It was closely followed by the daring scene from 1977's The Spy Who Loved Me, in which Bond skis off a cliff edge to almost certain doom, only to open a Union Jack parachute in mid air.

To be fair, that Campbell-directed moment really did make me quail, in a 'I couldn't do that' kind of way. With most Bond stunts you feel you could, in that it's part of the escapist appeal. With that leap, I felt, yikes! A stomach in mouth moment unlike any other in the series.
"This is where we leave you Mr Bond."

It was certainly a great sequence, but I'm sure the fact that it is fresh in the public mind contributed to it being selected. My favourites are:

The freefall sequence in MR - great idea and very well filmed. The ending of the sequence is an unfortunate though.

The TSWLM ski jump - another great and iconic stunt.

The crocodile sequence in LALD - the bravado of Ross Kananga is incredible. The outtakes on the DVD never cease to amaze me. Incredible stunt work.

The barrel roll in TMWTGG - another great stunt, unfortunately marred by the sound effects.

I have just noticed that all of these stunts are from the Moore era. Oh well, at least if some of the films were not quite up to par, at least the stunts were top notch.

It is surprising that the winner of the survey was from the most recent 007 film. It is the one most people have seen and what is most fresh on their minds. These poles should ask true Bond fans these questions or at least film buffs and not some average dude who has not even seen half of the films in the franchise. One has to take in to account their ignorance. If an average person reads these poles and sees these recent things voted so high they will see that and then see the older ones hopefully and be surprised as to how much better the older ones are. But hey, it's all about opinions.

It was good to see the ski jump from TSWLM made second place because that one may be my favorite stunt. It had no CGI or any other unnecessary effects. It was just a great skier and a great second unit who captured that jump brilliantly. Watching it for the first time as a kid was breathtaking. You are thinking "I can't believe he jumped" and "How is he going to make it?". Then all of the sudden the British flag emerges on the back of his parachute and John Barry whips out quite abruptly the James Bond Theme just before the woman's hands in the title sequence surrounds Bond and the beautiful piano starts to play the all-time great song "Nobody Does it Better". An awesome and classic scene that will be hard to top.
