I picked up the Brooks Brothers shawl collar cardi today - $148.00 plus an additional 30% off through the 29th!

It may be dark navy but it is a great fit. I think it's a good substitute for the Magnoli at about 1/2 the price, but act fast if you want one as there are not many left! Large and XL on the site but retail stores may have other sizes...

Anyone have pics of the new one from Zara? I ran into my nearest Zara briefly the other day and didn't see one (although I didn't have too much time to spend looking, either).

I cant speak to the other Cardigans mentioned in this thread, but having scoured the internet for quite some time I have reached the conclusion that the easiest albeit not cheapest approach is to have one made by Magnoli. It will have the perfect fit right of the box and will be an excellent additon to one's fall wardrobe. And contarary (spelling?) to popular belief a cardigan doesn't have to look "old". In my opinion an old cardigan and fashionable one is defined by the fit of the garment. (That being the closer/tighter fitting will have a much more contemperary and fashionable look) Check out Steve McQueen rockin the cardigan for a great example of the shawl cardigan in action. Its a timeless piece!!

Is the discount only at stores? I just took a look at the web site and there is no sign of a discount. And they want $49.99 to ship internationally! For me, it makes the Magnoli MTM and colour matched product look like pretty reasonable.

Sometimes you hunt around forever looking for the bargain, and I do.

And sometimes you realise youve just got to pay the man the money and get what you want.
Dont wait for your ship to come in. Swim out and meet the bloody thing.

To me, time is money! I know I've spent countless hours seaching the internet and burned through many gallons of gas driving around town, hunting for that perfect item. When I saw Magnoli's cardigan and the very modest price (and the fact that it's made to the buyer's specs), I was sold. Why bother hunting for "close enoughs" when this is it? It doesn't get any closer for the price, plain and simple. Anyone who buys one of Tony's cardigans won't be disappointed. Just my two cents, of course. :)

    Kind regards,
    Craig

Just a quick tip to anyone looking for the Zara cardigan in the UK.

I went into my local store and couldnt see one on display. Asked the assistant if they had any and low and behold they had all sizes in the stock room.

Ive no idea why they were not on display.

Bought one for £45 and it fits lovely. But I think they sizes are on the small side. I wear a medium (40' chest) and I had to get a large.

After 12 pages, what is actually stil available? Is the zara still available or the only and best option is now Magnoli?

There is a Zara one but it is different than the one I bought which is 100% cotton...I believe the newest one has pockets (YAY!) but is made of itchy acrylic/wool (BOO!).

I read earlier that the Tom Ford was made of Merino wool (which I love!). Maybe Magnoli could do a version in Merino wool? We would need more information on the exact fabric used by Tom Ford.

Also, are the buttons on Magnoli and Tom Ford identical? Those are the only things that would make the replica as good as the $1,800 original. I think that it would solve everyone's problem, wouldn't it?

EDIT : About the shades (or sunglasses, I don't know what you say in UK). I found 4 different models on eBay. The blue lenses, which seems to be the more popular, but on EVERY screenshot from the movie, they seem grey or black. So which model should I buy?

I had a chance to break out the Lacoste version I bought, last weekend and the Rolex 24 hour race in Daytona. Not a match but not something I would have purchased if not for Bond...and you guys!

You should go with matte silver with blue lenses.

I think it's my favorite alternative. It's not the best screen-accurate, but I love it. He really is beautiful.

If you don't mind the logo I think this is a good alternative.

I like it's shape. It's not exactly like in the movie but I like it it a different way, but as much nothing less. Except the logo.

    Hi everyone,

I've been following this thread with great interest and it is very informative with regards to the awesome shawl cardigan DC was sporting in QOS. I've searched around a lot of stores here in my area (Club Monaco, Banana Republic, Zara, etc..) and can't seem to find exactly what I'm looking for. From what I've read here, my last two options are JCrew and Magnoli clothiers.

Does anyone have a preference between the two, or an opinion as to which one is the better quality product? I'd like to have some feedback before making a final decision.

Thank you all for your help and time,
    CHL

Hi and welcome to the site, great username. McQueen is one of my favourite actors but I've not seen Cool Hand Luke yet.

Sorry I can't help with commenting on either the JCrew or the Magnoli.

    007 and a half,

Shame on you! "Cool Hand Luke" is with Paul Newman, not Steve McQueen. :o But I'll let it slide as they were both phenomenal actors who epitomized that era in Hollywood - the era of cool. B-)

As for the cardigans, my vote's for the Magnoli. In my opinion, it's the closest thing you'll get to the real TF at a fraction of the price.

    Kind regards,
    Craig

I think that Magnoli's cardigan is overpriced. It does not have the same shape (the collar is different).

And the original was made out of merino wool.

There may be a few subtle differences, but I feel that Magnoli's replica is the closest you can get to the original Tom Ford cardigan, without having to sell a kidney. Also, consider that it is the only replica of the cardigan that you can get made-to-measure, which not even Tom Ford does. If you can afford it, I think Magnoli's replica won't disappoint.

EDIT: For those looking for a shawl cardigan with a bit more pizzaz, Ralph Lauren has a very nice red & black merino wool one that was worn by Team USA for the 2010 Winter Olympic Games: http://www.ralphlauren.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3829853&origkw=shawl+cardigan&kw=shawl+cardigan&parentPage=search

They're $150 each, with only Small & Medium sizes left in stock.

Yeah, I think it's the closest too. But ask him to make it in merino wool.

Hi everyone and thanks for the warm welcome. I very much appreciate all the suggestions. In the end, what I'm going to do is check out Jcrew this weekend and see if I like what they have to offer. If it doesn't pan out, I'll order from Magnoli. After all, with a four to six week delay in obtaining the garment, a few more days of delay won't matter :)

    Thanks again,
