Direct Sequels

I really like how Quantum Of Solace is going be a direct sequel of Casino Royal. After thinking about for a some time, I think it would be great if the plots of all the new movies were linked (Keyword new, leave the old classics be).

Thinking about it, it could be something that has never before been seen in movie history. A series of movies that continues one large plot, but it is not a trilogy, its a saga that has no clear end. Like a TV show series.

The closest movie series that fits this bill would be the Star Wars series. But they were based off of books, and have run out of episodes. And unless they pull a James Bond and develop their own plots with the main characters, we wont see anymore star wars.

It would be fun to not only wait every 2-3 years for the next bond adventure, but be able to try and discuss which way the plot line will go with the next installment.

What do you all think?

I like the idea of the Films (Like the books which inspired them) being more strongly interlinked than they have been in the past.A direct sequel can create its own problems though, the fact that QoS opens "1 hour" after the end of CR which is explicitly set in 2006 creates a time lapse which will be difficult to sustain long term.
I am aware that there are a couple of handy "get outs" inserted but they are also problematic.
For example it is not clear how long Bond spends recuperating in Hospital, but the fact that the Treasury doesn't express concern about the unpaid monies until after this indicates that it isn't long.Similarly its not clear how long it takes Bond to track down & confront Mr White after Vesper's death but it is clearly still Summer of what is (presumably) the same year.
Admittedly I do not know at this point what sort of timscale QoS takes place over but I do hope that (for the sake of plausibility) that the time lapse between future adventures will approximate to the time lapse in the real world. (As was explicitly the case with YOLT/OHMSS.)

I, personally, would like to see the next Bond based on Devil May Care, using the title too.

As with CR, it could be modernised quite easily and some of the set pieces – Bond and Scarlett parachuting from a plummeting aircraft into a swirling river in Russia – could work well.

It would be great to see Bond dispatch of Gorner on the Seine and to see him decapitate Chagrin on the train. And to see the introduction of the Darko-esque Darius Alizadeh.
This would allow M.G. Wilson and Babs to recreate the feel of the early Connery Bonds without obviously re-filming them.

There would licence to bring back Mathis and Felix (providing neither is bumped off in QoS) too.

I would like to see the next Bond film set in Dubai.

There is so much opportunity for stunning cinematography - the islands shaped like a palm tree, the hotel shaped like a yacht's sail, underwater settings, and now the QE2 is there, there is even a link with British "Establishment"

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as I know Star Wars was written by George Lucas as a screenplay, not as a book. After making the movies between 1977 and 1983 there was a novel based on the movies. After that a lot of novels followed creating new storylines.

This is correct. The original Star Wars movie is based upon an original screenplay by it's director George Lucas.None of the remaining five sequel movies was derived from a novel--all of them were written directly for the screen.

As noted, there have been novelizations based upon the six Star Wars films and plenty of original novels inspired by the film franchise utilizing new and established characters from the movies. But Star Wars did not begin as a series of novels.

Dubai is cool, but it doesnt really mean anything. Its just built up so quickly from oil money in comparison to the feel of say New York.

Yes, but that new money vibe could make a point also. Plus there's that amazing set of a tennis court on top of a skyscraper. Mind you, visually for the next one better to be Moscow and New York imo.
