remmert
Monza860

The ties are $150.00 each and it is a four tie per order minimum as this is considered custom.

Why is it jumping from a 2 tie minimum to 4? I'm confused ?:) My order was certainly no less 'custom' as it was not in stock and they had to weave it at their factory just the same.

Are they opening a new factory?

Lol I wonder if Kevin knows what the herringbone madness is all about? :)) I never mentioned Bond when I placed the order with him.

I might have let it slip that it was a bond tie :# I was trying to get him to make us some other ones but he didnt seem interested.

    What did he say?

He said they might be making more in the fall but he's not sure! I was hinting at him makig more exclusivley for us but no dice, why dont you tryyour magic again?

Hrrm. In my thank you email to him I also asked if they could weave out-of-print patterns from previous seasons (without mentioning Bond), and he said yes no problem although there would be the standard 2-order minimum and 4-6 week wait.

He seems like one of the nicer folk at T&A NY but even then I'm sure their target audience are not the Bond fans, so I can understand his reluctance.

As a point of random trivia (and Thomas Crown Affair fans), Brosnan wears the silver version of the herringbone "Bilbao" tie in the Thomas Crown Affair. You can spot it in the fundraiser sequence when he donates the Pizzaro painting. In the credits it also states that men's furnshings were provided by Turnbull & Asser, which seems to remove doubt that it may have been another company.

Having had a chance to wear it, I have to say the quality is quite remarkable. While the fabric is not very thick, it is extremely solid and stiff, and really makes for a superb knot. I was always curious as to how Brosnan got his tie knots (particularly in TWINE) to jut out from his collar with just a simple four-in-hand... turns out it has nothing to do with HOW he tied it but rather the stiffness of the silk in a T&A tie. vk_smiley_thumbs_up.gif
