mathis fate

it was hinted at in an early on set pic but giancarlo giannini has stated in a recent interview that mathis will die in the arms of bond...i for one hope it is a brave exit as the writers botched the fleming character in casino royale and he deserves a good farewell

Be careful of spoilers. Not everyone reads these
interviews. If you're going to give away plot info. please do so with a preliminary warning.
As for the "death" of Mathis, I take everything in such interviews with a grain of salt. I don't think the Mathis character was botched too badly in CR. I would have been happier with a character more faithful to the original, of course, but this was an interesting and surprising twist.

    I think maybe the title.

    SPOILER Mathis Fate

It doesn't take much to assume from the title that Mathis is going to die. I know I came to that conclusion as soon as I read it the title of this thread. Maybe the title should just say "Spoiler - Rene Mathis" and leave it at that. There is still lots of mystery around what direction the Mathis character will take for the non-literary Bond fans.

No big deal for me personally -I don't mind spoilers.

Mathis Fate could mean a lot of things. Is he going to help Bond? Was he corrupted? Will he appear in other films? Still, I take the point.
If you don't wanna know, don't look.

Perhaps he dies through a careless mistake of Bond's?

I don't buy this for a minute. As an avid reader of Flemming, I know that *spoiler* Mathis doesn't die in the novels, and becomes one of Bond's trusted allies. With this new reboot staying more in line with the original material, I don't think the writers would so blatantly contradict the original. And i don't see how this change could aid in the plot. We'll see though.

We'll it can add to the plot if his death is meaningful and not just another death of an allyl For example people who have seen the new Batman movie will know that the death of a Rachel was unexpected, but it did provide motivation for Dent in the final act of the movie. It really depends on what the context of the story is.

As for him not dieing in the books but doing so in the movie - no I dont agree with that. It all depends on how much is taken really
