Roger Moore in The Cannonball Run

In case you did not see the film, which is about a cross-country automobile race from Connecticut to California, Roger Moore makes an appearance driving an Aston Martin with a woman, and even using an oil slick and smoke to lose pursuing police.

Even though he is cast as Seymour Goldfarb, Jr., when he registers for the race he actually registers as "Roger Moore". I wonder why?

Because Seymour thinks he is Moore; that's the whole joke of Moore's appearance.

Because Seymour thinks he is Moore; that's the whole joke of Moore's appearance.

Oh... yeah I've seen the movie several times but I never got that part.

In his autobiograpy, Sir Roger says the making of the movie was quite fun, but he mostly enjoyed the paycheck. Well, at least he's honest about it

That's a great flick; the end of an era, really---kind of the last gasp of the old-style, All-Star farce.

I haven't seen it in decades; really need to pick it up.

Great movie it was, but whatever you do *DO NOT* go near the sequel, said to be one of the worst movies ever made. If you have Netflix it is available on Instant Queue, which is where I saw it. The first parts may be good but the rest will make you feel awkward just for watching.

Cannonball Run was a great comedy, I believe it is based on a previous 1976 film, also quite good, called the Gumball Rally, which had the same premise. I can say I enjoyed them both.
