The character was I think called Eddie Voyle, and I agree it was a superb role. Dalton was charasmatic and evil all at once.

Ahh, Flash Gordon, I was extremely geeked out when that was released in 1980 having been a fan of the b/w serials and seeing this reinterpretation as so counter-Star Wars. For me, though, Dalton's Prince Barin stole the show, and was most memorable for calling Princess Aura, "B*tch!" (quite shocking language back then, btw.) Therefore, when he was announced as Bond (at the time when I began to read the Fleming books, with Bond's closing line in CR still fresh in my mind), my friends could not understand why I was so excited.

A good "what if," ...transplant the 80's Dalton to the present time, making available to him all the innovations in acting and film-making that's taken place up to today (hopefully enough to temper his stage training, which really showed in his Bond portrayal), and if he were inclined to undergo the same physical rigors as Craig, I wonder how he'd fair?

I saw Toy Story 3 and even thought Dalton's voice is not featured in the film much (Mr Pricklepants only appears three times in the whole movie I think.) I still enjoyed hearing him. As for other movies that I have seen him in outside Bond, I liked the following:

The Rocketeer

Cleopatra (1999 tv movie for ABC, were he played Julius Cesar)

Time Share (TV movie that is somewhat corny, but still enjoy bile.)

Hot Fuzz

Also he voices Mr. Pricklepants in the video game based on Toy Story 3, makes me wonder how he would do in a game based on The Living Daylights or an original story based game similar to Everything or Nothing, or Bloodstone.

PS: Also he was a Time Lord in one of the Doctor Who specials, with David Tennent's Dr.

When I first saw Timmy in Hot Fuzz, it freaked me out. I always saw him as the dour James Bond but now to see him as the cheerful manager of a little supermarket and smiling it's just...freaking weird.

I saw Chuck on TV just this evening. Dalton looked like an "unemployed" person in that episode.

I would've voted for Rassilon as well but sadly I felt he was underused in the mansion. He could've just used that hand anytime he wanted. But I am going to vote for his character in Flash Gordon and Hot Fuzz. Two of his best performances outside the Bond franchise, especially the latter. Never thought he would do a film like that.

I think he'd have been excellent as Bond in CR...if they could have caught him in his thirties. He really was ahead of his time B-)

Tim Dalton's motion picture debut as the young Philip II of France in 1968's The Lion in Winter, sticks out in my memory. His potrayal of the bitter Philip in what was a fairly small role in a film surrounded by titans like Katherine Hepburn, Peter O'Toole and Anthony Hopkins, was memorable to say the least. Aside from Bond, Philip will always be my favorite Dalton role.

But might I suggest too, daltons Prince Rupert in Cromwell?....

Rupert, King Charles senior general and in charge of the cavalry at Naseby, was impetuous and stupid - dalton plays the role to the hilt .. Literally .
Surrounded by giants like Richard harris Alec guineas and Robert morley, dalton looks the part.
The film also includes bondies like charles gray.

Mmmm, I'm afraid I don't agree with her - his stint (I can only call it that

) ) in DAD killed him as a serious actor for me - although he was excellent in Vexed - if your wife hasn't seen it (it's a BBC 2 comedy) then she might well like it.

However, be warned, not a pair of jodhpurs in sight

Obviously my list of favourite Dalton roles would be endless because I will literally watch anything he is in !! ( which also means I have sat through a lot of cr@p over the years

My favourites though is The Rocketeer .... Physically he was at his prime, he is very funny and he was a villain !! Whats not to love :x

You have no idea how many female friends fo mine vote Philip II as their favorite Dalton role (even more than Jane Eyre). Every member of the TLIW cast really holds their own against O'Toole and Hepburn (except for Jane Merrow, who's better in other 60's spy shows of the period). TLIW was Anthony Hopkins and Dalton's film debut.

I'd also like to volunteer the role he played in Werewolf Concerto, an episode in some 80s horror TV series whose name I can't remember.

Random trivia fact: Philip II in the original stage production was played by Christopher Walken!
