what is Quantum

I am a newbie to this forum, so whip me and beat me if this is to simple of a question, just dont sit me in a chair with no seat. What is the "Quantum" I guess from reading the posts I need to go revisit Casino Royale, I dont remember the girlfriend betrayal.

A modern version of SPECTRE -- a worldwide criminal organization that operates from the shadows, perhaps more so than any "legitimate" espionage group. No mention was made of Quantum in Casino Royale, but continuity is established with characters like Mr. White and Vesper's boyfriend. While one could argue it's suggested at the end of Quantum that Bond will battle Quantum again in the future, that is just speculation at this point.

Quantum is the organisation that Green and Mr White are a part of. All those people listening-in at the Opera are part of Quantum too.

It's a giant organisation of masterminds, but all of them have high-level connections and legitamate businesses in order to make it even harder to be tracked down.

Like somebody has already said, it's a modern day version of SPECTRE (assuming you've seen the older Bond films).

I think it's highly debatable if Quantum will appear again. On one hand, it echoes SPECTRE, whilst on the other hand, the whole Vesper business has been cleared up.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Of course it's possible that Eon will just leave such an organization in place, operating without compunction, after making it clear that they can affect regime change around the globe---or kill M :v ---whenever they want, whilst Bond does other things. But I doubt it.

I've said it many times, but if they stick with the colour theme (Green, Mr White) then it could quite easily become a game of Bond-ish Cluedo.

Quantum are vague - because they're a shadowy organisation or because the writers haven't actually figured out their point or purpose, who's to say. It doesn't seem to be to kill anyone in itself, it's all about money. It doesn't quite have an ideological bent, though neither did Spectre really. But it doesn't come straight out and blackmail governments preferring to lurk in the shadows making money.
