Hi there everyone in need of some help with this half finished project...

I Partly built a replica of the famous JET PACK / Rocket belt from THUNDERBALL

I have parts and bits built etc ... all hanging up in my garage ,,,

I started this project some time ago but cant continue without a major part

can anyone suggest a good object / alternative to use for the 3 tanks on the back .....

please anyone i can finaly finish it with some help

I was thinking of empty scuba tanks but they are only rounded at the top ..

PLEASE PLEASE.... once i perfect a ptototype I can make replicas for anyone who wants one...

I am making it so it can be brocken down into parts and clicked together and worn in seconds..also makes it easier for posting... as a kit so to speak...

I haven't paid much attention to the jet pack in many a year, but you could try using liter sized soft drink bottles.

thanks a lot for all those links i have seen some of them but some I havent great information very interesting... I have sourced the back suport / seat shape for my replica....

    starting to take shape...

I have decided to use plain lightweight plastic piping for the tanks.... and do a bit of fabrication to round them at each end...

also found some great fixtures and fittings...

thanks again 7289 you are a big help

Good man. as soon as the replica is finished I will give you the first sneak peak... pm me your email some time...... thanks again

LOL i wish ... I must admit I would jump at the chance of having a go on a real Rocket belt one of my life long dreams...

Probibly would be a bit .... nervous at first ...but i thik its something you would get used to ...

as I said thanks again.... I made good progress yesterday on the replica... parts are looking very good.

yes, I am sure, that one would get a bit nervous being 100 meters high and discovering, that the fuel is empty. I is said to last only for seconds.

But I am sure, that you get used to it :D

LOL 30 second is the top amount of time....

the funny thing is in a few of the Bond books about the films etc ... it is claimed you can fly the device for 4 mins..... LOL

I saw the rocket man fly in Glasgow some weeks ago and its just inspired me to make a replica of the amazing device...

My firends Son was talking to the Rocket man.... what a nice guy .... brave the hight he was up when coming into glasgow centre.. ...

He flew over the court house buildings and over some of the cente squares statues.. felt like a recreation from THUNDERBALL when Bond flys over the stag statue...

just amazing the Bell Rocket belt.

Don't know if this is of any interest. I know its not really relevant to your replica, but it looks like you will soon be able to stay in the sky for longer than 30 seconds...

    Scaramanga's Golden Gun:

Here is a photo of a replica jetpack that is at The Bond Museum in Keswick. I understand that this is made with some parts that were donated by Bert Luxford the SFX man who created the replica of the jetpack that Connery used in the film:

Don't know if this might be of any help. I have a couple of other pictures so if you want me to send them to you PM me your e-mail address.

This is a custom made model I fabricated a few years ago. I used plans and screen shots to identify the details. The Bond Doll is about 18 inches tall. Click on photos to enlarge to view detail. George V.

gparamus that is an outstanding model well done, 10/10 JOB ! :007)

do you still have the model, it is very cool indeed

    again well done,

i love the fact that the gun he is holding is the signature
Connery walther air pistol, a very nice detail

    George is a FANTASTIC modeller!!!!
Now he needs to built another one...FULLSIZE...LOL

What he didn't state was that he not only cratch-built the rocketpack but that he scratch-built the Walther LP-53.

George had all the clothing for this figure custom made. This was no "off the shelf" item.

He also has the most complete collection of Bond vehicles on display that I have ever seen!!!

    EXCELLENT WORK!!!!

yes i saw that replica the other night while trawling eBay

looks nice to be honest, I think the guy did a very nice
job making it, If he was located closer to where i stay
I might have thought about buying it, But the 4 hour
drive puts me off a little, and besides I have a
quarter / half finished replica in progress so I
will stick to that for now..... This would look
fantastic in any Bond or film fans collection if
you have the spare cash .. I am sure the guy
will get a sale no problem

Sorry to resurrect this old thread but...

In November, Mrs C&D's cousin is having a fiftieth birthday party with a Bond theme :007) . The wife has banned me from any meaningful fancy dress attempt :# but I'm keen to make an entrance as most of the guests know I'm, ahem, a modest fan of Bond.

So I'm thinking of making a jetpack. :D I've made a few prop-thingies before, and though I lack any real tools, I di have time, imagination and dedication on my side.

What I'd really like to know, is if there's any way to simulate exhaust, maybe using small fire extinguishers or something, which could give a quick burst - and if they can be hooked up to the hand controls. I'm also keen to find out if anyone else has tried to make one (scaramanga'sgoldengun, if you're still reading this, let us know how you got on).

    Knowing the massive amount of talent here, I hope you can help me - any thoughts/tips gratefully received- thank you. -{

On being married to me? :D :)) thanks TP, sadly it's her cousin who's fifty as she's now a bit older than that (willing to trade her in for Eva Green or a jetpack though.)

In at the deep end C&D!!!

While the frame etc wouldn't be too bad, the jet effect would be tricky.

It's usually co2, how about modifying some soda siphon things and triggering them with a Bowden cable mechanism/linkage?

    Thank you MG, that's a great idea! If I only had a fraction of your skills I'd be made up, but it doesn't have to be entirely screen accurate, and the soda siphon things are a great suggestion. -{

I'll post pics, and I promise not to entitle them 'arguably the most sought after Bond prop' :D :))

There really is no need to keep dragging that up. Besides, everyone knows the most sought after bit of merchandise in the Bond world is RM's fake third nippy.

Without wishing to tread on Jeff's toes, I think sparklets would be too small and, although co2, won't develope enough gas for a satisfying cloud or jet efflux effect. From experience, long story from Iraq, a couple of 2kg co2 extinguishers would be the minimum I'd go for, these also have the bonus of doubling for the side cylinders of the Jet Pack. eBay have loads of suitable examples at fairly reasonable prices. One word of caution though with co2, make sure you don't touch any of the active pipe work during discharge or for about 10 minutes after, otherwise you will lose the skin of whichever body part touches the pipes. Good luck and as always ...... Pics pls
