Its basically gratitude for all the advice that she gives him at the end of CR about Vesper's death.

In Casino Royale, she also said that Vesper must have known she was going to her death when meeting with Mr. White, that she must have known Bond was Bond, and that she must have made a deal to spare Bond's life, so there various points from that film alone Bond could have been referring to. It could have connected to the previous film as well as to her line in this one about "we never really know anyone." There are enough script vagueness to make several connections.

Bond blames Vesper at the end of Casino Royale, "That bitch is dead". M points out to Bond that what Vesper did was to sacfirice herself for Bond.

Having found out about Vesper's 'boyfriend' and how he's pulling the same trick on the Canadian woman, Bond admits that M was right about Vesper.

    :)

Its worth noting as well, that there is a connection to Mathias in this scene too. - He tells Bond the last time we see him to forgive Vesper, he feels she did indeed love Bond, and Bond needs to forgive himself as well for what happened to her. Again echoing what M said at the end of CR, noting that Vesper knew Bond would not stop till he found out who it was that forced her to betray him. - As we learn, Quantum.

This is the "Oh wow!" scene for me in this film, you can see its played by talented, experienced stage actors who inderstand its significance, here and to the previous film.
This is Thunderbird 2, how can I be of assistance?
