Just a quick comment on a fashion trend I am seeing around Chicago which I personally hate. In the spring I started noticing women wearing brightly colored boots that looked more like old fashion galoshes.

    http://www.shoebuy.com/womens-rain-boots.htm

Seems the second it gets a little damp a large segment of the female population has to break out these brightly colored boots. To me they are very unfeminine. What is really odd is I see some women wear them when it isn't wet. I also noticed that many times the brightly colored boots clash with the rest of the woman's outfit. But I'm a guy, so what do I know.

Oh.MY.GOD. Fisher boots! HORRENDOUS! AND extremely unfeminine, I agree. NO slim shape, no heel and not a flattering flat line (like a ballerina-type shoe) either. TRAGIC!

And.. hi, how's everyone been? :D

    Oh HI! :D

And you have an email! :))

Seems like this place is dead, which really is TOO BAD!!! But I guess given the now indefinite hiatus and the uncertainty, that it is normal. I guess I'm the only one who sees the reeeally positive side in the prospect of Sam Worthington or even better Henry Cavill being the next Bond :)) Sorry, I like my Bond to look like Bond :))

Hi Al, how about a new photo? You always looked a bit like Donkey off Shrek on that one... {:)

You think you can just come back here, with no explanation, nothing... :v

Why HELLO everyone! You mean I should post a new photo to my avatar?? :D Sure, I'm going to right away. AND :O I look like Shrek?? Why would you even want to see another one if you think I look like Shrek! :))

I didn't mean to steal Markus's attention. And awww stating never call me old, what a gentleman :D And, I have an email to reply to LOL

ETA: the size for the avatar here is so ridiculously small that I can't change it and I don't even know how I managed to upload this one in the first place? No idea. It's also really bizarre because it won't let me link to outside source for avatar, just upload a file and who the hell has a file so small with a photo? LOL I can try and work on something different, though :v

ETA: I tried in every way and this WON'T upload the new photo and also made the old one even weirder :O

What are you wittering on about, Al? ;)

That is a new avatar you've uploaded.

I didn't say you looked like Shrek, rather the old picture had you looking like Donkey off Shrek:

:O Ok I still see the old avatar and you see a new one? :O :O I did upload a new one but I keep seeing the old one! :O Something is clearly wrong :))

LMAO not even Shrek, the Donkey! :)) :)) I sure should be flattered by that comparison, right? That's what a real Bond girl looks like! Carrying the weight of Bond, literally! :))

Speaking of, what's with this new Bond girl talk? Why don't they use my old mate Sydney Bristow (Jennifer Garner) as Bond girl instead? Oh right, because she'd kick Bond's ass, especially Daniel Craig's :)) :)) I've seen the usual Eva Green on something recently. I am sorry I just can't bring myself to like the girl. I just CANNOT.

I will focus on getting Henry Cavill as the next Bond... what's with that ridiculously good style he has as they're putting him in a tux? That's PURE Bond right there if you ask me :D

Well, Cavill has a weedy voice but that won't affect you Al, as he'll be dubbed in Italy won't he?

Besides, haven't you heard, Roger Moore's coming back as Bond.

You seriously think I watch stuff dubbed?! :O And I LOVE Cavill's voice, there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! :D Especially paired with that to-die-for body and face :)) And if they wanted a blond Bond then they should've had my boyfriend Michael Vartan as Bond. :007) He's too cool for it anyway.. and he's not into red carpets and being in the spotlight so much, so despite the fact he loved playing Vaughn on Alias, and despite saying he misses being on set with a gun, I don't think he would've considered. Plus he's too cool and too good looking for freaking Barbara Broccoli. He's MINE! :v

YYYYYAAAYY for Roger Moore coming back! He surely looked more Bondian than Daniel Craig when he guest starred on Alias :))

So I have a new suggestion for Bond girl-style. Do any of you watch White Collar? The girl who plays the FBI agent in S1 could DEFINITELY be a great Bond girl. As could Alex, the girl who is Neal's partner-in-crime at the end, so to say. Don't even get me started on how Matthew Bomer would be absolutely FANTASTIC.. as Bond. Never gonna happen because he's American, so I'll stick with Henry Cavill. But, Matthew Bomer... SWOOOON. :))

Never heard of the programme or the guy....so did an image search of him....and he is WAY too pretty boy !
Looks like he needs to age 10 years for a start :)) No idea of his acting skills either...so can't comment from that point of view....

I am not sure what genre of shows you like to watch on TV, but I'm pretty confident since you're a Bond fan that you would definitely like White Collar. It's actually the most "talked-about" new show in the US. It starts again on July 13 on US Network (yes, cable show, yes that's why it's good quality! :))).

Matthew Bomer is around 30 so I think he's perfect age for Bond, they really need to have a MUCH younger Bond than Craig IMO. In any case it's never gonna happen because he's American! :)) So I will stick with Henry Cavill. But, that said, the girl who plays Alex, his "partner-in-crime" in some of the episodes, would be a fantastic Bond girl. As would the other girl who plays the FBI agent (So can use guns and whatnot).

Also, White Collar has this fantastic Rat Pack style for both the main character (the guy I'd like as Bond) and for the ladies... and that's just very Bondian :D

This is the home page for the show:

    http://www.usanetwork.com/series/whitecollar/

These are the girls. First photo is Bomer with the girl who portrays Alex

    http://www.mattbomerfan.com/gallery/displayimage.php?pid=19206&fullsize=1

Second photo is Natalie Morales, the girl who portrays the FBI agent

    http://www.imdb.com/media/rm1321636864/nm2295540

I think both would be great choices for Bond girls, having seen them in "action" :D. And VERY stylish

Hi Alessandra, it's rare I watch that much on TV nowadays.....I've never seen an episode of 24 or Spooks or pretty much any of the 'Spy Genre' TV shows....but you are probably correct in saying, that if I watched them I'd like them....

To me Bomer looks more Remington Steele than James Bond....but that's only to my eye :D

As for the girls...well...I have no problems with them ;)

And I'd like to see them in 'action' too ;) :D

:D but that's exactly why I love him as a Bond idea.. because I LOVED Remington Steele as Bond :D But in any case, he's American so it's NEVER gonna happen. I'm sticking with my boy Henry Cavill :D

This is very different from 24 or Spooks, it's less strictly "spy" material, more stylish and much more "To Catch a Thief" style.. I do think you'd like it. But hey, if you don't have time for TV, then you're better off! :D

Good! The girls were the real focus since I do think they'd be good Bond girl material, or actually great seeing them "in action" And :)) I'm sure you wouldn't mind, and glad you find them to be "decent" enough? Though indecent would probably do better? :))

    :)) :))

Well it works both ways you know.. like me wanting to see "indecent" Bond when Brosnan or Dalton were concerned :)) And VERY indecent if Cavill will ever be concerned :))

Now seriously, the two actresses are good. And they really do look like Bond girl material to me. Like for once having someone who can act AND be a tough girl (not the usual whiny/too girly/too needy sidekick). YET they remain very feminine. Basically like my favourite Bond girl, Pam Bouvier :D I'd love to see both of these girls as Bond girls. I think we can squeeze in a bikini scene for you, does that work? :))

And I'm glad you found Dalton attractive.....I always feel he isn't appreciated as much as he should be.

Memory isn't helping me but I think quite a few of us Bond Girls in here find Dalton attractive. And I have at least a couple of friends who rank him the most attractive Bond. My favourite is Brosnan but I certainly DO appreciate Dalton a lot, and hell, I find him a very attractive, charming man. Nothing to say from that point of view. I really like his screen presence and the way he moves. He certainly has always had the Bond style for me. In fact, I want to get back to that style, because I am not a fan of the Craig "style". Also, Dalton had one of my favourite Bond girls. Pam Bouvier will always be in the top three for me.. actually probably all at no.1 :)) I can't pick between some of them (loved Honey, and quite a few of the "old" ones). But of the recent ones, Bouvier is no.1 for me. I loved her and her style. Haircut and dress especially! I really wish they got back to that style. I liked Caterina Murino, too. Too bad she didn't last more than what... 5 minutes total? :))

Gemma Arterton was really bad for me :# Didn't like the style at all (that horrid creased trench was possibly one of the worst outfits ever for a Bond girl). And don't get me started on Eva Green :)) Also, all of these recent girls were basically HORRID on the red carpet. I think we have quite the collection of fashion missteps from the girls in this thread :))

But, these two new submissions I made should do the trick. Seen both dressed up on "White Collar" and they were really stylish. And beautiful. Of course we'll put the bikini scene in. You included. :))

I'm glad that Dalton is getting some good plaudits...even if only retrospectively...I thought he made a great Bond....I think his 'style' is close to Craig's too.
Pam Bouvier was/is fabulous....very assured....very direct...very sexy....Eva Green...?...I'll be very happy to 'get started' on her anytime :x Her voice alone makes me melt....well...not melt 'everywhere' ;%

Oh I gave him credit back then, not just now :D I beg to differ on the style. Unfortunately, Craig for me has the manner and look of a "blue collar" type, which doesn't suit Bond at all. While Timothy Dalton was all elegance and class. And very "upper crust" despite playing a dark, gritty Bond. The way Dalton moved, talked and his behaviour to me have nothing to do with Craig's "style". That said, to each their own :)) I really liked Dalton. The movies, though, weren't up to par. Actually, I thought LTK was really good, but never, ever liked TLD and thought it was, at a point, BORING even. :o Guess a lot of it had to do with my utter dislike for the Bond girl whom I found absolutely insignificant, thus giving me no interest in seeing Bond save her or get with her. Which is kind of the whole point of the movies, together with obviously killing the bad guys? That is another Bond where I think they went wrong with casting the Bond girl, she just does absolutely nothing for me. There again, I'm sure she was just fine for others :D

:)) :)) :)) We'll absolutely agree on Bouvier. You can totally keep Eva Green  Damn, I really dislike her, it's not nice. :)) Like, she makes me want to slap her when I see her face and the poor thing has done nothing to me. I guess seeing her in person would solve the problem. Either I'll deem her nice thus stop hating and only dislike her as Bond girl, or I will just accept that I can't stand her. :))

I'm sure you wouldn't melt... it's very different when you see those people in person. Especially for women. Without the couture dresses and the makeup? A lot of them are really disappointing in person. Some are gorgeous anyway, but others? Major disappointment. I will tell you those I considered gorgeous that were even better in person: Michelle Pfeiffer (ah, the divine!) and Yasmeen Ghauri (former model. I don't think I've ever seen anyone more gorgeous and elegant than her. Photo here http://www.icelebz.com/celebs/yasmeen_ghauri/photo14.html). and here http://www.fanpix.net/picture-gallery/964/225964-yasmeen-ghauri-picture.htm

It's different for men, because there's far less makeup and styling involved. In fact, Pierce Brosnan is even more swoon-worthy in person, because of his charm. Even Colin Farrell, whom I never considered particularly my "type" until I saw him in Miami Vice, is much better in person. I saw him closely in a club in NYC that was packed with celebrities.. he definitely holds his own :))

I couldn't disagree more regarding the "I'm sure you wouldn't melt... it's very different when you see those people in person. Especially for women. Without the couture dresses and the makeup? A lot of them are really disappointing in person." part when it comes down to Miss Green.

She is a prime example of what I call a natural beauty.

The less makeup and "couture" she wears, the more stunning she looks.

She actually rather "hides" behind often too heavy make-up and plays with that whole notion.

Before and during the release of the 2003 movie The Dreamers (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0309987) you could catch her sometimes on French TV (I lived close to the French border back then) in various Making Of-like featurettes and promo interviews. The movie itself also shows her with a (for movies reasonable) minimum of make-up.

That was when I was "smitten" first.

    -{
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights.
But you yourself are nothing so divine.

    Just next in line.

    Hi and welcome!

Well, my point was very different. I think if you don't see her in person? You can't really say what your reaction would be, because you haven't seen her for what she actually looks like. She's always behind a camera when you see her and that's exactly what I'm referring to. I don't consider Green a natural beauty at all. She's pale, inexpressive and tasteless when it comes to clothes. That's obviously my personal opinion (corroborated by those who have seen her in person though  but still, I haven't.)

The scene in Bond where everyone said she was so hot? That is FAR from being no make up (the shower scene is what I'm referring to). Did you know that doing the "natural" look takes forever? (ask a make-up artist if you don't believe me). Making people look natural takes forever, and takes a lot more effort in applying makeup than just being femme-fatale. When you think you're seeing actresses with little to no makeup? That's exactly when they've been sitting 4 hours in the make-up chair to have that look.

My point is that things really, really change in person in a normal life situation, because they're not behind a camera. They're just human beings like many others, and most aren't nearly as "imposing" or nearly as "charming" in person. I talk by experience having seen many actors and athletes in person. Both men and women. And women in particular, actresses? In most cases lose a lot in person. The make-up doesn't mean "femme fatale" makeup. It just means makeup. The best make-up is discreet make-up and trust me... none of the footage you have seen has anyone without makeup. The only cases where you see actresses without makeup? Is when the paparazzi get them. And hardly ever they look good there, unless they're Gisele Bundchen :)) Or Michelle Pfeiffer of course :D

That's exactly what I mean. What you think is "minimum" makeup is exactly the "natural" look that takes forever to obtain in terms of make-up. People who are GOOD with make-up are capable of using it perfectly by making it seem natural and enhancing the features of a woman. That doesn't mean they use less make-up than for the femme-fatale kind of look at all. It means they make good use of it. Which is exactly my point. No make-up and seeing in person is a completely different matter, nothing to do with the natural look on screen. Most women do not look good with femme-fatale make-up like the make-up they used for Green in Bond. The "natural" look suits most a lot better. And takes far better make-up artists and a lot more time to obtain. So that's what I meant about Green (and most actresses in general). Without those really good make-up artists? With actually NO make-up (and not the natural look you see behind the camera, that is the result of a great make-up artist work)? She wouldn't be nearly as attractive, like most actresses. I have not met her in person but I do have first-hand reports, and none (and I'm talking about men) were particularly impressed by her. Quite the opposite.

Gemma Arterton said it well last week in an interview on Io Donna, the weekly fashion magazine of Corriere della Sera here in Italy. She said she's got teenagers writing to her saying "I wanna be like you". And she replied "Be my guest, but what you see is the result of four hours of make-up and lots of gym". She was brutally honest about it. Very few actresses look as good (or better) in person than they do on screen, because of this whole "make-up and stylist" component. A group of friends of mine was with Claire Forlani (actress who was in Meet Joe Black with Brad Pitt and Anthony Hopkins) on vacation in southern France and they said she is absolutely fabulous and adorable. They didn't even recognise her at first, they were just wondering who was that really cute girl. So she's another case of "looking good" in person too.. but there again, she looked nothing like she does on screen.

Point is? You can't base your "I would melt" reaction on what you see on screen when it comes to women especially. It's very different in person (and again I mean in person as in everyday clothes, or walking down a street, not during an event when they're all dolled up), and most of the times it's "oh seriously? that's all there is to it?", especially for women. I'm a woman so I shouldn't say so, but it's the truth  Again, Michelle Pfeiffer and Yasmeen Ghauri were definitely exceptions for me, because they look super-fabulous in person with no makeup and a pair of jeans..but we're talking about former models here, people who, genetically, are just freaking blessed  So, I'm not sure that would work for many others. In my experience it hasn't (And no I won't mention those who looked dreadful in person, it's not kind  Especially since they're women ).

That doesn't mean you won't drool over Green everytime you see her on TV or in a photo, of course, and good for you! :D Good that we don't all like the same things, or we'd be all fighting over the same men and women! Tragedy! :o:)). But, again, the "natural" look you see behind the camera or in photos? Has got nothing natural! (and yeah, I'm really good with makeup, I've been told so by both Chanel and Yves-Saint Laurent make-up artists, so trust me I know what I'm saying )
"Are we on coms?" (if you don't know where this is from... you've missed some really good stuff! :D)

With all due respect, Alessandra, you sound almost obsessed when it comes down to the deconstruction of Miss Green.

I'm an admirer since I saw her on stage in Turcaret almost eight years ago.

I don't only see the outside in a woman, never did, what attracts me is the fusion of character, talent, soul and what is visible.
That full mixture only makes the impression whole.
Following her career a bit, I read an interview whenever I stumbled upon one and what I read and learned, made me appreciate her more and more.
    Sensibility, intellect, vulnerability.
It's not as easy as you make it sound- there is more than what just meets the eye.

I myself have a strong dislike for certain actors, whenever I get a chance, I'll bash them into next week.
To me this seems to be such a case for you, a strong personal dislike you yourself maybe can't explain- irrational but passionate.
    Been there, done that.

Regarding the whole make-up and "natural beauty" case: I'm not 20 anymore and pride myself to be able to finally and actually look beyond make-up. Let's just say I met too many ladies to not realize what lurks or shines behind the mask.

In the end though it all boils down to perspective.
None of your arguments will convince me the slightest, none of mine will convince you.

Some see the Mona Lisa as a beautiful masterpiece, others as overrated and simplistic art.

I still like your style though of course- when you hate something or someone, you seem to do it with every fibre.
Means when you adore something or someone you propbably do that with the same passion.
    Good people those.
And as stated, I count myself among them.

    And pale?
    Of course she's pale!

    I like pale.

    Always did.

    -{
I've seen angels fall from blinding heights.
But you yourself are nothing so divine.

    Just next in line.

Robert? not sure about the name, anyway R.Sterling (sorry if I use the nickname, I don't know your real name, forgive me!).....but this was a very superficial conversation we were having! (not you and I, I mean before you joined). I by no means think Eva Green is stupid, or insensitive, or someone who's got nothing to say to the world. I don't know her as a person and what we were talking about was merely a style thing, like we often do in here.

It wasn't meant to come off as "so and so sucks as a person". That's a totally different matter. We were talking about how, off-screen, most women who are actresses lose a lot of their "charm" because there's no make-up or stylists involved. That was exactly what my post was about. Doesn't mean I am judging Green as a person at all. I really dislike her LOOKS and STYLE. That's got nothing to do with disliking her as a person. I don't know anything about that and I've learnt by experience not to say anything unless I've met them in person when it comes to actors/athletes (e.g. people I considered stupid turned out to be far from that, and people who sounded so intelligent from press interviews then turned out to be all hype and no substance). So I've got absolutely nothing to say on Green as a person. This was a purely "aesthetics" discussion, and wasn't meant to offend her as a person. Heck, we've said far worse about others in this thread :)) I only talked about the natural look that is just not natural at all, that's just the truth, you can ask any actress/make-up artist about that. Which, again, doesn't mean you won't be in awe of Ms Green everytime you see her on screen, and good! :D As I said, if we all liked the same men/women it would be a tragedy! :D

I didn't like her at all but I didn't like Gemma Arterton at all either as Bond girl. Yet I did appreciate her remarks on that magazine, AND I did appreciate her in that very weird "travelling in time" version of Pride & Prejudice. She looked a lot more "natural" than she did on Bond. Does that mean she had little make-up? Hell no, per her own words :)) That's really all there was to the conversation. :D Wasn't meant to be any other type of "judgement" on Green or others as people. Only an "image" and "make-up" type of convo. That's why this is the Bond girl watercooler after all! :D

And, good to be passionate of course. Always! Glad you're one, too! :D

Alessandra, hi! I've been meaning to talk to you about Matt Bomer! I love White Collar too, and discovering him was the best part. He does have a bit of that Pierce charm, and gorgeous good looks. Season 2 starts next week! Can't wait...

Monique!!! Sooo good to "see you" -{ OMG I KNEW You would LOOOOVE the Bomer man! God, he is soooo gorgeous. And charming. And stylish. And Bondian. And Pierce-like.

Don't show me those "I'm getting an open air shower" photos please, have mercy. I managed not to look at them too much  A friend of mine almost died, I created a monster  I told her to watch White Collar.. she watched all of season 1 overnight! :O Said she is in love  And can't stop looking at him! I wish we had someone like him for Bond. There's no way he can do it because he's American, but I DO think, especially given the disastrous situation the whole Pinewood Studios-MGM group is facing, that in the end they WILL pick someone younger than Craig when they finally shoot... and that BETTER be Henry Cavill! :v

A TV critic wrote a great column about The Tudors and Henry Cavill and his character being the real central compass of the show, and the reason why she watched... and after a certain conversation? She included a "pick him for James Bond" suggestion in there

I cannot wait for White Collar, too. I was just reading the spoilers for the premiere on TV.com, I am DAMN curious.

One of the best things about that show? Totally Bond girl-style. And Bond-style. In fact, did you see who I suggested for Bond girls? The White Collar girls! :D I think they'd be great!
