Interest Thread...OHMSS Anorak

This is JUST an interest thread. After requesting if BOGNER was interested in creating a 40th Anniversary OHMSS Anorak like the one seen in the link below, I wanted to take a pulse check on who might be interested in one of these if we can have them made. I have no idea of price yet, but obviously the final piece would be a close replication and would be made in sizes Small through Extra Large. Again, if you are interested a "Interested" is all that is needed.

It's a ventile smock if that helps. It was an off the peg Swazi Tahr design which is now made in Gore-Tex rather than ventile. It's quite a well known military garment and should be easy to replicate. Ventile is a must though as it is a superior outdoor mil-spec material.

Somewhat interested, however I would much rather have the Bogner powder blue ski suit that Bond uses for his escape from Piz Gloria. I think L.L. Bean used to sell a close version to the blue Anorak. They may still carry it.

Is the ventile military smock still available? Could make this project short and sweet...:)

I'm interested. I happen to live in the great white north so this type of jacket would actually see some action for 4 or 5 months out of the year.

    brilliant idea, Mantis!

I'm in for one regardless, what it costs and I promise to order one in my size ;)

if you need someone in Germany to keep touch with Bogner, fell free to mention me.

Agreed, its ventile, but i think it may be a Navy issue one from the 60's. I have seen a pair of matching Naval-issue high-bib trousers recently, but not the smock. Dont think its a Swazi, they have only been going since around 1990-ish.

I have been looking for this particular outfit for some time.. a replica / something similar ... I wanted one for a ski-ing holiday that I was planning with some friends this year / next .. and after use display it as a replica outfit from OHMSS. with the Sterling Machine Gun...

on the sideshow figure of Lazenby it feels and looks like an anorak material...and the outfit is in 2 pieces.

however in the film if looks like an all in one suit.. that Bond and Draco.. wear.... all most like overalls... I am not saying it was, just looked like an all in one overall design... and the material looks like a wool / cotton material - sweater top material.... rather than an anorak .. pvc taxture...

I remember seeing an old WWII commando film were they wore the same kind of snow suits.. some guys wore white ones.. and other guys wore dark blue ones.. I'll need to try and find out what film it was.. I am sure David Niven was in it..

also while we are on the subject of outfits.. does anyone have any ideas as to what kind / style of outfit.. Scaramanga is wearing in the Pre Titles .. of TMWTGG ? any suggestions the dark blue .. track suit.. type all in one zipper

    Likely these were windproof suits:

"These were produced from light-weight wind-proofed cotton. They were intended to be worn during periods of cold weather where there was no snow on the ground. Teir purpose was to prevent the warm air next to the body from being blown away by strong gusts of wind. They also added to the warming effect created by wearing multiple layers of clothing, even though they were not very heavy."

cool nice bit of info there.... thanks...

I am fairly certain David .. you would be able to obtain a similar .. if not the same style.. of dark blue smock .. worn by Bond in OHMSS...

I know that the smock is the top part .. so whats the bottom torusers just weather trousers of the same material...

thats what made me think it was an all in one outfit...

I WOULD BE INTERESTED IN ONE...

I think it is a cotton garberdine windproof smock and trousers. A two part suit used for mountaineering in the main.

I think the best bet would be to obatin an original .. because I dont think it would be an imposible.. find....

and get an outfit maker to replicate it and produce a LTD run of replicas...
  • Mister WhiteMister White The NetherlandsPosts: 814MI6 Agent
An original windproof smock or one that was specifically used on OHMSS?

no i think finding an original OHMSS screen used smock would be an almost imposible task.. as anything from that film seems to be even more rare than any costume / prop of the earlier Bond films than OHMSS..

I meant obtaining the same type / colour style.. era of smock .. the same as the film used ones..

I doubt they were made by the costume department .. they were likely hired / bought in for the film... and no doubt used of films after OHMSS... of that era..

so i think they will exist as available clothing at the time possibly... for the specialist mountain climber or .. special forces / commandos..

A vintage military dealer / collector may be the best type of person to contact regarding finding out more about this particular outfit..

    Guys,

The British military windproof smocks were a very good piece of kit.. There were many variants for all theatres inc the desert. In fact the UK SF in Iraq used vintage WW2 Desert windproofs see Bravo Two Zero etc for pics. They were often sent for conversion to zips or dyed or waterproofed for boat work. They have four front pockets ans are generally made in fine cotton.
    After watching the movie I would say 007 wears a civvy climbing/skiing smock...-{

As this is long dead, maybe time to bring it up again:

If someone is looking for a modern alternative of this, try the Bergans Stranda in color dusty blue/dull orange.
    I saved me one yesterday.

not sure, if that color combo would have been better:

I saw an anorak that was almost identical to the one in OHMSS in The Gap of all places - but that was ten years ago :-(

Every detail was exactly the same, from the indigo colour (not navy) to the lack of zipper and the slight cowl neck. The only differences were that this one fit a little closer to the body, and it had one long pocket across the upper chest instead of two.

I immediately thought of OHMSS when I saw it, but as it wasn't my style I didn't buy it (although I tried it on). I thought better of it a few days later and went back but they were sold out. They brought anoraks back in later but they were a completely different style and didn't have the distinctive OHMSS look anymore (for example, they had contrasting zippers down the throat to the middle of the anorak.

One of the few regrets I have about not buying a piece of clothing...
