Finished Casino Royale. I hadn't read it before. Much like the golf scene in Goldfinger, the gambling scene in Casino Royale was - to a degree - lost on me. I thought it got rather slow towards the end, and was a bit anti-climactic, but overall, it was an enjoyable read.
I have read in a total of 3 full books and 3 an half sortstories and curently up to the second last chapter of Thunderball. So far all the books have been very good. B-)
The books and short stories I have read are:
>Dr No
>Goldfinger
>Devil May Care
>Thunderball (Almost, and it is an awsome book )
>Quantum of Solace (Short story)
>The Living Daylights (Short Story)
>Octopussy (Short story)
The next book I plan on reading is either Diamonds are Forever of OHMSS. -{
"Oh look! Parachutes for the both of us! Whoops, not anymore!"
"You see Mr Bond. You can't kill my dreams. But my dreams can kill you!"
"Time to face destiny."

I made tried to make an effort and read them in order, Casino Royale, but I skipped to Moonraker, then went back to LALD.
Tried Diamonds are Forever, but it kind of petered out a bit.
Recently been reading books as i get them.
Oh, I have a sort of tradition, I take Casino Royale on the train when I'm at a job interview. I have 3 copies. One I got free with Mens Health magazine (which is why i bought it), one from the Times giveaway last year and one with the smae cover I just got .
I bought most of my books on the cheap from a place called Abbey Books in Paisley. If your ever in Paisley, it is worrth a look. I got a few Gardners too.
My plan is too get all of the Fleming books witht the sexy, 50's style cover.

OHMSS is a great book. DAF....Hmmm, It's ok. I kind of lost momentum with it. It happened first time I read Casino too, but the momentum built up during the gambling scenes. it was a breeze after that.

Well that's good because I got my hands onto a copy of OHMSS, up to chapter 14 now, and so far the build up has been getting stronger and stronger, and I feel very soon the story will launch and get to the exciting bits! (Not that the build up is bad though, vital part of the story).
Anyway, next, I'm going to buy You Only Live Twice from Angus and Robinson to complete the whole Blofeld thing, and then I am going to buy TMWTGG. It's all good so far!

Finished For Special Services. Found the first three-quarters good, but the last quarter let it down, I feel. It was easily 70 pages too long. I'm going to plough on with Icebreaker, though.
I've just finished reading the young bond series and have enjoyed them a lot.:) I especially like they way he links certain things with the main series. It's hard to decide on a favourite as they are all good in their own way I hope the series continues.

I'm currently reading Live and Let Die.. just finished Casino Royale this week. I'm really enjoying the read except for Fleming refering black people as ¨Negroes¨ but still a thrilling book. I bought the entire Fleming collection on ebay (with the exception of Octopussy and The Living Daylights) and I'm reading them in order to see the evolution of the Bond character.

Absolutely the best way to do it. I envy you the experience of a first read B-)

I second that. {[] I made the mistake of rushing into them too quick and started with Goldfinger and Dr No.
I am up to TMWTGG at the moment. I like it so far, but with the end of YOLT, I thought it was a bit droopy and kind of slow with the whole memory loss, not like Bond at all.
Anyway, I am really excited to start Casino Royale when I'm done. I can't wait to see where it all started.

I, too, started with Dr. No! Quite different from the earlier books; more exotic and fantasy-oriented. It's to the book series what Goldfinger was to the film series.
"The secret agent. The man who was only a silhouette..." -- Ian Fleming, Moonraker
1) The Spy Who Loved Me 2) On Her Majesty's Secret Service 3) GoldenEye 4) Casino Royale 5) Goldfinger
Moonraker - Not as thrilled with it after the 3rd or 5th reading but the first half is excellent.
Finished this today and the end of the book is fantastic as well, the middle left me cold when Bond first arrives at the launch site until the beach scene is pretty tame. On to DAF.
Good! Hopefully you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Diamonds is quite the read... while the horse race -- I'm ashamed to admit -- went in one ear and other the other for me, there is a lot about this one that works. Namely Wint and Kidd, who come across as very creepy, rather than campy (like they were in the movie), and the villian, Seraffimo Spang, who resides in a mock-up Western town. And the climax aboard the ship plays out more like a scene from Casino Royale than anything.

Just finished Live and Let Die.... much more action-oriented than Casino Royale but less addictive.. still a good read... I'm now over Moonraker. I've got still a lot to read... I now have all Fleming's novels and I'm bidding at ebay for Colonel Sun.. hope I win !!

Last Fleming I read was For Your Eyes Only, where, coincidentally enough, I just stopped short of finishing the "For Your Eyes Only" short story itself. I've been meaning to pick it up again but haven't found the time to do so with studies-et-al getting in my way. Also, I like how Canada is a setting in the story... they should have done this in the movie!
"From A View to a Kill" is interesting enough and absolutely nothing like the film companion (with the exception of having Paris as a location). I found the secret base of operations in the forest kinda cool, but aside from that it's nothing special.

In many ways I like it more than the film and rue how the movie seems to miss out on stuff that surely would have been great. In particular the biological warfare aspect is fleshed out more with admittedly a lot of exposition before the final assault on Piz Gloria, but it works well as a contrast between the action. In the film it seemed a bit odd and gruesome and there should have been some comment earlier on, a reference thrown in to turkeys at Christmas, so it doesn't come out of the blue. Like the mention of the failed harvest in The Wicker Man.
Of course the is he or isn't he Blofeld angle adds a bit of suspense missing from the film. It would have been great to get a method actor in who could have changed the way Blofeld does between films. Though it wouldn't have worked to follow on from TB as we don't actually see him in that movie.
Finished DAF yesterday, moved to pass Moonraker for the first time on my list really enjoyed it more. Currently reading FRWL, so far it is excellent as always.
Comments
So far I'm loving it. Much better than the movie, same as Moonraker was.
