Vesper saved Bond? Mr. White would have had Bond?

Question from Casino Royale:
Why is it interpreted that Vesper made a deal and saved Bond's life by turning in the money?
During the torture scene, without Bond's password there's no money.
And Quantum was probably gonna kill Vesper in Venice, and could very well kill Bond afterwards.

Now in Quantum of Solace:
Why did Mr. White say had Vesper not committed suicide, they would have had Bond?
Because they could have used her as bait?

First I think that White was planning on killing Bond at the torture scene thinking "hes gone throught all this and not given it to us, what more could i do." So Vesper made a deal that if they let Bond go she would arrange for the money to be returned. Yes they could have killed Bond and Vesper in Venice, but she might have thought that if they disappeared away from MI6 that Quantum may just let them off the hook.

When White says they'd have had bond in QOS, I took it that the organisation had considered kidnapping her (even for real) and manipulating Bond. Or perhaps he was just taunting him that the love of his life just died.

I may be completely offbase here but I interpreted Mr. White saying they thought they could also have Bond meaning White thought they (QUANTUM) could convince Bond to work for them.

The first time I saw the movie, I didn't understand that comment either. After I thought about it for a bit, I think that Mr. White meant that Quantum could have used Vesper to manipulate Bond, in the same way that they manipulated Vesper by using her boyfriend.

That's exactly the way I saw it too.

With their hold on Vesper they would have been able to control Bond. He had already resigned from MI6 for her, so it doesn't seem unreasonable that he would do a lot of other things for her as well....

Yes it seems that Quantum, like to manipulate people to get what they want, hence why they are so difficult to track and why MI6 have no intel on them.

Vespers Boyfriend was used to manipulate Vesper to be a double agent and he was playing that Canadian agent. My guess it that they would have got the money off Vesper and then used her against Bond.
