It has always had me slightly perplexed as to why Pushkin's bodyguard had to stomp on that tram in front of everyone and take Kara off and into Pushkin's car.

He could have waited until she was at her apartment.

Maybe he just likes embarrassing her!!

The communist regimes of eastern Europe ruled by fear. In East Germany for example, the Stasi kept tabs on everyone, and you wouldn't know who was an informer.

Grabbing Kara off the tram would have been a typical show of reminding the local populace that they were being watched and to toe the line.
