may I suggest to differentiate the QoB section:

    QoBs = Quantum of B******s
    QoBt = Quantum of B******t

I know, that it boils down to the same thing (= QoS sucks) but if we as the best board on the net aren't precise, who else is?

'Daltonite,' 'Daltonism,' and 'QoBs' have all been added.

That should do it for the Quantum of Solace insults, ;) since no other Bond film has earned such an entry in the glossary...and some certainly deserve one...I'll get to work on it :v

may I add to the precious formula:

To my taste, it should read like: "Bond confronts the villain in the villain's lair, the villain unveils his plans in extent and fails to kill Bond at the spot by putting him in onto a higher level of danger. Bond escapes and ultimately triumphs.

    can we add

    casual audiences

    to the glossary?

That term is usually used by fans of the "hard edged" approach to the cinematic Bond role to look down on people, who enjoyed the lighter interpretation of the Roger Moore age - means that these groups can't be "serious" Bond fans.

How about "Car-Centrism" and "Bond-Centrism" within the now-incredibly-long James Bond Car Collection 1/43 scale model car partwork?

A "Bond-Centric" (also "Bond-centric") is someone who cares more about the dioramas, figures, and overall look regarding faithfulness to the film than with actual details of the car. A "Car-Centric" (also "Car-centric") is someone who focuses on just that: the car, its details as to how it would match up against the real automobile, and very little else.

When publishing company G.E. Fabbri offered just 40 cars made by diecast modelmaker Universal Hobbies in the beginning, these terms did not exist. This is because most of the models were considered both well-detailed and played large roles in the films.

The terms, although not expressed as such, began showing themselves around the 60's in terms of issues. A car would show up, look quite disappointing, appease the less gear-headed amongst Bond fans due to its diorama, but would generally turn off those who had more of a model car mentality. An early example of this was the poorly-done, almost-cartoonish 1964 Ford Falcon Ranchero, as seen in GF, but which had a very good diorama.

As the issues passed into the 80's, Universal Hobbies' models began to sink in terms of quality. When the infamous Issue 89, the Ford Anglia from DN that belonged to Commander Strangways, came around, it was quite poor. So poor that G.E. Fabbri brought in another company to test the waters: Ixo.

A division of Premium Collectibles & Trading Co., or PCT, Ixo has a superb reputation for making "car-only" partworks with very good attention to detail as well as lines such as Ixo Classic (older road cars), Ixo Museum (pre-WWII vehicles in beautiful detail), Ist Models (Cars from the East Bloc and Yugoslavia), and PremiumX (Cars made of resin and of VERY high quality). Yes, they may get something wrong here or there, but they usually do really try.

The first few Ixo models for the series displayed almost no effort whatsoever on their dioramas and mysteriously lacked figures and even representations of people. In the mid 90's of Issues, Universal Hobbies' quality had deteriorated to the point where there was almost certainly a conflict between U.H. (Universal Hobbies' common abbreviation) and G.E. Fabbri. As such, Ixo quickly took over.

For issues 99 and 100, Ixo gave us figures. But they disappeared afterwards. For Issue 101, Universal Hobbies put out arguably their best model, Auric Goldfinger's iconic Rolls-Royce Phantom III Sedanca de Ville. And from there, their model quality fell apart. Ixo, meanwhile, haphazardly attached its models to its dioramas with black plastic holders that often lifted the model off the ground! However, the model itself was truly stunning in its detail. And this is where "Car-Centrism" vs. "Bond-Centrism" truly became an issue.

The Ixo model cars sold extremely well on the secondary market, though whether Bond fans were buying them seemed questionable. Ixo, fully intending to profit off of these cars, also revealed that the moulds they were using would go to PremiumX, their 1/43 resin car series, or alternately to their monumentally successful partworks in the former East Bloc. All of a sudden, Ixo's cars were "boring" to the Bond-Centrics because of the lack of diorama quality. To the Car-Centrics, they were wonderful models of neglected cars. The flashpoint was obviously Issue 104: the ZIL-117, a Soviet-made short-wheelbase limousine briefly depicted in CR.

Modellists from the East Bloc with little interest in Bond as well as Car-Centrics interested in seeing little-known models that had heretofore been neglected called the car "the best ZIL model we've seen". Sure enough, Issue 61 of the Russian, Ukrainian, and Byelorussian Partwork "USSR AvtoLegende" (USSR Auto Legends) was the exact same ZIL-117 (albeit with different number plates). To date, the former East Bloc hobbyists usually put it in the series' top 10 or even top 5 cars. Bond-Centrics, on the other hand, were very nearly aghast. The car had been on screen for about 30 seconds, never moved, and if one examined the movie car closely, it had whitewall tires, solid (non-spoked) hubcaps, and no radio. The model had the far more common (in real life) black tires, spoked wheels, and beautifully detailed radio antenna.

Although the following Issue, 105, the 1964 Ford Country Squire Station Wagon seen in GF, was in general well-received by everyone for its faithfulness to the movie in the extreme as well as its neglect as a model and US hobbyists' overwhelmingly positive reaction to it, Issue 106, the 1959 Ford Consul seen in DN, was heavily criticized by the Bond-centrics because it was "boring". Car-Centrics didn't quite take the same position as with the shockingly-well-done ZIL-117, but they also defended the car and pointed out only two minor flaws.

Issue 107, Universal Hobbies third-to-last model thus far, was a very poorly-done-in-all-areas Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow II, which did show that Bond-Centrics and Car-Centrics still did share more common ground than one might think. But Issues 108 and 109 (i.e. the ones we're on now) have renewed the debate.

Issue 108, crafted by Ixo, was a superb model of a 1972 Ford Econoline Club Wagon minibus with the rare, optional sliding door added as a feature. The only problem is that the vehicle it was supposed to be representing was a 1971 Ford Econoline Club Wagon with conventional double side doors from DAF (Dr. Metz's vehicle). Sure enough, however, PremiumX had planned a '72 Econoline Club Wagon a while in advance. Although the model was initially lauded, attitude toward it became very lukewarm, though not outright cold because hey, it fooled everyone, didn't it (and the '71 and '72 Econolines are almost identical in every way)?

The 1973 Chevrolet Impala Custom Coupe featured in Live and Let Die, looked upon in the United States with much nostalgia as the last Impala to bear the status of "muscle car"; that is, with the enormous 454 cid Turbo-Jet V8 that put out 245 horsepower (quite a bit more if you opted for fuel injection) and could indeed, as Sheriff Pepper put it "[go] nandy-fahve, minnymum". To many, it was just a big American boat of a car. But to many others, it represented something truly historic. A guy I deal with on eBay, since I'm in the United States, told me one of his other customers had said he'd known little of James Bond, but that getting the "last Impala with balls" was imperitive. Though this model got a so-so reception amongst the Bond-Centrics, it was a smash-hit amongst 1/43 modellers in general.

With the recent release of a list of cars most likely to be done either all but one or possibly all but two by Ixo, the Bond-centrics are disappointed because no one is guaranteed figures or halfway decent dioramas and it really looks like G.E. Fabbri is aiming for the Car-Centrics. This is likely because there have been no figures or even likenesses of named actors in any Issue since 101. The list also focuses heavily on both American and former East Bloc cars as well as Ixo's popular Mercedes-Benz models; i.e. those that sell extremely well on the secondary market. The debate over these new models has not yet even begun, but is sure to be heated, albeit cordial.

A Bond-Centric usually has the following characteristics:
-Diorama and figures (if the latter are allowed...neither Daniel Craig film licensed them and this was taken well) are extremely important. So is the car, but so long as it's true to the movie, it can be more toylike than model-like.
-If a car is really creative and played a minor but memorable role, it usually is accepted (the "Ford Country Squire Exception").
-It doesn't even have to be car. We've seen suggestions like minisubs and DAD's rocket-powered sled. However, the diorama must be good.
-It doesn't have to be 1/43 scale, so long as the diorama is good. If it's poor, then the model is poor and wasn't worth the effort.
-Bond-Centrics do not always collect any other diecast or model car series.

    Car-Centrics have the following characteristics...
-The car is extremely important and must measure up to an example of the real car VERY well. If that's not the exact prop car, then so be it. Car-Centrics are usually tolerable of things like different hubcaps, especially. The diorama and figures are nice, but also secondary
-If a Bond-centric vehicle (i.e. not a car, but still a land-based vehicle) really is creative, well-modelled, and a faithful recreation of what's found in the movie, it's usually accepted. However, the margin for error is next to non-existent. But if something genuinely creative comes along, even if it deviates from the film slightly, it's generally well-received (the inverse of the "Ford Country Squire Exception"; the "Dragon Tank Exception").
-It has to be a car, minibus, van, light truck, or even truck cab. As probably one of the most car-centric individuals involved in the debate, if it's not a car or other small vehicle (or large, but wheeled vehicle), I'm not interested.
-It's has to be in either 1/43 or (if early and large) 1/45 scale, unless it's a subscriber special, in which case it can be in 1/48 or 1/50 scale. These four scales were promised as the only ones in the entire series. Serious deviation from them is not tolerated by Car-Centrics.
-Without exception, Car-Centrics collect some other kind of diecast, resin, white metal, plastic, or zamac model cars; even if not 1/43 scale.

    Hope that gets added!
By the way, are you gonna eat that?

    may I add

"Casual Audiences" or "Casual Bond fans"

Usually used to despise fans who don't enjoy Dalton's performance with the easy explanation that the "grittier" (another AJB glossary term??) tone from the Dalton Bonds is not understandable for people who don't understand so much about Fleming and Bond - as they obviously can't get over the fact that Moore is not Bond anymore.
