Why does the movie called Quantum?

I know bond seeks solace from the true source of evil.

The title comes from an Ian Fleming short story, originally published in the FYEO anthology. I'm afraid my French (I take it that's your first language?) isn't good enough to translate it, but another word for "quantum" might be "amount" if that's any help.

according to The American Heritage Dictionary of The English Language(1969 Ed.,Houghton Mifflin Company, pubs.),the word "quantum" is defined thusly:

1)The quantity or amount of something.

    2)A specified portion of something.

3)Something that may be counted or measured.

    "Solace" is defined this way:

    1)Comfort in sorrow,misfortune or distress;consolation.

2)That which furnishes comfort or consolation.

    3)To comfort,cheer or console.

Accordingly, the title Quantum of Solace can be interpretated as meaning Measure of Consolation. The movie is a direct sequel to Casino Royale,in which 007 felt he'd been betrayed by Vesper Lynd--the woman he loved. However, by the end of Quantum of Solace,Bond's found a form of consolation and is at peace with himself and the memories he holds of Vesper. At least, that's my definition. :)

That the Bad Guys call their evil organization QUANTUM can be seen as an intentional coincidence, giving the film's title a double meaning--making what might at first glance seem romantic, equally ironic. After all,QUANTUM's not out to comfort anyone. Again, that's just my interpretation.;)

Hopefully some of this is helpful.
