The Conflicker C virus, like the previous virus's are unknown exactly what they do or when they will impact your system. It was "released" that the attack will be made on April 1st (fools day), and 50,000 RANDOM computers each day, infected with the virus will be targets.

Experts say it is the worst infection since the SQL Slammer. Estimates of the number of computers infected range from almost 9 million PCs to 15 million computers.

How do I protect myself from this virus?

Its easy. Turn off your computer on April 1st and April 2nd. Update your Virus Scanner. Disconnect all internet modems in the house. And hope for the best.

Here are some videos to watch to give you tips on how to protect your computer!

Cheers for that link 8420. I wouldn't lose any sleep over this virus. Sky News quote an expert who says it is likely to come and go without anybody noticing. Might be worth backing up any files you need just in case.

I'm actually not too worried about this. Apparently, there was enough warning that most ISPs have been able to block it, and if you have Windows--like I do--you should be covered if you received update #KB958644. Then again, if you don't hear from me tomorrow, well. . .

By the way, if you know German then you know "fick" is not exactly a polite word. I wonder if there's some significance in the name Conficker!

well, there is no such word in german like "Conficker".

Hardyboy, I am however impressed by your german language skills :v

P.S. The word "conficker" is meant as an anagram to "Trafficconverter", the url, which blowed it out at first.

Oddly enough, this just recently came up in my International Marketing class as the reason why Vicks Corporation sells under the name 'Wicks' in Germany...otherwise they would be offering a whole new alternative to cold remedies :o

LOL Wicks can be used in 2 directions:
    1. to the F word or
    2. you replace the k with an h or the ck by x if you left school very early... which leads to another bad word in german.

Of course, the German word for fox--fuchs--is pronounced and spelled pretty darn close to some other English word. . .and there was a lot of giggling in my German class when we conjugated the verb "fahren" and got to third person: "Er fahrt."

Anyhoo, both my work and home computer checked out OK. I heard one way to tell if you have the confounded Conficker is to go to a site like Norton or another one that offers security systems--if you can't get to the site it's been blocked by the worm. I've also heard that Conficker might not in fact be activated for another two weeks, so we might not be out of the woods yet!

I had heard on the radio that today was the day that the virus 'asks for it's orders' so to speak, and will continue to do so until it receives instructions. But the virus creator(s) may be laying low until the heat wears off. That being said, Conficker may be a thorn in everyone's sides for some time.
