Bringing back an old topic, but has anyone discovered a suitable substitute for the shawl collar cardigan lately? I'm in the states, so if anyone is aware of any here that would be great.
One would think a standard cardigan such as this would be relatively easy to find but I simply can't find a nice substitute. It would be a great spring piece to add to the wardrobe.
I picked up two nice ones from H&M in Americana at Brand; one black and one navy. They only carry this item in (the few) stores that carry the men's "Black Label" line, so call ahead.
Went to Zara tonight in the UK. They have updated their original shawl cardigan(I think Mantis was pictured in the original). It now has black buttons and two pockets!!! £45.:)
I ordered a Magnoli cardigan on June 24 and haven't received it yet or been sent a shipping notification. I know Tony's extremely busy though, but he always delivers. I'll post a few pics of mine along with a review as soon as it arrives.
Kind regards,
Craig

That's good to know, I ordered mine two weeks after you (July 3), so hopefully I'll have mine buy the end of August. I really wanted it for the fall, so it should arrive just in time. But, after a lousy spring/early summer I'm not looking forward to fall temps. Here's to hoping for an Indian Summer!

Seems nice (except the button color) and not so expensive...
I tried the new Zara cardigan : don't like the fabric (looks shiny)
Yeah, that looks like the original Zara cardy...... I tried on Zara's new version and it was very ill fitting compared to the original one in the same size.
Hi
Had email from Magnoli this evening, has promised Quantum cardigan will be with me next week, assume he will now start shipping the others.
Am off to Italy on honeymoon shortly after and am hoping for a few photo opportunites wearing it !!

I received my Magnoli Quantum cardigan yesterday - ordered on June 24 for those who are awaiting theirs'. I'll post a pic or two tonight when I get home, but upon trying it on and after initial review, it's a great sweater! The weave, fit, and visual comparison to the Tom Ford are top-notch. I had the opportunity to try on a TF cardigan a few months ago, and the thickness/weight is the biggest difference. The Magnoli is much thinner and lighter in comparison, but it's still much thicker than a lot of shawl cardigans on the market now. For the price, it's definitely the best product available. Thanks again for another great product, Tony!

Thanks for the report. Looking forward to seeing the photos.
Here are a couple of pics of my Magnoli Quantum cardigan. I don't anticipate getting to wear this sweater for quite a while as it's currently 90 degrees here in Los Angeles and will be for some time. Ugh!! But I'll take a pic or two inside (with air conditioning) wearing it to give you an idea of how it looks on. Again, I'm very happy with the look and fit of it. Tony did a great job with this one! It is, however, much thinner and lighter than the TF original. For me, that's a good thing though - I don't need such a heavy sweater here in LA.
Lucky you! I ordered and paid for my cardigan on May 21st. 3 1/2 months later and I still have not received mine and I have emailed him 3 or 4 different times, its always in the next couple of weeks that he will send it. X-(
I would ask you if you could remain emotionally detached. But I don't think that's your problem is it Bond?

Mine came yesterday! I wasn't expecting it, so it was a wonderful surprise. Now, I've never been within 100 miles of the Tom Ford original, but I'm very happy with the result. This is also my very first made to measure item. I think it was worth the wait.
If u want a cheap and cheerful shawl collar cardi, nowhere near the original spec, then there is one availabe less than £10 - about 9.79 with the lower VAT.
I went with some friends today to a store called Primark in B'ham New Street to pick up some cheap shorts and T-shirts for our Turkey beach Holiday in a weeks time and saw a black and a grey shawl collar cardigan.
Now i'm not a purist (it doesn't say Mantis on my credit card !!!) so I haven't measured the buttons' area to see if they are the same as the Tom Ford one (is is still pi r squared?).
There's no pockets either and it has 6 plastic buttons and is 100% cotton. So I bought one. It may last 6 weeks or a year. I'm happy at least I had one. end of story.
I may get slammed for this but I find the cardigan rather "old" fashioned looking in terms of style and not very fashion forward.
My girlfriend bought me this Armani sweater which gives a modern spin on the look in case anyone likes the shawl collar style but can't see themselves in a cardigan.
The shawl collar cardigan seems to be everywhere this season !
After Hackett, Zara, Brooks Brothers, and many other fashion shops, I found today 2 new items in french famous clothiers autumn collection : Lacoste (360 €, "heavy" fabric) and Eden Park (250 €, looks better to me...). Not available online, though, so no pictures, sorry...
Received mine from Indy a while ago. It's great, but indeed very warm.
The good thing is that now I won't have to freeze in the winter anymore, because I can wear something different than a Sunspel polo when I want to look like Bond. :v

Also, do you have any pictures? I'd like to see it.

For me it's a good "Bond on a Budget" pick.
Click on the black color choice.

Fortunately (or unfortunately depending on your point of view), the weather here in NE is perfect for wearing the cardigan right now.
