Your week off doesn't seem to have refreshed you, DS!
Actually I needed to execute a good film bashing.
"He’s a man way out there in the blue, riding on a smile and a shoeshine. And when they start not smiling back—that’s an earthquake. and then you get yourself a couple of spots on your hat, and you’re finished. Nobody dast blame this man. A salesman is got to dream, boy. It comes with the territory." Death of a Salesman
FYEO, OP and AVTAK are the worst three for me. All have parts I like, but many things I didn't.
FYEO had Carole Bouquet who was the stiffest Bond girl ever, Lynn Holly Johnson may be the most annoying Bond girl ever and the idiotic fight at the hockey rink complete with goofy sound effects.
OP had Bond in a clown suit, a tarzan yell, and Bond telling a tiger to sit.
AVTAK, had the other most annoying Bond girl of all time in Tonya Roberts, a too old Bond and May Day who is annoying on several levels.

Good question. The problem is FYEO. MR, OP and AVTAK are all time lows in my book (DVD library) But FYEO comes after MR and destroys the line of succession. The Moore films before MR still has a bit of freshness to them, so the they don't qualify. DAD was bad, but still better than most of what Moore did, and the rest of Brosnans films are just pretty good (GE) to pretty bland (the rest). The Connery films dropped in quality as time went by, but they are to far apart in time. Lazenby was in one of the best, and Dalton was a solid Bond. Craig is perhaps the best so far.
I just can't make up my mind, FYEO is just too OK!
I agree with Mo and Dan Same (but not for some kind of AJB grandee love-in )
AVTAK through LTK are not a high mark in the series. No fault of Dalton per se. The whole concept just seemed so dry and earnest at the time. Personally I think John Glen was the root of much of this 80s malaise in the series.
There were plenty of near misses: DAF through TMWTGG (although not so secretly, I love TMWTGG because it's so dated/cheesy), FYEO through AVTAK, and basically any threesome involving DAD in any way.

I know fully well I will get it for this {:), but I would have to say its DN-GF (Prepares for the heavy barrage of criticism from Connery fans ); they haven't stood up to recent revisits.
"Well, he certainly left with his tails between his legs."
Rogers worst IMO, But still good.
FYEO, It is one of my worst Bond film, I didn't like the plot or the Bond girl or villain. To cheesy. OP, Getting better, Could of had a better climax to it and made OP character more 'wow'. AVTAK was very good, But it isnt the best, I liked it a lot, 9/10, Zorin is too underrated he could of been more evil
I like all the 007 films and have trouble criticizing most of them, but I will play this game for fun. I believe the worst three-movie period was YOLT, OHMSS and DAF. First I must say I mean no offense to OHMSS because it is a good film and the strongest of these three, but it is sandwiched by these other two that are in my bottom five 007 films. YOLT is a little campy and OTT. It also had a bad song and a lackluster score even from Barry. DAF is the campiest in the series by far and had some bad editing. Big Sean, and I mean that literally this time, was not into it anymore. But, it still enjoy both YOLT and DAF a lot, but when compared to the first four Connery films they are nothing.
The only other three film period that comes close for me is the most recent one: TWINE, DAD and CR. Believe it or not TWINE is my favorite of these three and I like it alright but all three are in my bottom third. DAD was full of too much CGI and bad dialogue while CR crapped on all of the traditions of the franchise with their stupid "reboot". I am still not sold on Craig. Maybe QoS will change that. DAD was a wrong step in one direction and CR a wrong step in another direction in my opinion. The two middle Brosnan films were alright and we have yet to have a classic Top 5 film since Goldeneye.
But all in all, all these films are special and entertaining in their own way and I don't think we ever had a "dark age" for Bond. If any age was the dark age it was the 6 years from 1989-1995 there were no 007 films! Luckily we had T2, Jurassic Park and The Fugitive to get us through it!
DAF-LALD-TMWTGG. It is hard to find a three film period where I dislike all three since I find the films I don't like are mixed in throughout good films. These three do get successively better, but none of them are among my favourite Bond films and DAF is my absolute worst. Neither LALD or TMWTGG are in my favourite three Moore films.
To my mind, there are two possible candidates for the title of 'worst three-movie period for Bond.' The first would be AVTAK-LTK. The second would be DAD-QOS. Sadly, the second period does not seem to be over yet.

Although I think the first half of TWINE is quality, it's stuck between comfortably the worst Bond film(DAD) and one that isn't far behind(TND), so that trio is a very weak one. The other three that I dislike are MR, FYEO and OP.

Tomorrow Never Dies, The World Is Not Enough and Die Another Day for me too. Nothing overtly wrong with Pierce Brosnan's performances, but he was unlucky never to get a really good script to work with.
Tomorrow Never Dies, The World is Not Enough and Die Another Day. I could not believe how bad DAD was when I first saw it. I remember coming out of the cinema and just feeling so sad. TWINE started well but got worse and worse as it went on.
I really like Pierce by the way. Great actor. I felt sorry for him that in my opinion 3/4 of the Bond films with him in are terrible.
The worst three movie period was LALD, TMWTGG and TSWLM.
It was immediatleuy followed by terrible 4 movie period of MR, FYEO, OP and AVTAK.
Placeholders until JAmes Bond really returned.

Despite general consensus about Moonraker, I appreciate it is a film, not a Bond film. It is often spectacular to look at and it fulfilled the original concept the producers had of making an extravagant film. Often for me that is what a film should be about. Whilst a lot might argue that the overemphasis on comedy was a step in the wrong direction, the desperate attempts to make Bond too serious I think didn't do the series any favours either.
I think seeing North Sea Hijack/Ffolkes with Roger Moore, which came out in the period when he was doing his final Bonds, is simply excellent as almost a proto-action movie concept in both the plotting and the characters a whole decade and a half before such films of a similar premise started to come out following the praise of Die Hard. I prefer this to his latter Bonds.
Octopussy has the best plot at work, but the most bothersome thing is the direction in all of John Glen's films. OP and AVTAK and even TLD still persist on using back projection which makes the films look extremely cardboardy, inflexible and sorely lacking in depth, almost so incompatible of the 80s after Star Wars and inbetween Indy films. There is an air of dreariness in the films, despite virtually all actors concerned putting in a good job. There are some superb characters in Moore's and Dalton's films, and there are some great action sequences, but its just a woeful, almost tearful shame that its not all like that.
Cubby Broccoli mentioned that the Bonds were steered by committee as to how the films are made, but as is evident by these films, its not always a good thing.
NSNA was quite awful, both making it and watching it. It would have been interesting to see if Kevin McClory did make Warhead or whatever it was going to be called as a chance to redeem himself after NSNA and all the legal battles, or at the other extreme, make NSNA not seem so bad.
GoldenEye was the true return and revitalisation of Bond. By the 90s there was enough of the nostagic appeal of the Bonds generated to make 007's return all the more special. The long gap between films helped the series a lot I think, all the while general consensus saying that Bond was best left as an icon of the past. Its tremendously sad that Dalton didn't get the part earlier and/or starred in more films- its incredible that it wasn't until '94 that he actually departed from the role.
This thread seems to polarise fans into those who can't stand the silliness of the Roger Moore era and those who can't stand the clunkiness of the Pierce Brosnan era.
The bottom line for me is enjoyment: I know there are lots of silly moments in the late RM movies, but they still have enough wit, action, glamour and production quality to be enjoyable entertainment. The Brosnan ones, with the exception of GE which I really rate, seem to be poor imitations of Roger Moore's films. It's not Brosnan really, but he got the poorest scripts and co-stars of the whole series, so not even his charming performances can elevate these three off the bottom of the list.
I'd still watch them ahead of most non-Bond films though! (OK, not DAD).
despite some pretty poor movies over the decades, its very hard to find 3 in a row that i think are "the worst"
they tend to come in 1s and 2s.
so I have plumped for the most mindnumbing and dull period, where the franchise trod water and tended to imitate rather than inovate, not all the worst films individually, but taken together a fairly unpraiseworthy trio

Using Loeffelholz's pizza comparison, like it or not, ) I'm a fan of them.

I can understand why you may not be keen, but I bet your dad would love the opportunity )
Wash your mind out young man!
Not even close really
This does not mean that I don't enjoy the films. On the contrary, I enjoy them very much - but they just aren't my favourites.
For me it would be;
FYEO
OP
AVTAK

Definetely this. I loved goldeneye, but these 3 were rubbish, and they're the only 3 bond films I can't stand to watch again.

Live and Let Die
The Man with the Golden Gun
that trio seems to represent the low point of the series. however LALD is easily the best of the three and actually a personal favorite of mine.
So if i had to pick the worst three in a row it would unfortunately be the last three Brosnan films, although TWINE was actually pretty decent.
and Brosnan was a great 007 so i hate to bag on him.
A View to a Kill has gone from being in my bottom three to my top three. I wish more people could understand how terrific that film is.
1. GE 2. MR 3. OP 4. TMWTGG 5. TSWLM 6. TND 7. TWINE 8.DN 9. GF 10. AVTAK
James Bond- Licence To Kill
