Some finales tedious?

I was wondering if anybody else felt that in some Bonds that once 007 gets to the lair and now has to get the villian, or blow the place up that it becomes tedious or it just feels like there isnt anything left to watch that adds to the experience?

The parts of Bond movies I enjoy the most are usually all before the finale.

Example: Submarine scene in TWINE, YOLT finale, DAF oil rig, FYEO fight (after he climbs to St Cyrils, a brilliant part), AVTAK pretty much after Town Hall, TLD at Whittakers, GE, TND, and DAD, and possibly QoS on DVD.

Brilliant Ending: OHMSS, MR (the globe chase), CR.
1. TWINE 2. FYEO 3. MR 4. TLD 5. TSWLM 6. OHMSS 7. DN 8. OP 9. AVTAK 10. TMWTGG 11. QoS 12. GE 13. CR 14. TB 15. FRWL 16. TND 17. LTK 18. GF 19. SF 20. LaLD 21. YOLT 22. NTTD 23. DAD 24. DAF. 25. SP

It's a very interesting point that you are raising here heartbroken_mr_drax! {[]

I must admit that I sometimes feel like turning off the film that I am watching at those points. So I certainly feel that way as well.

It's sort of like: ok, we've had the story, this bit is actually an extention of the end credits.

Don't agree with all the examples you mention, but with most of them though. For instance, there are a few interesting scenes on the oilrig before it gets really tedious. I particularily like Blofeld playing the marching music tape with Bond standing there in a ruined suit, and the attempt Tiffany Chase makes to hide the tape in her bikini. But admittedly, it does get tedious afer that. :v

Yeah I agree with those choices. Of course, the sinking of Atlanta is great, but it does go on a bit. Necessary at the time though.

As for DAD, really a lot of time is spent at the Ice Palace, so that's maybe half the film gone!

I've noticed this as well. Its almost as if there has been a fantastic PTS, a great build up with some really good stunts and set pieces and they can't think how to top all of this by the time they get to the end. I particuliarly noticed it in the Brosnan movies which I love.

I think the first Bond movie to have a tedious finale was DAF. Mind you a lot of what came before the finale was tedious as well. The battle on the oil rig seemed to lack any suspense and excitement.

The there was TMWTGG where the 'duel of titans' between Bond and Scaramange had all the excitement of a wet firework, and the final fight with Nic Nac was just embarassing.

Not sure what to class as the finale on OP. The assault by OPs girls on Khan's monsoon palace was tedious, but the fight with Gobinda on the outside of the plane was anything but.

TND had been realy exciting until Bond and Wai Lin board the stealth boat. What should hve been the best bit turned into something more like a Steven Seagal movie. The much anticipated fight between Bond and Stamper was a non-event. Could have been another Bond Vs. Grant.

TWINE suffered in the same way. The final fight between Bond and Reynard had the potential to be great. Could have been another Bond Vs. Oddjob but they seem to forget that Reynard couldn't feel pain.

The less said about QOS the better. Bond vs. Greene and Elvis. The two of them combined couldn't have beaten up Winnie the Pooh.

Well at least we can't (or, rather, oughtn't) complain too much about the finale going on and on, or being excessively tedious ;) Like the film itself, the finale is over in the blink of an eye for me.

I rather enjoyed the Bond vs Greene conflict; somewhat more riveting than Bond vs Dr. No over some bubbling water, IMO.

I tend to enjoy the finales, actually---whether they're big and overblown, or just a bit of fisticuffs in a tight room.

Agree with almost everything that has been said. With a few notable exceptions finales seem to be problematic and tend towards anti climax. One of the most dissapointing for me is the final confrontation with Goldfinger, coming after the superb scene with Oddjob it feels lame. I have very few niggles with CR, but the collapsing building piece seemed a bit pointless. I am really struggling to come up with a real corker, and think that the fight in GE is about the best.

I wonder if a way out is to have a reverse PTS. What I mean is in effect a cliff hanger trailer for the next movie, real edge of seat stuff with no real plot deatails. This would require Eon to be much further ahead in planning movies (a good thing in my book) and despite the fact that Bond is all they do they seem to struggle to produce a film every three years, with scripts finalised, casting and directors all left late in the day...

    LALD hadn't much of a climax and was all the better for it. -{
