Just got the cardigan from Zara in Vienna. Paid 39 euro for it but be careful and make sure you get the one with the exact article number quoted previously. Zara has many cardigans at the moment with shawl collars, all looking very similar and with similar numbers. 100% agree with changing the buttons to leather ones (as on a tweed jacket). The cardigan comes with horrible brown plastic ones.
you said that zara makes many cardigans very similar too the TF? The store near me in USA does not have the one mentioned in this article, but they say they have others that are close? wondering if anyone can verify this and if they could also provide some style numbers. I obviously live in the states and have been having an awfully hard time trying to track down a cardigan....jcrew isnt the correct one, can't get marks and spencer, and zara doesn't ship. Any help would be more than appreciated.
Was in Zara this evening and saw the one in the photo that was posted (i.e. the one closest to the original) and 3 others of very similar appearance-can't remember the article number but one of the others ened in 801 istead of 800. Anyway, one that was similar was in either grey or dark blue (with shawl collar) the other was also in black but the wool was not so fine. Just out of interest the Zara cardigan is made in Bangladesh. It doesnt seem to be in much demand in Vienna, I was in 2 of their stores and only one said they were selling it.
Just to add some more info to my last post. Looking at the label on the Zara cardigan it has european, usa and mexican sizes. for those of you in the usa, maybe looking at zara mexico is an option?

Mike,
Any chance you can pick up and ship one of these cardigans to us in the USA?
Having searched all over the web, I have come to the conclusion that for fans in the UK the M&S cardigan is the closest to Bond's. The Zara one seems to have a smaller collar.
However, according to the M&S website, they are out of stock on the black! Can that really be sold out due to Bond fans I wonder?????

My wife bought me the M&S cardigan today from the Swindon store.
So the online site may be out of stock but there are examples in the real stores right now.
I'm 6ft 44L and the XL fits great.
To think just a little while ago browsing through the M&S site for a cardigan was considered to be "old fashioned"
Still, role on Thursday when it will get it's first outing with my Hugo Boss white shirt (Tom Ford?? big rip off)
I don't believe it! Who said perseverance didn't pay off!
Just managed to bag a MEDIUM from the M&S website. The autogaph cotton blend at £35 (less the 20% discount). Hope it fits as it seems to be the last one. Any other fans bought this and can let me know the sizing then please PM me.
I am so happy! {[]

I almost ordered one from the website myself yesterday -complete with discount -but then with the £3.50 delivery charge -I thought I wasn't really getting 20% off -so I popped in to my local M&S this morning and bought one in size small -the medium was way too big for me -and the small is the perfect size. I'm well chuffed with it. It looks great -plus I did get the full 20% off. I couldn't be happier!
OK then, that was the weirdest night, me and my girlfriend travelled all the way to Salisbury to see QoS tonight, traffic was terrible so we missed the film but the shops were open for late night christmas shopping. Went into M&S just to check on cardigan and lo and behold they had a whole rail of them. Bought the Medium, looks amazing with a white shirt. How ironic was all that !!!
Sorry if this has already been posted, but I was looking in topman the other day and saw a cardigan that looked just like it in red. So I looked on the website when I got home and... lo and behold... there it was! It looks EXACTLY like the bond one, and it's only £65. If you're still not willing to stretch, there's an equally nice one just with a slightly different collar in the same shop for £40.
the topman one seems to be very accurate. I'm trying to get my hands on a Zara one and if i cant ill have to go the topman route. For $100, i dont know anything about topman's quality. Anyone?
The Top Man one is overpriced for the quality of clothing at that store.
Yep I agree, that item should be around £35/45, definitely not more than £50 - so £65 is pricey - considering Marks and Spencer which is 137 times better quality can do it for £35 (or £28 if u were lucky enough for a discount). I'd even rate Zara 97 times better than Top Man and they do it for £29.99.
The Topman is nice but is not perfect. The collar is more accurate than the M&S one, but it has pockets which the Tom Ford cardigan does not. This is a big flaw in my opinion. I have the navy blue Gap cardigan that was suggested after CR. It has pockets which is my biggest complaint about the sweater. Pockets add bulk around the middle which is a problem when the sweater is suppsed to be close fitting and trim. Also, the Topman is described as "chunky" and is 50% wool. It seems to me it will be much heavier than the TF and Zara which are cotton. The M&S is at least 50% cotton.
At twice the price of the M&S and Zara and certainly no more accurate, I'm not sure it's the best choice. It would be interesting to hear from someone who actually has one though as that is the real test. Sounds like those who purchased the Zara and M&S are pretty happy with what they received.
The lands end looks to have too many buttons and does not seem FITTED to me...the reason I love my Zara is because of the tailored form it brings to those who wear it...fitted in all the right areas like the TF.

The M&S and Zara options are definitely nice, but not for someone in a size S living in the US.
M&S only has medium now, and - to me - it seems like the ribbed nature of the cardigan is not as pronounced as it is in the Zara, the Topman and the Tom Ford original.
Zara probably carries a S, but it's damn near impossible now for anyone in the US to get a hold of it... with shipping costs, it's also about as expensive as the Topman.
Topman has the ribbing, it's sized in S, and it's readily available. Looks to me like the only option.
They have a few black Zara cardigans in Medium and Large at the Montgomery Mall Zara in Maryland. I'm not sure about the downtown DC location. Also, they have a few XL ones at the Las Vegas Zara. Both locations have M, L, and XL navy ones though. I've not been able to locate the TF shawl cardigan in person at either the Vegas or SF Neiman Marcus locations as of yet, only non-shawl TF cardigans.
the zara in costa mesa, CA has a good amount of cardigans left. The problem is they don't ship!!! Ive spoken to a few managers and they wont make any exceptions simply becuase they dont accept over the phone payment.
One question i have is why the topman cardigan is 65 pounds on the UK site and then $130 on the US one when the current exchange rate should put the US one at about $99. If i can i am just going to order from the UK site.

The TF is wollen not cotton. It has been confirmed to me by the TF brand shop in Milan.
For those looking for the J. Crew ones with pockets, there are about a dozen in black ranging from sizes from M to XL at the Las Vegas J. Crew outlet store. I'm not sure if they ship:

The item code is 66S09TBLK, and I've attached the picture below.
It's a tad on the pricey side at $130 USD, but it looks to be worth the money.
