Casino Royale: Bond 21 or a reboot?

Even though everyone considers Casino Royale to be the twenty-first Bond film I think it's actually a reboot like Batman Begins and not a prequel. Which means Casino Royale is actually the new Bond number 1 and Quantum of Solace is the new Bond number 2. And that means the next Bond film is gonna be a threequel which is bad because threequels have a tendency to suck.

It is the same series but just a different continuity.

I like to have CR (and soon QOS) next to all the previous Bond films B-)

It IS a reboot, intentionally. Its established in dialogue by Dryden (indirectly) as well as M later on that Bond has just been promoted to 00 status. Although part of the overall Bond franchise, Casino Royale marks a new start, stepping away from establisahed history from the Connery - Brosnan era, in exactly the same way as Batman Begins. - I suspect the new Star Trek flick will be the same in that respect.

I have the box-set of films so I do keep CR and soon QOS apart.Thinking of them as a sort of "Classic Bond" and "New Bond" collections.
But I've got a really good feeling about the next Bond film,They've tried some things out,Hopefully listened to some of the feedback and feel the next Bond will not divide the fans as much.

I like the comparison to Batman Begins - the only Batman film I really enjoyed. My wife kind of refers to the Bonds now as the old ones and the new ones. The new ones start at Craig and Casino Royale. I feel we are at the beginning now, and I like how the two films have been done. I think we will see a little more sophistication with Craig in the next film, a little more polished around the edges. Doesn't matter if they don't go that way - he's a modern Bond for today and his replacement will no doubt take Bond into another direction later on.
Personally I think this re-boot or whatever it is called was needed. I have watched a few of the classics since Casino Royale and have found it hard to get into them.

I consider the Craig films a re-boot as well. An appropriate word for them as they strive to get back to the initial conception of 007.

Casino Royale was a funeral. James Bond is dead. He was killed by a combination of severe psychoanalysis and overwhelming political correctness.

No Roger Moore killed James Bond and Daniel Craig beathed new life into him.
