Ah, this is a thorny issue M5. Because of course Brosnan mowed down loads of Russian soldiers in St Petersburg when really they were only doing their jobs. I guess you could argue the new reality is less pornographic in its approach to violence. Except then again it isn't, because Craig doesn't even bruise his knuckles during his many bust ups. Michael Caine said of Get Carter that it removed the pornography of violence because it shows if you hit someone once, that can be enough.

Very true, and a very good point (even though some of them did seem to make comedy "Aaaah!"s and threw themselves in the air like I did in Primary 7 when playing soldiers )
Gotta go with the panda on this, may not be every Bond fan's fav but this Bond fan is in QOS heaven (a lot of that is about it not being like a more traditional Bond film... feels like those badass 60s Bonds did back in the day, new and fresh and all).

I thought Bond in QOS gets dinged up quite a few times (the knife fight w/Slate is a good example). He just heals really fast lol.

to be fair, although not the same movie, but i was impressed, when bond (DC) leaves the Casino table in CR the time before he's poisoned and goes up to the hotel room to find VL in the cold shower, if you look at his knuckles in that seen they are pretty battered but i don't know about QOS
on the whole though i enjoyed the fact that QoS was a more adult film, in that it didn't waste time explaining how his gadgets worked (I know there was very few but he had the phone, and we didn't need a lecture on how it worked). there was very little time wasted on location change and yes the action sequences were fast paced but that is to give you a more gritty feel that Bond is still raw and not as sophisticated in his modus operandi as he is in later films. as for the execution of the member of SB firstly he didn't kill him, he chucked him off the roof but he was on his feet when shot by Dominic Green's bodyguard, and as far as I understand bond was unaware of his SB status, he just thought it was another quantum goon.

I really liked the story, and the only reason I put in position 5 instead of higher is because of some of the little things that bothered me, real nitpicky crap that really shouldn't matter if it was any movie other than one starring a character named James Bond. Some of it, in retrospect, I can forgive. The editing during the action was a nuissance, but a necessary one. It creates a strong contrast to the preferable solace. I don't know if it was the best way to handle the point, but that's what we now have to live with. I don't think the song used for the titles is that great. In fact, I think it's one of the worst. It fortunately is still much better than what I thought it was going to be. I have comfort though knowing that a return gig for Ms. Keys is probably never going to happen. Let's just hope they don't try any more bright ideas like fetching a polarizing artist to perform the titles. Also, a good artist would know how to make the title "Quantum of Solace" flow well in a song rather than just dropping it and going with something cliché. My biggest forgive is the gunbarrel. No it wasn't at the beginning, and that ****ed me off. But the movie was about Bond getting a grip on himself and coming back to center, thus we are rewarded with the gunbarrel in such a way that tells the audience, "I'm Fine Now."

Cast: With Craig, Dench and Giannini we have three heavy-hitters, so overall good. Script: lacking punch, verve and dialogue. A bit of a let-down since this was one of the best things about CR. Costumes: just OK. Could have done with more memorable evening dresses. Score: OK Plot: a strange combination of too much happening and not enough substance. The Villain Of The Week plot could have been fleshed out more and I can't help thinking EON missed their opportunity at a Bondian The Dark Knight by not going for a meatier, twistier plot that tied more strongly into the Vesper/revenge arc. Action scenes: the close-up hand-to-hand fights were okay, but anything involving planes, boats or automobiles was too choppily-edited and pretty bland for a Bond flic. Title sequence: not bad, but not very memorable either Gunbarrel: feels like a bit of an afterthought to have it at the end Theme song: to think people complained about "You Know My Name". Ah, memories...
