This is actually a very good idea for a topic - unfortunately for me there are times when an excellent picture is followed by a complete duff (OHMSS followed by DAF). From Russia with Love to Thunderball is consistently superb for me, even though I don't think Goldfinger is *quite* as good as others (it is still *way* above the average flm, though). Creatively this run was possibly the pinnacle of the series. I agree with Danny-Boy above that TSWLM to FYEO was Roger's highpoint, and for me Moonraker is the best of those (I prefer the likes of FRWL or The Living Daylights, however MR is an exceedingly well made and hilarious film). Then again, I watched the 1981 film recently and I have to say hat I was slightly bored midway through, but perhaps that is because I was tired at the time.
In the last two decades or so TLD to GoldenEye was darker and more violent than what had occurred before - overall I think that three-picture run was an enormous success. Timothy Dalton was not 'Fleming's Bond' - more paranoid, twitchy and neurotic - however his interpretation of the character was wonderfully developed and multi-faceted. In fact I think he was a tour-de-force in those two films and held TLD together after it starts to run out of a little steam after the Afghanistan scenes. GoldenEye is a very strong introduction for Brosnan - in atmosphere and general 'feel' it almost seems like a continuation of the Dalton approach. Brosnan acquits himself well, in my view, and Sean Bean makes for a truly menacing opponent.
But who knows? With the massive step up in terms of quality for Casino Royale perhaps a Craig trio could blow all else out of the water (I've not read the reviews for Quantum of Solace).
This topic has made me realise that the series has tended to vary in quality and rarely hits a golden section of three superb movies in a row. I was tempted to go for LTD,LTK & GE but in the end felt compelled to opt for FRWL,GF & TB (although I have doubts about TB and feel that although gtrat GF is not without flaws...)
Good topic though

Mine top three are the first: DN, FRWL, GF. The second best three films in a row is perhaps TLD, LTK and GE. All are flawed in their own way, but good films.
For me, there are two eras that had 3 or more great Bond films...
Era 1...
- Dr. No
- From Russia With Love
- Goldfinger
- Thunderball
Era 2...
- The Living Daylights
- Licence To Kill
- Goldeneye
I agree with the second as these are three of my favourites although the six year gap suggests they are from two separate eras. However as GE was written for Dalton, I think it belongs more with his work than with the drivel that followed.

I am a traditionalist at heart, so I go for DN, FRWL and GF.
They are all consistently entertaining and carry a sense of sinister quirkiness. Plus, they contain many of the most iconic lines and images of the series.
TB is a fun film for the most part, but I find it just sags in the middle with all the underwater stuff. And Sean's syrup is not so convincing.
"Goldfinger", "Thunderball", "You Only Live Twice" and "On Her Majesty's Secret Service" for me. All very different, all outstanding in their own ways - especially "OHMSS", which for me is the pinnacle of the series. That's partly down to Lazenby's performance, which for me is head and shoulders above anyone else's. Maybe it's because he himself was nervous and insecure, but he perfectly captures the essence of Fleming's character: a man overindulging in the finer things of life to distract himself from looking too deeply inside, because he knows he won't like what he sees.

i too will also go with the first three, and as the title says, [or four] i'll will also include thunderball.

License to Kill
GoldenEye
The best set not including any of those three films is TLD-LTK-GE.
Another good one is:
YOLT-OHMSS-DAF = Sean's highpoint, for me (plus, Lazenby's!!)

My favourite four-movie stretch is easily DN-FRWL-GF-TB though
For the purist in me it's got to be DR, FRWL and GF.
But for the unashamed fanboy in me it's got to be
OHMSS, DAF and LALD.
-{ To both my choices.

But I'll have to go for the ones that seem to find a way to my dvd player the most:
TB
YOLT
OHMSS
Era 1...
- Dr. No
- From Russia With Love
- Goldfinger
- Thunderball
Era 2...
- The Living Daylights
- Licence To Kill

GF
TB
YOLT
or
LALD
TMWTGG
TSWLM
Really though, from LALD to FYEO I love every film.
They are all consistently entertaining and carry a sense of sinister quirkiness. Plus, they contain many of the most iconic lines and images of the series.
TB is a fun film for the most part, but I find it just sags in the middle with all the underwater stuff. And Sean's syrup is not so convincing.

FRWL (3rd)
