Corgi Bond Figures - CANCELLED!!

I was speaking to someone who was at the SDCC today and he confirmed that the Bond line of figures has been cancelled. The exact phrasing of the rep for the company who was designing and producing them for Corgi said that they would now 'never see the light of day as the interest in them was low'. NUTS!!!!

Oh really? that's annoying- I was really looking forward to those.

I hope we get to see the prototypes at some stage.

How do they know the "interest was low"? Who did they ask a suit at Wal-Mart?

think we have already seen the prototypes the ones that were floating around on the net anyway... I think this has something to do with the sale of corgi and this is also holding up the master replicas props as they teamed up with corgi to get the bond licence...

We didn't see the 5" sculpts, did we?

the ones I remember seeing are as follows.

head and shoulders sculpt bust - 2 different versions of daniel craig as Bond and one of vesper.

corgi icon sized figures of le chrife.

and baron samedia, scaramanga, honey rider and odd job... and a few others... the corgi icon similary sized figures were shown on dioramas...

scaramanga in his fun house, and jaws on top of the cable car in moonraker,, and odd job picking up his hat after cutting the head off the statue,, if I remember rightly...

My memories of looking at these figures are scetchy...

its a shame there not coming out.. they would have been great ..

It seems, that they are sharing their faith with the famous mirror car.
As long as they keep on with a full array of MR replica items, I can live with it.

    Yea, me too. :(

I really wanted these to add to the previous Corgi Icon Bond figures I have. I'm sure a limited run of these would have been viable.

I am very disapointed at this, the figures were looking good and it would have been the time Daniel Craig's likeness had graced an action figure.

Oh well on to plan B then, making a custom with the head from his Golden Compass figure and a GI Joe figures body.

yes I too am disapointed... although i specialise in props and replicas... these figures would have been great on display next to the corgi Icons...

I would be happy enough if they just released the casino royale head and shoulders sculpt busts... they looked to be the best ...

I can see master replicas BOND props getting canceled soon also..

has a reason been given for the cancellation of the figures... I know it has been said that there was little interest... however think of the amount of rubbish corgi has produced in recent times... that no one was interested in releasing the same range of car like 4 times in different packaging... and poorer quality...

these figures were a chance to redeem themselves .. and bring back some great bond collectables... but like corgi always do they have failed...

to be honest the only good Bond items corgi have ever produced were there

original 1966 - 261 corgi db5 with gadgets... there 2nd version from 1968 with tyre slashers... there lotus corgi original from 1976.

and the corgi icon figures in 1999 ....

a pretty low amount of good items for nearly 50 years...

oooohhh, you did forget a lot:

    The TSWLM gift set
    The Octopussy Gift Set
The Alpine gift set (which has never been sold as a 007 set)
    The entire Director"s Cut range
The Rockets line including the Whizzweels bobsleds and Beetle

I am sure, that I did forget something, not to mention other brilliant lines like Starsky & Hutch, Tarzan, Chipperfield etc. etc.

And I personally found the Icons pretty disappointing, especially Honey Rider loosing skin on my Dr. No mint set. :#

But I agree, that there was a loss of quality in the last decade, which roots in Corgis dilemma, that avid collectors, who pay high prices for good items are few and the need of the market to flood kids with cheap car models and start a price war on low quality, that they"ll never win.

I wonder where all this leaves their latest incarnation of the DB5 (measuring about a foot in length), the prototype was on display at the Goldfinger event at Pinewood months ago.

I think things are in a mess right now with the licencing from EON and Corgi .... i can deffinetly see the master replicas props getting cancelled ... I am almost 90% sure they will ..

as the new corgi figures and other items along with master replicas... were meant i think for a release at the same times... and i think its all going down the toilet ,,, which is a true shame as I was looking forward to the master replicas Golden gun ... it was the only thing I was going to buy though ... and possibly the new corgi figures...

is corgi still releasing all the silly little walki talki bond toys... ? was that corgi or another company ?

sorry magucathy I did forget about some other good items Corgi produced... I will agree there only good recent range was the directors cut cars...

but overall comparing them to the current JAMES BOND car collection .. with the magazine... they are poor and in no comparison... with the car collection... which give as good detail as minichamps in my opinion .. well worth £8.00 each... although I am not collecting them My uncle is and I think its a fantastic range the best Bond cars yet for the detail and scale etc ..

but i dont like the fact that some cars in the range are purely pointless and only onscreen for 3 seconds... most obvious being the mini moke from LALD ...

but hey overall a great collection.

As I do a little bit of work for Corgi (Starting this year I research schemes for the helicopter models in the Aviation Archive range)I may have a little insight with this.
When Hornby bought over the Corgi name and diecast rights from Master Collector/Corgi International some parts were left with the original company.Hornby will only be producing diecast models anything else is up to the original company whose track record with marketing is to put it mildly poor ad whose shares were selling just before the Hornby deal at 26 pence. They were stung badly with the Golden Compass toys and are getting out of the model business as they have found that movie licence models are not guaranteed sellers. With the masters produced they may appear at some stage but I would guess NOT from Corgi.

so to sum up you can't see corgi producing Bond replicas but you are confident Master replicas will still release there Bond props ?

But I was under the impresion it was a joint effort by Corgi and master replicas... or was corgi just lending them the licence and putting there name on the box.. so to speak..
  • sniperUKsniperUK UlsterPosts: 594MI6 Agent
Corgi and MR were both owned by Corgi International, Hornby bought the Corgi name and the diecast part of the business from them for the bargain price of £5 million and are now producing the diecast range (I believe they have the rights to still produce the diecast JB cars).Hornby also own Scalectrix and have the rights to produce the QoS racing sets so some JB licences are with Hornby. MR still I believe hae the rights to produce the replicas and the figures as Hornby only bought the diecast part of Hornby but Corgi International /MR (Hong Kong based and going to change name from CI)are so strapped for cash they can not afford to enter large scale production of any range so at present I think the figures will not see the light of day unless another company buys the rights and the molds.
If you lok here you will see just how bad the CI/MR situation is with shares now at 62 cents

    Hi sniperUK,

Thanks for sharing this info with us. Was the plan that the cancelled Bond figures line would be produced by Corgi or by MR? You wrote that MR has the rights to produce the replicas and the figures. I thought MR only produces propreplicas.

I hope you can tell me. I am very curious. Thanks and greetings.
