Just a couple of questions to the ones who´ve seen it; how does the actual gunbarrel look like? is it the CR one or the original one used from DN till DAD? Does it have the walking dots at the beginning?
The fact that someone says he doesn´t walk too much before shooting is a good sign. Reminds me of Bob Simmons.
I liked the new gunbarrel, it fitted. It's quick, brutal and Craig is full of purpose. Great stuff.
Oh, and can I just add that the sound of seats tipping back on themselves, people rustling up their rubbish and fumbling for jackets loses any impact the gun barrel may have at the very end of the film.
Agreed, it's a waste, it fundamentally is Bond and they've changed it for, from what I can see, no reason whatsoever. You can meddle with forumlas, however the gun barrel is one of the worlds most well known film introductions. Don't shy from what you have when it's so well known.
Of anything this made me the angriest and allows the comparison between Bond and Bourne, you don't know it's a Bond film until the end...
Next they'll move the MGM logo to the end...
I don't hugely disagree- just seems like a way of ripping off the 'Bond.. James Bond' ending of CR. It kind of works, but I didn't see the need. If anything may well have been better at the beginning just to help reintroduce us to Bond- we barely glimpse him before guns are being fired.
There is one major change with this gunbarrel, though. We actually see him walk off, stage left!
(I hope I wasn't imagining it! Don't think I was... )
No, you saw right.
The last lines that Bond and M utter, plus the final shot leading up to the gunbarrel, is a very clear message that traditions will be strong in the next film. Bond has now completed his first missions and events have turned him into the person that we know of old, he has come to terms with everything and those events are well and truly passed. It seems everyone missed this.

Nobody has missed it. I understand why they've put the gunbarrel at the end, I just don't agree with it being there.
It was a good, inoffensive gunbarrel and would've done just as nicely at the start of the film. Craig's walk was a bit too brisk maybe, and the blood a little too cartoony, but it was a good old traditional gubarrel, at least.
I didn't enjoy QoS as much as CR and the gunbarrel placement was just one of many reasons. The lack of Bond theme (especially during the DC dogfight), the horrible title cards and the death of Mathis are just some of the other reasons.
I feel a certain style had gone missing between the two films.
The absence of Q and Moneypenny in CR was understandable - niether were in the book afterall. Their absence here, I guess is justified to a degree too, but I hope to see them return in Bond 23, as long as they're represented as in the books and not cartoon portrayals.
Get the gunbarrel back at the start of Bond 23, reintroduce Q and Moneypenny and get the Bond theme blaring more regularly.
Haha. Indeed. Not since Living Daylights have we had one. If it was at the start of the film I could say that honestly.
LTK - Don't know what was going on with the Bond theme.
GE - Very close to traditional but electronic and synth-based.
TND and WINE - Arnold starts the theme with the wrong cue and makes it sound camp.
DAD - Very close again to a traditional theme but the jungle beat ruins it.
CR - No Bond them and not traditional in appearance
QoS - Traditional in every way, save it's at the bloody end of the film.
I know there wasn't a gunbarrel at the start of QoS but I noticed something during the film which, in my opinion, was a nice 'alternative'.
During the rooftop fight where Bond and the enemy crash through a glass roof. Right at the end of this fight Bond manages to get his gun before his enemy does and shoots him.
The idea of Bond shooting an assassin before he is shot is the core element of the traditional Gunbarrel scene, and also this scene in QoS does show a closeup with Bond staring right at the camera (assassin) after a single shot.
(I admit a LOT of the traditional elements are missing: the actual view down a gunbarrel, the blood, the music...but that's the whole point of the revamp, being that it not completely wholly traditional)
I highly enjoyed the film and in particular that 'gunbarrel' scene.
You're right, Forster has decided to follow Casino Royale by incorporating the "Gunbarrel" into the end of the PTS, in as much as Bond shoots straight into the camera and the frame freezes for a moment. It's a little in-joke and clearly references the traditional Gunbarrel, which is then shown in its original form at the end of the movie before the credits.
I hope they're not starting a "new tradition" of incorporating Gubarrel-esque shots into the PTS; I'd much rather they went back to the good old appetite-whetting Gunbarrel scene which has always heralded so much enjoyment in years gone by.
My guess is that they will, and that the "Bond, James Bond" line at the end of CR and the Gunbarrel at the end of QoS are the two landmarks which Craig's "new" Bond passes on his way to really 'owning' the character and that the next film will be rather more traditional now that Dan has graduated from Bond school.

That's my hope too.
Just one note, though. When Bond shoots up from the rope and into the camera, that's not during the PTS, it's after it.
I'd like to see the QoS gunbarrel again. Once isn't enough.
From memory the white dots go all the way across the screen, rather than opening into the barrel a la Binder. However, I remember the barrel itself being zoomed right in once it comes on screen, making the circumferance of the inner circle prominent. Craig walks about 100mph, turns and shoots, one-handed and aggressively, rather than casually, and then the cartoonish blood falls as quickly as Craig walks to mask the whole screen. The silhoutte of the gunbarrel shrinks to form the 'O' in Of, which in turn belongs to the title card Quantum Of Solace and then the credits roll.
I'm just waiting for someone to put it on You Tube so I can see it again.

Just saw a commercial for QoS. The commercial ends with a quick gunbarrel (It was off white). Is the new gunbarrel still black & white or is it this White one I saw?
Some people would complain even if you hang them with a new rope

Lots of chiefs don't wear feathers of any kind (Police chiefs, fire chiefs, chief master sergeants, chief executive officers, commanders-in-chief, Chief Boy-ar-dee*), and the actual number of them named 'Sitting Bull' is quite small indeed...

Just watched the gunbarrel on youtube....and it was awful, I have yet to see the film as I am beyond broke but this has just angered me, its far too quick, the design is awful, it has nothing on the previous designs, its too blue, the shot isout of sync...I could go on, why oh why did they get rid of Kleinman???
I hope to god this design isnt used in Bond 23, can they please just start making goddamn Bond movies again?????
The gunbarrel is great! Lovely to see DC walk along the screen with the dots etc.
The version on YouTube is clearly from a "pirate" DVD camcorded in a cinema. Anyone got a link/news about where to obtain such a DVD? PM me for obvious reasons!!! :v

I saw it chief. My mistake. Guess the shots in the Bond on Set book weren't for the gunbarrel afterall.
Yep, it's the good old traditional gunbarrel, white dots and all, and DC IS wearing suit & necktie instead of tux.
The only difference I can see is that it is placed after the movie, instead of before it: something I hope will revert to the original format in the next film.

Why does Arnold's gunbarrel fanfare always sound so tinny? Seems to be more shallow little drums than deep booming brass.

I didn't notice that on first viewing. Must check again (as if I wouldn't!).

That's just because the clip is poor quality, obviously it doesn't appear like that in the movie.

The gunbarrel is like the movie , it is good but it could be better !
Like the suit instead of the Tux - like Connery !!
