Posting web links

Okay, dumb question. When I post links here, they show up all nice and in blue so you can click on them.

When I do it on imdb, it doesn't show up like that, you have to copy and paste into the website. What gives?

Every website is different and the software used for posting messages varies from site to site.

Some sites (like AJB) let you post active links and even pictures in your messages. Others do not allow that type of content either because the software they're using simply doesn't support it or because they've disabled the feature as it doesn't meet with their editorial practices (they may not want a live, clickable link to an adult site on their boards for example).

Nary fluff, however there are blue hyperlinks - is that it? - on imdb, so how do I get them? ?:)

That explains it, NP. Posting that link to S & M Worldwide continues to haunt you...

OK NP, I checked the IMDB page to see how their HTML for embedding links and such works. Check out this page for detailed instructions on how their board works. As I mentioned, every board is a little different but this should tell you what you need to know:

    http://www.imdb.com/help/boards/markup

So to embed the AJB website for example you'd type this (omit all the spaces, I just put them in so the entire text would so up and the board software wouldn't parse the link):

    [ url ] http://www.ajb007.co.uk [ /url ]

Links do not have to be blue, they can be any colour they like to be. Just change a line in the code of the stylesheet or page.

I guess SiCo chose to have blue because it stands out from the black ?

I have black links on my site.

I think I am rambling on about the right thing :s

I know what you mean about IMDB, they do have an option I'm sure somewhere that enables you to "switch on or off" hypertext text.

The problem with IMB is that as in your case the links are not "active" you have to copy and paste the link into your browser.

AJB's links are automatically enabled I think so that's why there is a difference in this scenario.

    Hope that helps!
