Joe Biden = Bond Fan?

So I was reading the coverage of the Obama-Biden (Joebama?) announcement yesterday in the local paper and in the photograph that accompanied the article I recognized a VERY familiar watch. It seems that Biden was wearing the Omega Seamaster Professional...AKA The Bond Watch.

So you think he's a forum member? haha.

Hmmmm. I hate to say this, but just the mention of a political figure might get this topic closed.

Well, truth be told...I am voting for the other guy. But my tongue in cheek question had more to do with what Biden's motivation was to buy the Seamaster. Perhaps the post would have been more appropriate for the collecting forum.

It is well known that John Kennedy was a huge fan of Fleming's work. He read all of the books, had a private screening of a movie and even read some Fleming the night before he was assassinated.

I was just wondering if the Bond phenomena had factored in to Biden's purchase. Hence the pondering of whether or not he a forum member.

    That's all folks.

No, just mentioning a political figure will not get the topic closed. If the topic turns into a partisan slugfest, though, it will get the boot. So, without telling anyone who I plan to vote for, I'll say that just wearing an Omega Seamaster doesn't automatically make someone a Bond fan--but it does usually mean he has more money than the rest of us!

I noticed this too! I posted the exact same query on chronocentric.com the other day!

Bond fan or not, I thought it was nice to see a politician with a little taste. God, I'm sick of seeing politicians wearing timex's, cheap gaudy ties that aren't even knotted properly, and shapeless sack suits.

A agree. How many times do we have to see a Timex or Casio strapped to the wrist of a prominent person wearing a suit who is trying to come off as the "everyman?"

The tie thing is funny. I grew up in Milwaukee and Don Nelson who coached the Bucks in the late 1970's to mid 80's was famous for his wearing of the Ralph Marlin fish tie...I don't recall his watch of choice though.

I'm going to have to look closer next time. I missed the watch on his arm. I've only known one person in my life to own an Omega. Can't remember if he was a Bond though. I've inquired about a Omega at a Jewlery store to. Let's just say I'm happy with my $20 Timex.

Not only does Joe Biden share the same watch as James Bond, but the same initials. Hmmmmm, the plot thickens. :v This guy could earn my vote just by similarity to Bondness.

That's right, he also has the same initials as Jacques Boitier, so maybe he is a SPECTRE agent in disguise ? :))

I don't know about that...I think I would rather spend some quality time with Agent Triple X (Anya Amasova) rather than Deca X.

Incidentally, I actually met Agent Triple X about 10-15 years ago at Summer Fest in Milwaukee. Ringo was playing in town with his All Star Band. She was probably late 40's early 50's and still looked great.

Of course,we're all aware that the real James Bond watch is the Rolex.Bond chose this particular watch in part due to its weight and its large face---because 007 could easily convert it into a weapon.Ian Fleming occasionally had James Bond use it against his opponents as a knuckle duster.;)
