How strange, i've just started re-listening to my bond audio books and have listened to octopussy and am up to chaper 8 of moonraker. I must be syncing up with the goup psyche, as I haven't looked at this section of the fourum for a couple of months!
At this moment, I'm currently re-reading 'ICEBREAKER', and getting the urge to buy a SAAB 900 turbo (in silver). Sadly, I havn't got a HK P7 to shoot the bad guys, but hey. I'll stick to my CO2 powered PPK.
Plan to soon start for the first time Colonal Sun (1st edition) been looking forward to it, heard allot of good things.
Tell me what you think. There is one theory that Amis wrote TMWTGG.
Will do, havent started it yet but, plan to by august, and i've hear dof that theory mysellf it should be a interesting read!
Finished colonel sun in the summer, really enjoyable book, definetly try & get you're hands on it if you havent already!
Loved the fight scene in M's house, totally amazing and iconic! Anyone else think that they should use this story line for the next movie? but, instead of the original outcome M should get killed and thus, they get a much needed replacement. My money is on Harry from Spooks/ Mi5.

Finally, after four years, I've finished reading FRWL. ) Certainly better than the film. Now, what one to read next...

Just finishing up John Pearsons James Bond the authorized Biography - An amazing book, starts off as a bio and ends with a new mission. Its worth keeping an eye out for.

Love Sebastian Faulks (especially Birdsong), but Devil May Care is ridiculous. The tennis game is a cheap pastiche of the golf in Goldfinger. It could have been written by a smart computer programme.
im new to the bond novels, is devil may care 1 of the short stories? alot of talk about it here
No, it's a full-length novel by Sebastian Faulks ("writing as Ian Fleming"), published in 2008 to commemorate Fleming's 100th birthday. Look for "Devil May Care Reviews" in this forum and you can get a sense of how AJBers reacted to it.
I've just started re-reading CR. Already about 90 pages in. Great read! We really get an insight into Bond's sophisticated lifestyle and expertise as an agent. Fleming was quite clearly in his element.
Have just finished the first thirteen chapters of From Russia with Love. I was going to save it for reading material on an upcoming flight to Melbourne, but James Bond literature deprivation kicked in...
I thought about picking up Live and Let Die but decided not to. I'm waiting for Carte Blanchee to arrive from merrie olde Englande. Any day now.

The top 7 Bond films: 1) Dr No. 2) From Russia With Love. 3) Thunderball. 4) On Her Majesty's Secret Service. 5) For Your Eyes Only. 6) The Living Daylights. 7) Licence to Kill.
I'm reading Scorpius by John Gardner. Only 3 chapters in, so far it is okay, but I think only the first few Gardner books are good reads.
If you are reading Gardner's books at the moment, I would also recommend the following, which in my opinion are as fast moving and as good as the first three:
No Deals Mr Bond
Win, Lose or Die
Death is Forever
WLoD is unique in that Bond goes through the whole adventure without drawing a single piece of equipment from Q Branch. There are also plenty of twists and turns. Enjoy!

I've only just started this too....will have to find time to finish it quickly...I much prefer reading Bond books over a short period (I'm not normally the fastest of readers ) )...I find that helps in the understanding of the novel...
Not sure about elsewhere but every review I've read so far about CB has been negative.....Jeffery Deaver was on the Sky Arts channel over the weekend - from the Hay Book Festival - it was only a short inteview, but okay...
The opener is a cracker, good stuff. It is possible to nitpick Deaver's writing, though it's superior to anything else of his I've read. In the middle of an exciting chase, it's not really helpful or necessary to specify that Bond's sunglasses are Oakley sunglasses, it's intrusive, like the shot of the Omega during Mathis' death in QoS.
But it is well thought out and there's is an oddly comfortable feeling of settling down with a Bond novel. It feels authentic. I'm not sure all the research always helps Deaver's creative flow, like I say there are snags, but so far I'm enjoying it.
I'm reading CB, too, the £5 version.

This is something I want to ask JD when I meet him in Amsterdam next week. Did he receive a carte blanche to choose the brands he wanted Bond to wear/use, or was he obliged to use the brands the publisher/IFE wanted to use. ie Product placement in books...

I'm currently reading Death Is Forever by Gardner. Its been a long time since I have read it. On first read years ago I wasn't overly fond of it. This time I'm enjoying it.

I read this one for the first time recently and rather enjoyed it although it is a bit of a rehash of No Deals Mr Bond. One of those Gardner books which is nothing amazing, but an enjoyable read if you're in the mood.
Now I must get round to reading Carte Blanche sometime...

I'm already half way through Moonraker so not bad going I guess.
I think I read Casino Royale when I was about 17 and found the card game incredibly boring at the time.
I'm now 30 and I found the whole book a lot more understandable and exciting!

I'm only a couple of chapters in but thats exactly what I thought....and it reads like a better Gardner novel...which isn't bad...
Be careful Nap....you don't want to end up with the QoS - DSOAP version of CB.... )

Me too! I've not even bought it yet!
