Magnoli Madagascar shirt

Just came across this today and thought some of you might be interested:

The price isn't too bad either at $150. I'll definitely be getting one.

GREAT find Mr. White. I find that not only very close but also closer to what I can pay. Thanks

    WTF??? How has this happened?

Call me a financial fool, but I'll be honouring the deal I made for the run. I want the best.

Especially as Paul, Simon, David et al have put so much work into it.

In my eyes, this Madagascar shirt by Indy looks spot on to the screen version.

It's like comparing the Magnoli TND tie to the Turnbull & Asser version. And the pattern isn't aligned ;)

And the thread debuts 11 months to the day after the "Madagascar Shirt - The Deal" thread does. This didn't come from left field, it drove slowly toward us from the horizon.

Actually Magnoli is very reliable and represents quality products. His reproductiions are very close to perfection. ie his Armani Leather CR jacket and T&A ties. It is not fair to knock his wear.

Sorry guys, didn't want to upset anybody. I am just as perplexed as anyone about this, as I have been following the whole Madagascar shirt affair from the beginning.
What I meant from my 'exclusivity' comment was the fact that from the beginning, I thought the material was being keep exclusive for reasons of copyright and not to upset EON etc. All reasons that I could fully understand. Now with this Magnoli replica how does that sit with the copyright issue.
And for the same reason I never ordered one of the original shirts, I shan't be ordering one of the replica's - I think it's horrible, But that's my opinion.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before these would show up. Anyone who browses this site would see all the discussions that have gone on about clothes, props, collectibles, etc and a savvy business person sees the potential market. Regardless, I will still honor my committment to purchase the original shirt. Gentlemen, I applaud your work on this project and stand behind you 100%.

I did not knock him in any way. This is not the original material, it is a copy. I have no problem with people buying this copy, but it is exactly that, just as his Armani replicas and Turnbull and Asser replicas are copies.

Unfortunately though, the original material suppliers own the copyright on that particular pattern, and someone might be slightly aggressive in enforcing that copyright.

    Thanks for clarifying that.

It would be nice to see some side by side pics from the 3 shirts. Magnoli's, Paul's and movie still with DC. I would like to see the differences. I am sure we have some Photoshop pros on here. Peace

No problem. Whoever owns pieces of the original 'genuine' material may do as they wish with it (such as making the Maddy shirt or even boxers). Actually copying that material and offering it for sale though does breach copyright. I'm sure that this topic will go down in the annals of AJB history.

    Just to clarify the differences....

Paul has the original material, buttons etc, access to the exact pattern and cut. And the original costumers that worked on the film making it.

Magnolis is a copy of the original material and a copy of the pattern and cut based on film stills. Again, they both have their own markets, but it is just like comparing the Turnbull and Asser original to the Magnoli copy. Close, but with definate differences. That's why you guys always pay more for the T&A versions.

Do you think that Tom Ford might join the party and produce his own Madagascar shirt ;)

Yeah, I actually got an e-mail from Magnoli last night about his Madagascar shirt, but resolved not to post about it here so as not to spoil Paul's deal. I too will honor my original promise to buy a shirt from Paul. I know some people will bow out, but to me being trustworthy is part of what makes a man a man. There is no question that Paul's shirt represents originality and will now be a display piece for me. However, I see Magnoli's shirt as a viable option for wearing.

Obviously Magnoli is well respected but I don't think this should affect Paul's project at all. I think the people on the list wanted to get the exact shirt made with the exact pattern, exact material and by the exact same manufacturer.

Magnoli does make fantastic products but when I had to choose between having the Turnbull & Asser tuxedo shirt or the Magnoli copy, I opted for the original. I remain committed to Paul's project and I expect that others previously committed will continue to do so.

However, for people that missed the boat or were not comfortable with the price, Magnoli presents a new and exciting opportunity.

    Cheers!

Well I'm fully paid up so happy to proceed with Paul's shirt.

I've bought from Magnoli before and the quality has been generally excellent but "my word is my Bond", so as I'm fully paid up I'll proceed with Paul's shirt...

The Magnoli shirt looks good, but it definitely doesn't line up as well as Pauls looks like it does. I'd say its worth a punt for those that can't stretch to the "real deal" but it certainly doesn't look like the same attention to detail has been applied (the placket is not lined up at all)

If I remember correctly these details were not aligned on the other shirt until someone pointed them out ie yoke, placket, pocket.

The fabric is reversed. The hash marks should go from the left shoulder down to the right waist. Hopefully the fabric is double sided because the real stuff isn't.

Other than that and the other mentioned things, it looks pretty good. I'm still getting the other one and $150 is still a lot but it'll be nice to know if it gets ripped on a nail or somthing, you can get a replacement, unlike the other project.

I would not be surprised if you would send a quick email to Magnoli, he would be able to address. I am sure that he has pride in his workmanship and would take the needed corrections seriously.
