No this is not a thread devoted to the social life of Dan Same. There's a new documentary called Not Quite Hollywood released this week about some of fantastic Australian genre movies made in the 70's and 80's. George Lazenby gives an interview about The Man From Hong Kong in which he explains how the director set him on fire. Quentin Tarantino also gives his tuppence worth. I'm a huge admirer of some of these movies and can't wait to see this documentary. It looks hilarious. Hopefully there will be clips from Nicole Kidman's only martial arts movie Nightmasters. The trailer is on Youtube. I'd provide links, but the content is adult, so find it yourselves.

Actually you'll be shocked at just how much it resembles my social life. :v )

The doco was released in Australia a year ago. I haven't seen it, but it looks fantastic.

It's on at the ICA in London, Mark Kemode was favourably reviewing it on The Culture Show though it did give the impression all the films are Mad Max/Wacky Races type stuff!

DVD is released pretty soon as well. Think it's out by the end of this month.

One mad film I enjoyed was STONE.

A biker flick, ala, well, Mad Max.

It was released in...guess what, early 70s. Features a couple of actors who later appeared in Mad Max. Pretty interesting watching Aussies on Yamahas instead of what I'm used to, California Harley Davidsons!

The Man From Hong Kong is still in my DVD collection, oh boy! Any film where George Lazenby beats up his karate opponents, then remarks to a buxon young girl "now for the next round" only to have her quivver in delight, is gold, pure Aussie gold.
