Where is the ramp up in Publicity ?

Is it just me or does it all seem a bit quiet on the advance publicity front? Could just be in the uk, or that I have just managed to miss it, but normally by now we would have had location report features on Movie review shows such a Film 2008. or the Culture show etc and Daniel should have been on everything but Ice.It all seems a bit laid back.

It's building, all right---trailers showing on TV, Daniel Craig scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show this Tuesday night, I think. We've seen tie-in commercials from Smirnoff and some other product as well...so I'd say it's under way, or at least beginning.

There's been a huge QoS banner hanging in front of the local mall theater for about two months now; I've seen commercials for the movie; and my inbox is always flooded with e-mail alerts about QoS. I don't think the publicity department is being that quiet!

    It'll come.

There's some TV specials planned as well as an advertising campain.

Plenty of magazines have carried covers and articles to meet deadlines, but in the main, the big push will happen in the fortnight leading upto release.

Loads of magazine stuff here in the UK, including some car porn in the magazine Octane but I agree no real TV stuff to speak of.

Hey Hardyboy, I'm not the most computer savvy guy in the world. How and where did you get the automatic updates, alerts in your inbox for QoS.

Well, I don't know if this is true for all ISPs, but when you do a news search for certain names and titles, the ISP will give you a message on the results page saying you can sign up to receive alerts on e-mail for your search terms. I simply signed up to receive alerts on the words Quantum and Solace, and voila! No tech savviness necessary.

Here's a nice little chat that Craigger had with the Telegraph:

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/arts/main.jhtml?xml=/arts/2008/10/11/sm_danielcraig111.xml

Sounds like he wouldn't agree that there's been no 'ramp up'...

that was a great read, thanks Loeff...

However...his concern about all things Bond....
I mean, six months a year, six days a week, all you're doing is Bond, all you're talking about is Bond.

well, he's obviously never visited this site then :))

While not exactly QoS publicity, it has been reported by several sites that the full trailer to next year's new Star Trek movie (which will be the public's first real look at the new cast in action) will most likely premiere in front of QoS.

We Trekkies can be a pretty fanatical lot and I wouldn't be surprised if this move helps both films achieve a wider audience as there will undoubtedly be lots of folks who will now be even more willing to pay to see QoS so that they can get a look at the new Trek movie as well.

Here's a link for more info: Trek Trailer In Front of QoS?

Craig's on the cover of the new Radio Times, giving his view on the new film. Well, I can give my view on what I'm like in bed... I'm brilliant, me.... :D

The QoS Smirnoff television spot is a pretty cool ad!

P.S. Craig will on The Tonight Show on Friday night!

Linked over at CBn are some brand spankin' new interviews with Daniel Craig. Topics include Craig's increased fame, plastic surgery, and of course QoS.

Tons of new footage as well!

I think Craig's QoS promotion tour has officially begun!

the new clips are interesting but at the risk of repeating myself the ford ka chase seems very bourne...hmmm...on the plus side arnolds score is different and very guitar based...almost a bit henry mancini...the opera sequence also looks good with some handheld camerawork but the publicity has not got my heart pumping...maybe i will have to wait for dominic west as bond no 7 for that

Indeed things seem to be quite slower to when C.R. was released. I even just heard that Heineken will stick to the tv commercial and a Bond-themed site, and that's it...

Magazine covers are showing more and more Bond from this week on, but it still feels less then 2 years ago. Perhaps because 'they' expect Bond to bring in the box office numbers anyway ?

It always feels less- someone tends to say this every time a film is released. It's not- the memory just cheats slightly; all the publicity from two years ago is grouped together in our memory- it didn't all occur at once.

Judging by the ear pieces on the sunglasses Craig is wearing in the first video - they look like the OP Airman!

Check out the strap on his watch while he's being interviewed - it's a NATO Bond!

We're in uncharted waters - Bond himself is a Bond nerd!

I was listening to the radio this afternoon and I heard the Orbitz travel site is running a "Travel Like Bond" (or something like that) competition where one can win a trip to London. I'd say that ramp is very much in place!

The American opening of QoS is still over a week away, but it's hard to get away from advertising for the film. I'm not making this up--I've had a cable news channel on for about two hours and every single commercial break has had an ad for QoS. Whoever doesn't know about this movie is obviously living in a leftover bomb shelter from the 1950s!

Yeah...one of the few consolations of last night's election coverage was the three-times-an-hour running of QoS trailers...and varied ones at that B-) I'd say the awareness is there...
