That's a damned good list as far as I'm concerned, Andy. Five is such a small number...I'd have to figure out who to bump to #6 and #7 in order to make way for the Beatles and the Who...

I have a few regional (Midwestern U.S.A.) favourites from my schoolboy days that would be up there, as well: Cheap Trick, R.E.O. Speedwagon, Styx...

Actually, twenty is too small a number! B-)

Thanks Loeffelholz. And yes, 5 is far too small a number. Thats kind of the idea. The challenge of narrowing your favorite bands down to 5 is half the fun! I know I really had to think to narrow mine down. There were quite a few bands that barely missed being on my list, such as David Bowie, Gorillaz, Van Halen, Simon & Garfunkel, the Jimi Hendrix Experience, and the Ramones.

A lot of bands picked with a lot of dead guys.

Here is mine, at least for today.

    1 - J Geils Band
    2 - AC/DC
    3 - Fleetwood Mac
    4 - The Who
    5 - The Pretenders

I actually had hard time naming 5, because I couldn't think of 5 that were deserving. A more current band I enjoy is The Killers.

That's what I'm saying. If the limit is five...I've got some thinking to do ;)

Nooooooooooooooo ... you have to leave Duran Duran.I too spent my entire teenage life dreaming that I was going to marry John Taylor. Obviously all he had to do was take one look at me and he'd have been hooked .... my problem was getting him to take a look at me :))

Thanks Mo, what I like depends on my mood, I can listen to Sinatra one day and AC/DC the next. You had a good list too, although I am not big on Steely Dan. I like early Zeppelin (they almost made my list), but some of their later stuff, I didn't care for.

Great list Alex! And like I said before, yeah it is nearly impossible to pick 5. That's the challenge of this thread.
